It's no secret that most of us get flabbier the older we get, and it's no surprise that the biggest spike in weight happens in the early stages of parenthood. Mark Macdonald knows the struggle himself, having gained thirty-five pounds after the birth of his son. It happened to him even as a nutritionist and former fitness model, so he knew he wasn't alone in the struggle. Along with his wife, Abbi, Mark has created this proven eight-week program specifically geared toward parents to help them shed the weight, discover new amounts of energy, and most importantly, create new sustainable habits to keep it from coming back.

R308 Discovery Miles 3 080 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

A dead man is discovered in his apartment, surrounded by notes, books, and other assorted fragments of his life. A distant acquaintance is called in to clean up the mess, clear out the space, and try to make sense of the suicide, which leads to his own world being turned upside down. As he sifts through the evidence of his friend's life and death, the things he once thought of as certain cannot now be taken for granted, subsumed by the anonymous urban chaos of Vancouver's West End, a world populated by voyeurs, exhibitionists, and lonely outcasts looking for a way out, and a way in.

Elegantly written and full of sharp bursts of wit, Flat explores how we relate -- and don't relate -- to one another, amid an unforgiving concrete landscape that holds more secrets than it can bear

The Mexican revolution of 1910-1920 gave rise to an artistic explosion that was felt most profoundly in printmaking. The left-wing government viewed art as an important vehicle for education and the promotion of revolutionary values. It established a program to cover the walls of public buildings with murals and set up numerous workshops to produce prints for wide distribution. By the 1930s, Mexico was attracting socially committed artists from all over the American continent and beyond, ready to do battle for a new aesthetic as well as a new political order. Diego Rivera, a key figure in the art of revolution, became one of the most celebrated artists in the world.

Starting with works by Jose Guadalupe Posada, who was adopted by the revolutionaries as the archetypal printmaker for the people, Revolution on Paper features prints by thirty-five artists, including the "Three Greats" of Mexican art of the period--Rivera, Jose Clemente Orozco, and David Alfaro Siqueiros. The selection includes not only single-sheet artists' prints, but also posters addressing social and political issues, and illustrated books on many different subjects. Images of the revolutionary hero Emiliano Zapata, scenes of poverty, hunger, and oppression, and posters protesting against fascism and the war in Europe contrast with representations of Mexican history and idealized rural life that express what was regarded as typically "Mexican." Introductory essays by Dawn Ades and Alison McClean set Mexican printmaking in its artistic and political context. Concise biographies of the artists, a chronology, and a glossary of printmaking terms complete the book.

Linking Development to Transformational Leadership (Paperback): Kirsty Spence, Mark McDonald Linking Development to Transformational Leadership (Paperback)
Kirsty Spence, Mark McDonald
R1,898 Discovery Miles 18 980 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Leadership development facilitators and executive coaches address leaders' developmental needs to better perform at the executive level. In developmental programs for example, facilitators teach with the expectation that leaders will adopt a transformational leadership (TL) mindset within the program to later enact TL behaviours within their home organizational environment. This is a short-term solution when addressing leadership needs. A deeper understanding of one's level of personal development is instead necessary to unlock potential TL abilities. In this book, four leaders are extensively studied to determine the relationship between their level of personal ego development and TL effectiveness. Even while the results yield significantly different "snapshots" of leadership behaviours, these leaders' profiles provide a platform from which to further explore the complexities of TL theory and help us to understand how one's TL effectiveness may or may not be related to one's ego development. This book is addressed to leadership consultants or coaches of both profit and non-profit organizations interested in leadership development topics. This book is also addressed to leadership researchers who are interested in exploring leadership from both subjective and objective paradigms.

The Impact of Experience-based Learning on Students' Emotional Competency (Paperback): Beth Jowdy, Mark McDonald The Impact of Experience-based Learning on Students' Emotional Competency (Paperback)
Beth Jowdy, Mark McDonald
R1,888 Discovery Miles 18 880 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

The use of experiential activities and reflection as methods to enhance social and emotional learning is commonly accepted in higher education. It is believed that through experience-based courses students deepen and possibly alter presently held assumptions when classroom experiences allow students to practice skills and reflect on behaviors that simulate "real-world" situations. However, how is it that experience-based courses develop the emotional competencies necessary for students to effectively manage themselves and others in the workplace and in life? This study examines the impact of a sport event management course on students' emotional competency. Specifically, this study answers the question: Can a semester-long experience-based course increase students' emotional competency when students are not introduced to emotional intelligence theory. The book is addressed to faculty and academic administrators in higher education. Since a popular misconception associated with experiential learning is that the outcomes are subjective and difficult to measure, the results of this study will also be of interest to individuals involved with any form of experiential education.

R1,325 Discovery Miles 13 250 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The first comprehensive account in English of Renaissance Spain's preeminent sculptor Alonso Berruguete (c. 1488-1561) revolutionized the arts of Renaissance Spain with a dramatic style of sculpture that reflected the decade or more he had spent in Italy while young. Trained as a painter, he traveled to Italy around 1506, where he interacted with Michelangelo and other leading artists. In 1518, he returned to Spain and was appointed court painter to the new king, Charles I. Eventually, he made his way to Valladolid, where he shifted his focus to sculpture, opening a large workshop that produced breathtaking multistory altarpieces (retablos) decorated with sculptures in painted wood. This handsomely illustrated catalogue is the first in English to treat Berruguete's art and career comprehensively. It follows his career from his beginnings in Castile to his final years in Toledo, where he produced his last great work, the marble tomb of Cardinal Juan de Tavera. Enriching the chronological narrative are discussions of important aspects of Berruguete's life and practice: his complicated relationship with social status and wealth; his activity as a draftsman and use of prints; how he worked with his many assistants to create his wood sculptures; and his legacy as an artist.
