This textbook offers a systematic introduction to eschatology. The first part introduces the historical approaches to eschatology. The second part concerns the reasons for eschatological statements in light of important aspects of the doctrine of God and Christ. The third part is devoted to different concepts of the relationship between eternity and time, space and infinitude as well as the question of what is good, true and beautiful. Using a thematic structure, the multiple different approaches and concepts of modern eschatology are clearly presented, and illuminated by the perspective of the classical teachings on the Last Things; which are ultimately brought together in a synthesis. This is an important contribution to a crucial part of the study of systematic theology.

Aus der Perspektive von Naturwissenschaft, Philosophie und Theologie untersucht dieser Band die Frage, wie es mit der evolutionaren Herkunft des Menschen steht, und wie mit seinem Verhaltnis zu seinen nachsten Verwandten, den grossen Affen. Was ist von der Tierrechtsbewegung zu halten, wie sieht das Alte Testament die Beziehung von Mensch und Tier, wie sehen die theologischen Schlusse dazu aus? Der Inhalt beruht auf den Vortragen der Jahrestagung 2016 der Karl-Heim-Gesellschaft und wurde durch weitere Beitrage erganzt.

Das Jahrbuch der Karl-Heim-Gesellschaft dient der Foerderung des interdisziplinaren Gesprachs zwischen christlicher Theologie und den Wissenschaften. Es setzt, in der Gegenwart verantwortet, das Erbe Karl Heims fort. Heim (1874-1958) pragte als Theologe an den Universitaten Halle, Munster und seit 1920 in Tubingen sowie von 1920 bis 1948 als Fruhprediger an der Tubinger Stiftskirche Generationen von Pfarrern. Unter seinen Zuhoerern befanden sich auch viele Naturwissenschaftler, denn Heim konnte einerseits naturwissenschaftliche Sachverhalte zutreffend elementarisieren und andererseits den christlichen Glauben mit diesen Ergebnissen in einen fruchtbaren Dialog bringen. Der 28. Jahrgang dokumentiert die Jubilaumstagung 40 Jahre Karl-Heim-Gesellschaft und enthalt weitere Beitrage zum Thema "Braucht Glauben Wissen?". Mit diesem Jahrbuch wird die bleibende Bedeutung der Theologie Karl Heims fur eine dialogfahige Theologie im 21. Jahrhundert deutlich. Volume 28 of the Yearbook of the German Karl Heim Society presents a variety of articles. Most of them are devoted to the relationship between belief and knowledge. The authors want to show the enduring significance of Karl Heim's insistence on a dialogue between theology and the natural sciences, and to further the intention of the Karl Heim Society to present a biblical Christian orientation in a world shaped by technology and the natural sciences. Though the contributions are in German, an extensive summary in English is appended to each of them.

Und was bedeutet die digitalisierte Welt fur unser Bild vom Menschen? Die Beitrage dieses Jahrbuches dokumentieren die Jahrestagung 2017 der Karl-Heim-Gesellschaft zum Thema "Der digitalisierte Mensch, die mediale Welt und die reformatorische Freiheit". Digitale Lebenswelten und ihr Realitatsverstandnis kommen in Diskurs mit reformatorisch-theologischen Grundbegriffen wie "Freiheit", "Menschenbild", "Selbst- und Wirklichkeitsverstandnis", so dass ihre "Verheissung", aber auch ihre Ambivalenz zur Sprache kommen.

This volume contains the results of research into the dialogue between theology and biology, particularly neuroscience and evolutionary theory. With regard to neuroscience, the representational paradigm is abandoned in favor of the ecological brain theory, which understands the brain as an organ of resonance between the living body and its surrounding environment. In relation to theological epistemology, this account not only leads to fruitful convergences, but also shows that revelation, as perception of Gods triune presence in creation, has to be understood as a resonating and non extra-ordinary or general kind of perception, instead of being a special interpretation of experiences that are beyond the ordinary. With regard to the theory of evolution, the Neodarwinian paradigm is expanded with the help of the theory of niche-construction, in which the relationship between organisms and their environment is understood to be reciprocally resonating. This new and emerging paradigm in biology fits to a relational-narrative theological ontology, in which the relationship between the life of the triune God and creation can be modeled on basis of the key metaphor of niche construction understood as a reciprocally resonating dramatic coherence. Theologically, Markus Muhling presents a theory of revelation as perception and a relational-narrative ontology based on the concept of dramatic coherence, in which the triune life is understood not as an exception to ontology, but as the decisive condition of its possibility. For neuroscience and evolutionary theory it provides the insight that taking the concepts of internally related external relata and a phenomenological approach into account leads to new horizons for solving those problems seen in certain older paradigms as posing irreconcilable contradictions. Muhling also argues that a dialogue between theology and the natural sciences in order to be fruitful must be maintained in relative dependence and independence, that any such dialogue must take philosophical considerations into account, and that it is decisive for each of the dialogue partners to speak on behalf of their proper and particular areas of research. The proposed results also reflect the authors participation in the dialogue between leading theologians and scientists at the Center of Theological Inquiry, Princeton (NJ) on Evolution and Human Nature in 2013.

Ausdrucke wie "mit Leib und Seele" und Begriffe wie "Psychologie" und "Seelsorge" belegen, dass der Terminus "Seele" aus unserer Sprache nicht wegzudenken ist. Gleichzeitig scheint es sich um ein Relikt zu handeln, verzichten doch gerade die Wissenschaften auf den Gegenstand der "Seele". Aus den Perspektiven von Physik, Psychologie, Philosophie und Theologie erklart der Band diese Diastase und fragt nach der Phanomenalitat der "Seele". Er zeigt, dass die Rede von der Seele zwar durch Befreiung von dualistischen Klangen reformbedurftig, aber unverzichtbar ist, will man der Phanomenalitat menschlichen Werdens gerecht werden. Der Band beruht auf einer erweiterten Diskussion der Jahrestagung 2015 der Karl-Heim-Gesellschaft.

The theme of this volume is the question of value-perception. It is discussed from different philosophical, psychiatric, theological, and anthropological perspectives. The thesis that unites all the papers is the recognition that we live in a relational, dynamic world, in which we primarily perceive, and that to dissolve values from facts is fundamentally misleading, both in theory as in life. The contributions are the outcome of an energetic conference in 2016 where the problems at stake were rigorously discussed. The results are presented here, and they have an explicit order and are strictly related. It opens with basic questions and observations, then critical opinions and objections come into play, after which the outline of a larger theory of value perception is presented, and at the end some concrete examples from material practices are drawn.
