Sports betting has become a truly global phenomenon, facilitated by
new communication technologies. As a result, the development of
deviances, from match-fixing to money laundering, has accelerated.
This new reality has numerous implications, for both the regulation
of this billion-dollar industry and the very integrity of sport,
sport financing and betting operations. Written by an international
team of academic researchers and industry professionals,
International Sports Betting explores the central concepts of
integrity and deviance, governance and policy, as well as perennial
issues linked to the gambling sector, such as regulatory
responsibilities and the fight against gambling addiction. Unlike
other treatments of the gambling industry, the book offers a
multi-disciplinary sociological and managerial critique that goes
beyond a traditional focus on law and regulation. This is
fascinating reading for any student, researcher or practitioner
working in the areas of sport business, international business,
international regulation, policy studies or gambling studies.
This updated edition of Marketing Management and Communications in
the Public Sector provides a thorough overview of the major
concepts in public sector marketing and communications, two fields
that have continued to grow in importance for modern public
administrations. With extended coverage of topics such as social
marketing and institutional communication, the authors skilfully
build on the solid foundations laid down in the previous edition.
Replete with real-world case studies and examples, including new
material from the USA, Australia, and Asia, this book gives
students a truly international outlook. Additional features include
exercises and discussion questions in each chapter and an
illustrative extended case study. This refreshed text is essential
reading for postgraduate students on public management degrees, and
aspiring or current public managers. The Open Access version of
this book, available at

The enormous human and economic toll of Alzheimer's Disease in
societies in which more and more people are living into old age is
well-recognized. Scientists and practitioners alike have been
working to limit it. Their major focus has been patients in the
later stages of the disease, when dementia is fully established.
Yet patients in the early stages of cognitive decline, far more
numerous, often still living independently with family members,
present a bewildering variety of challenges. Bringing together
leading authors with diverse expertise, this Handbook offers the
first comprehensive overview of approaches to the management of
early-stage issues. The authors summarize the important
implications of the latest research in their own fields for: * the
recognition and formal diagnosis of cognitive problems; * the
assessment of specific difficulties in daily functioning; * the
formulation of a management plan integrating pharmacological,
neuropsychological, behavioral, and cognitive strategies; and * the
facilitation and support of caregivers' efforts. All professionals
involved in any way with the care of early Alzheimer's patients and
their families will find this book an indispensable reference.

reste aujourd'hui ouverte.

Medicinal chemistry is both science and art. The science of
medicinal chemistry offers mankind one of its best hopes for
improving the quality of life. The art of medicinal chemistry
continues to challenge its practitioners with the need for both
intuition and experience to discover new drugs. Hence sharing the
experience of drug research is uniquely beneficial to the field of
medicinal chemistry. Drug research requires interdisciplinary
team-work at the interface between chemistry, biology and medicine.
Therefore, the topic-related series Topics in Medicinal Chemistry
covers all relevant aspects of drug research, e.g.
pathobiochemistry of diseases, identification and validation of
(emerging) drug targets, structural biology, drugability of
targets, drug design approaches, chemogenomics, synthetic chemistry
including combinatorial methods, bioorganic chemistry, natural
compounds, high-throughput screening, pharmacological in vitro and
in vivo investigations, drug-receptor interactions on the molecular
level, structure-activity relationships, drug absorption,
distribution, metabolism, elimination, toxicology and
pharmacogenomics. In general, special volumes are edited by well
known guest editors.

Chronic oxidative stress is associated with the aging process and
often leads to the development of disorders such as cancer and
arterial disease. Cardiovascular conditions in which oxidation
damage has been strongly implicated include atherosclerosis,
myocardial ischemia and reperfusion, coronary restenosis, diabetes
mellitus, and congestive heart failure. Antioxidants and
Cardiovascular Disease, Second Edition covers three major topics:
1) the first seven chapters review the oxidative modifcation
hypothesis and its close relationship to lipid metabolism and to
the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis; 2) the next four chapters
describe the different compounds, nutrients and supplements with
antioxidant properties and their mechanisms of action; 3) and
finallly, the last ten chapters discuss the potential benefits of
antioxidants in overall cardiovascular prevention, including
hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemias, and in the
treatment and prevention of specific conditions such as chronic
coronary artery disease, restenosis after percutaneous coronary
intervention, and chronic heart failure. Antioxidants and
Cardiovascular Disease, Second Edition is written by recognized
experts in the fields of atherosclerosis, heart failure and
antioxidants. It should be of interest to medical students and
fellows, researchers, and practicing physicians. There has been
rapid progress in our knowledge in this field during the last two
to three years. Thus the current reedition appears timely. For
instance, this second edition captures several recently reported
and published clinical trials as welll as new information on
diabetic and hypertensive cardiovascular disease.
