These poems reflect the author's encounter with wild nature--some of the encounters were beautiful and some were terrifying. They reflect his experience of nature both as a poet and a scientist. Some of the poems are from his personal experience growing up on the semi-arid Oregon steppe. There is a numinous and sacred impulse in nature as well as a tragic dimension that these poems seek to capture.
