This book describes a comparative study of the primary science learning objectives (from the cognitive domain) in the curriculum of six high-achieving East Asian states - mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Japan and Singapore. Specifically, the authors use one of the most widely accepted and useful tools in curriculum research - revised Bloom's Taxonomy. This is the first time that such findings from all six states have been published in one place and the results are valuable for policymakers, educators and researchers around the globe. Our new English translations of the primary science learning objectives in China, Taiwan and Korea will also greatly facilitate future analyses of these curricula.

In contemporary society, science constitutes a significant part of human life in that it impacts on how people experience and understand the world and themselves. The rapid advances in science and technology, newly established societal and cultural norms and values, and changes in the climate and environment, as well as, the depletion of natural resources all greatly impact the lives of children and youths, and hence their ways of learning, viewing the world, experiencing phenomena around them and interacting with others. These changes challenge science educators to rethink the epistemology and pedagogy in science classrooms today as the practice of science education needs to be proactive and relevant to students and prepare them for life in the present and in the future. This text discusses a soft excitation technique, one of NMR signal excitation methods and applications of this method to 1D or 3D images of selected organic solid materials to one liquid crystal. It also discusses the possibility of dynamic study of liquid crystals with soft excitation by presenting self-diffusion study of two selected liquid crystals. Since this text is the author's Ph.D dissertation, it is aimed at people who understand basic spin dynamics and NMR and NMR imaging and want to know more about alternative ways of signal excitation methods in solid state NMR/MRI and their applications. It contains general understanding of existing solid state NMR methods and MRI techniques and what can be done in non-medical MRI and demonstrates NMR micro-imaging capability with selected flower stems.
