The culmination of 30 years of research and experience in T-cell-based cancer, this book highlights and evaluates new treatments that harness the power of the T cell to attack and kill all cancer cells in our bodies. It describes how the T cell immune system can be manipulated and redirected to kill resistant cancer cells by understanding and influencing the interaction of many different immune cells in the body. Citing current experimental trials, it examines the role and pathology of T-cells and suggests additional experimental approaches to the problem.
"How to Invest in a Secular Bear Market" is a sequel to Alexander's 2000 book "Stock Cycles," which forecast the start of a secular bear market, a lengthy period of poor investment performance. Alexander describes the structure of a secular bear market and explains why they happen. He then shows what an investor can expect from this secular bear market over the next 5-10 years and provides some investing strategies. "This is a brilliant and scholarly study that looks to create
longer term capital gains in retirement accounts based on cycle
investing. What I found particularly fascinating was the very
detailed and well-researched studies on the socio-economic/cultural
cycles of change throughout history. Wear your 'thinking cap' as
the author shows you how to capitalize on these cycles in your IRA
and 401(k) accounts." "This is a 'must read' for anyone interested in the business
cycles and their impact on investment dynamics and making money in
the stock market. The book brings together multiple cycle theories
in a comprehensive reading style."
Regulatory T cells (Tregs) are a vital component of the T cell immune system by their ability to control T cell responses that would lead to autoimmune disease. Tregs also protect damaged normal cells that are healing from T cells programmed to kill any abnormal cells in the body. Cancer (tumor) develops from normal cells and can express normal self-antigens. Tregs protect precancerous cells as if they were healing damaged cells and inhibit the anti-tumor T cell response by the use of advanced effector mechanisms, which stop the T cell immune system from effectively removing the tumor. The function of cells involved in this process is controlled by the cell membrane activation of intracellular translational pathways interacting with the nucleus that produces transcriptional proteins, which control cellular behavior such as secretion of lymphokines or cell proliferation. This book examines the function and related translational pathways of Tregs, anti-tumor T cells, and cancer cells. It relates that information to the treatment of cancer by examining human clinical trials of new immune cell-based treatments (immunotherapy). The book also proposes ways to improve those treatments by manipulating the translational pathways of immunotherapeutic cells. The hope is that these new treatment proposals stimulate positive thought about the future of cancer immunotherapy.
Michael Alexander extends his analysis of financial cycles in "Stock Cycles" (2000) and economic cycles in "The Kondratiev Cycle" (2002) to American politics. Alexander presents an empirical method to track Arthur Schlesinger's cycle of liberalism and conservatism and relates it to economic and cultural cycles. He proposes a mechanism for the Schlesinger cycle and its interaction with other cycles. Finally he assesses our current location within the cycle and uses the cycle to put into perspective several of the major issues of the day, including the War on Terror, Social Security, the economy and energy policy.
This is a practical reference for practicing plant engineers, maintenance supervisors, physical plant supervisors and mechanical maintenance technicians. It focuses on the skills needed to select, install and maintain electro-mechanical equipment in a typical industrial plant or facility which will keep equipment operating at peak reliability and companies functioning more profitably through reduced maintenance costs and increased productivity and capacity.
