The exciting experiments of the BABAR and BELLE collaborations have now proven violation of CP symmetry in the neutral B system. This has renewed strong interest in the physics of CP violation. Novel experimental techniques and new highly intense neutron sources are now becoming available to further test the related time reversal symmetry. They will substantially lower the current limit on the neutron electric dipole moment and hence open up new tests of theoretical concepts beyond the Standard Model. These are strongly required to explain the decisive excess of matter versus antimatter in our Universe. There is a de?nite need to communicate these exciting developments to younger scientists, and therefore we organized a summer school in October 2000 on "CP Violation and Related Topics," which was held in Prerow, a small Baltic Sea resort. These Lecture Notes were inspired by the vivid - terest of the participants, and I am grateful to the authors, who faced the unexpected and delivered all the material for an up-to-date introduction to this broad ?eld. This book provides a collection of up-to-date lectures on the physics of CP violation. As such it covers all relevant modern fields of elementary particle, nuclear and astrophysics. Special attention is paid to the neutral meson systems and the recent confirmation of CP violation in the B meson system. The theory and the novel methods needed for these experiments are given in detail. The classical and ongoing searches for the electric dipole moment of the neutron and other null tests of time-reversal symmetry are included. An elementary introduction is given to the astrophysical implications of CP violation, to tackle the puzzle of matter--antimatter asymmetry in our Universe. The aim of the book is to present recent achievements and discuss future developments in a way accessible to both postgraduate students and nonspecialist researchers. For the experienced researcher, the book will serve as a modern source of reference on this topic.

Freiheit ist das Problem jeder traditionellen Prädestinationslehre: Es gibt keine; zumindest keine echte, die wesentlichen Dinge des Lebens betreffende. Dem Franziskanertheologen Wilhelm von Ockham († 1347) aber war es ein besonderes Anliegen, den als Wahlfreiheit verstandenen freien Willen zu bewahren. Darum legte der "genialste aller Scholastiker" (Luther) eine Prädestinationslehre vor, die sowohl den Vorgaben der Tradition als auch seiner persönlichen Hochschätzung der Wahlfreiheit gerecht wurde. Michael Beyer stellt Ockhams Prädestinationslehre dar und zeigt sie dabei als Teil eines wohldurchdachten theologischen Systems, das an logischer Klarheit seinesgleichen sucht. Prädestinations- und Rechtfertigungslehre begegnen darin stets als Einheit. Da noch Luthers Erfurter Lehrer erheblich vom Denken des Venerabilis Inceptor geprägt waren, mag diese Studie überdies einen Beitrag dazu leisten, den Ausgangspunkt von Luthers Theologie besser zu verstehen.
