Double bill of action adventures set during World War Two, directed by Brian G. Hutton and starring Clint Eastwood. In 'Kelly's Heroes' (1970), a group of soldiers led by Kelly (Eastwood) capture a German general in occupied France. He reveals the location of a bank housing 14,000 bars of Nazi gold, which Kelly and his men set out to steal. The only problem is that the bank lies 30 miles behind enemy lines. In 'Where Eagles Dare' (1968) seven Allied agents are selected to rescue an American general from the impenetrable German fortress Schloss Adler. In charge of the team is British Major Smith (Richard Burton), with American Lieutenant Schaffer (Eastwood) as second in command. Parachuting into the enemy territory in German uniforms, the squad discover one of their number dead on arrival and Smith suspects that he may have a traitor amongst his unit.

Double bill of BBC adaptations of M.R. James's ghost story 'Oh, Whistle, and I'll Come to You, My Lad', written in 1904. In 'Whistle and I'll Come to You' (1968) Michael Hordern plays Professor Parkin who heads to a hotel on the east coast of England where he comes across a bone whistle while out on a walk. He takes it back to the hotel with him but that night hears strange noises in his room and, despite his dismissal of the supernatural, he is soon faced with more mysterious goings-on. In 'Whistle and I'll Come to You' (2010) John Hurt stars as James Parkin who, in this version, is a retired astronomer taking a much needed break from caring for his ailing wife. After finding a ring while wandering through the coastal resort he finds himself experiencing increasingly frightening and seemingly paranormal activity.
Gilbert Gunn directs this 1950s British comedy starring Guy Rolfe, Michael Hordern, Ronald Shiner and Lionel Jeffries. The officers on board HMS Scotia are quick to seize the opportunity for a party when they moor off the French Riviera. A BBC dramatisation of George Eliot's classic novel about the lives and loves of a group of people living on the cusp of the Industrial Revolution in a small town named Middlemarch. These include young Doctor Lydgate (Douglas Hodge), who arrives at Middlemarch hospital full of idealism and determined to do good works; Dorothea Brooke (Juliet Aubrey), who becomes attracted to the scholarly Edward Casaubon (Patrick Malahide) and then finds herself trapped in an ill-fated marriage; and Will Ladislaw (Rufus Sewell), a young lad who awakens Dorothea's repressed passion and thereby changes the course of her life.
Lewis Gilbert's dramatic re-telling of the Allied mission in the spring of 1941 to find and destroy Germany's largest battleship, the Bismarck. The story is told from two angles; the ships involved and the war-room in London where Captain John Shepherd (Kenneth More) plots the manouevres using models of the ships. Shepherd has an emotional reason for wanting the battleship sunk, his wife was recently killed in a German raid on London and his son is missing in action, and struggles to keep his emotions in line whilst making decisions that affect hundreds of lives. The final scenes are a mixture of newsreel of the battle and up-dated special effects.
