Multifunctional Mesoporous Inorganic Solids (Hardcover, 1993 ed.): Cesar A.C. Sequeira, Michael J. Hudson Multifunctional Mesoporous Inorganic Solids (Hardcover, 1993 ed.)

1. Introduction. There is much interest in the general subject of porous inorganic materials with respect to their use as sorbents or catalysts. Such inorganic solids may be microporous, mesoporous or macroporous according to the sizes of the pores within the solid. Often there is a range of pore sizes within any given solid and so there is special interest in the synthesis, characterisation and application of porous inorganic solids with well defined pores. Pores of diameter larger than 50 nm are generally termed macropores. Those with diameters of less than 2 nm are micropores and pores of intermediate size are called mesopores. Solids, which contain only mesopores, are correctly called mesoporous but very often there is a combination of different types of porosities within one given solid. The synthesis, characterisation and application of microporous solids is much more advanced than is the case with mesoporous substances. Moreover, the synthesis of crystalline mesoporous materials is one clear goal for the future but which has not been attained so far. Consequently, it is of interest to examine the current state of our knowledge of microporous materials and to examine how this may apply to mesoporous materials. Both catalytic and sorption processes could benefit from studies of mesoporous solids because the mesopores could permit diffusion of larger reactants or products than is the case in microporous materials. 2.

Vaccine Protocols (Hardcover, 2nd ed. 2003): Andrew P. Robinson, Martin P Cranage, Michael J. Hudson Vaccine Protocols (Hardcover, 2nd ed. 2003)
Andrew P. Robinson, Martin P Cranage, Michael J. Hudson
R4,291 Discovery Miles 42 910 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Vaccine research and development is advancing at an unprecedented pace, with an increasing emphasis on rational design based upon a fundamental und- standing of the underlying molecular mechanisms. The aim of this volume is to provide a selection of contemporary protocols that will be useful to both novice and advanced practitioner alike. The variety of procedures required to design, develop, produce, and assess a vaccine is immense and covers aspects of ch- istry, biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, and immunology. No single volume can hope to cover these topics exclusively. Rather, here we attempt to provide a methods sourcebook focusing on hands-on practical advice. Comp- mentary and background information may be found in other volumes in the Me- ods in Molecular Medicine series. Of particular interest are volumes on Dendritic Cell Protocols, Interleukin Protocols, Vaccine Adjuvants, and DNA Vaccines. Since the publication of the first edition of Vaccine Protocols there have been major advances, particularly in the areas of bacterial genomics, antig- specific T-cell quantification, genetic manipulation of vaccine vectors, the h- nessing of natural molecules concerned with the regulation of immune responses, and the burgeoning field of DNA vaccinology. Hence, the extensive revision of this edition with new chapters on live viral vaccine vectors, atte- ated bacterial vectors, immunomodulators, MHC-peptide tetrameric complexes, and the identification of vaccine candidates by genomic analysis. Additionally, chapters from the first edition have been updated to accommodate state-of-t- art methods in vaccinology.

The Anaerobe Discussion Group (ADG) organised has four I-ntern-ational College, Symposia, all at Churchill Cambridge. The first was held in July 1979, the second in July 1981, the third in July 1983, and this, the fourth, on July 26-28th, 1985. The proceedings of each of these meetings have been published (see below). As on previous occasions, the scientific programme was designed appeal to the wide range to of interests represented by ADG members. The meeting was attended by delegates from allover the world, including medical mic- biologists, veterinarians, dentists, biochemists, gene- cists and scientists from several other disciplines, all of whom share a common interest in anaerobic mic- organisms. The interchange of scientific information and ideas between the delegates in such pleasant surroundings was, as always, a valuable and rewarding experience. Unlike previous Biennial Symposia in the series, this meeting was sponsored by a number of companies rather than by a single sponsor. Despite some intitial concern by the organising committee, this arrangement worked well and we are extremely grateful to all the companies who supported the meeting so generously. The names of the sponsors are listed individually in the acknowledgements section. We were also very pleased to welcome those companies who took part in the Trade Show during the meeting. This book contains the papers given by invited contributors, followed by abstracts poster of the demonstration presented at the meeting

In an industry that's built on looks, glamour, sex appeal and the perfect body, nothing is more cruel than to wake up one morning and find that all those attributes that once were marketable have suddenly left you ready to retire to the "Actor's Retirement Home" in Woodland Hills, California; which at the moment has a very long waiting list due to all the incoming baby boomers. Welcome to the world of four Hollywood actresses over 50 who are not yet ready to retire. There's Deborah Elizabeth, the "Choppomatic Queen" of late night television; Candy Thomas, an Ex-Broadway Diva now known as Tina the "talking turkey" on a PBS kiddie show; Peggy Diamond, a fearless stuntwoman, and Nila Garrett, an unemployed actress that no one wants to hire. The glamour of Hollywood has changed for all four of them. But when a stunt goes wrong, an untimely death of a powerful Hollywood agent, and a life threatening illness leads to marriage; they suddenly find themselves consistently saying to one another..."I Love You More Than Shoes..".NOW THAT'S LOVE
