Improving Potassium Recommendations for Agricultural Crops (Paperback, 1st ed. 2021): T. Scott Murrell, Robert L. Mikkelsen,... Improving Potassium Recommendations for Agricultural Crops (Paperback, 1st ed. 2021)
T. Scott Murrell, Robert L. Mikkelsen, Gavin Sulewski, Robert Norton, Michael L. Thompson
R1,508 Discovery Miles 15 080 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This open access book highlights concepts discussed at two international conferences that brought together world-renowned scientists to advance the science of potassium (K) recommendations for crops. There was general agreement that the potassium recommendations currently in general use are oversimplified, outdated, and jeopardize soil, plant, and human health. Accordingly, this book puts forward a significantly expanded K cycle that more accurately depicts K inputs, losses and transformations in soils. This new cycle serves as both the conceptual basis for the scientific discussions in this book and a framework upon which to build future improvements. Previously used approaches are critically reviewed and assessed, not only for their relevance to future enhancements, but also for their use as metrics of sustainability. An initial effort is made to link K nutrition in crops and K nutrition in humans. The book offers an invaluable asset for graduate students, educators, industry scientists, data scientists, and advanced agronomists.

Imagination in Kant's Critical Philosophy (Hardcover): Michael L. Thompson Imagination in Kant's Critical Philosophy (Hardcover)
Michael L. Thompson
R6,443 Discovery Miles 64 430 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Kant's critical philosophy is rife with conflicting and aporetic doctrines. Amongst several difficult doctrines, one of the most salient and obscure discussions surrounds Kant's view of the imagination, Einbildungskraft. One finds Kant's initial discussion of the imagination in the section entitled the Transcendental Deduction in his Critique of Pure Reason; by Kant's own admission, the section that cost him the most labor. Instrumental in these most critical passagesis Kant's discussion of the imagination, but, due to revisions and emendations and a seeming change in doctrine from the 1st to the 3rd Critique, Kant's considered view of the imagination remains unclear. Many scholars eschew the discussion altogether, considering it arcana of an obsolete faculty pyschology. Even prominent Kant scholars have typically overlooked or marginalized pivotal sections in Kant's works in order to avoid dealing with this issue. Recently, however, a new interest in the imagination has resurfaced. This volume is a collection of essays that addresses the many uses of imagination throughout Kant's entire critical corpus, and intends to gain a better understanding of this lacuna.

Soils - Genesis and Geomorphology (Hardcover, 2nd Revised edition): Randall J. Schaetzl, Michael L. Thompson Soils - Genesis and Geomorphology (Hardcover, 2nd Revised edition)
Randall J. Schaetzl, Michael L. Thompson
R2,814 Discovery Miles 28 140 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

In its first edition, Soils established itself as the leading textbook in the fields of pedology and soil geomorphology. Expanded and fully updated, this second edition maintains its highly organized and readable style. Suitable as a textbook and a research-grade reference, the book's introductory chapters in soil morphology, mineralogy, chemistry, physics and organisms prepare the reader for the more advanced treatment that follows. Unlike its competitors, this textbook devotes considerable space to discussions of soil parent materials and soil mixing, along with dating and paleoenvironmental reconstruction techniques applicable to soils. Although introductions to widely used soil classification systems are included, theory and processes of soil genesis and geomorphology form the backbone of the book. Replete with more than 550 high-quality figures and photos and a detailed glossary, this book will be invaluable for anyone studying soils, landforms and landscape change anywhere on the globe.
