Drawing on Greimas' narrative semiotics and on cognitive science, Richter develops his theory of the "narrative judgement" as the core of the "narrative negotiation of problems." Narratives present contingent decisions, but can conceal their contingency in the name of an ideology. As Richter amply demonstrates, the narrative judgement allows the negotiation in narrative of theoretical problems which seem incapable of resolution in argument, e.g. the problem of Job in the Old Testament and the theodicy problem from Leibniz to Kant.

Dieses Buch entstand aus Vorlesungen, die ich in den letzten Jahren an der Universitat Kaiserslautern gehalten habe. Es bietet Stoff fUr etwa zwei vierstiindige Vorlesungen. In der ersten Halfte werden, neben allgemeinen Grundlagen der Ktinstlichen Intelligenz, deduktive Methoden abgehandelt. Die zweite Halfte stellt Techniken zur Verftigung, die ffir Anwendungen in Expertensystemen von Wichtigkeit sind; gleichzeitig wird dabei in den Bereich der Expertensysteme selbst eingefiihrt. Die meisten der behandelten Methoden und Begriffe sind jedoch auch ffir die tibrigen Teile der Ktinstlichen Intelligenz von grundlegendem Interesse; sie sollen eine gemeinsame konzeptionelle Basis fUr die vieifaltigen Auspragungen und Anwendungsfelder der Ktinstlichen Intelligenz bilden. Ais Einftihrung sollte das Buch vordringlich die wichtigsten Aspekte des Stoffes. wenigstens einmal vorstellen; deshalb war es nur an wenigen Punkten m6glich, etwas mehr in die Tiefe zu gehen. Es wird unbedingt empfohlen, eine Vorlesung tiber diesen Stoff mit praktischen Ubungen anzureichern; dazu sind den einzelnen Paragraphen am Ende Ubungsaufgaben beigegeben. ZweckmliBig ware es, wenn an Programmiersprachen PROLOG, OPS 5 und LISP zur Verftigung sttinden. Es ist aber nicht intendiert, daB man eine dieser Sprachen aus dem vorliegenden Buch lernt; das sollte unabhangig in einer praktischen Unterweisung erfolgen. Die Regelsprachen PROLOG und OPS 5 werden allerdings etwas ausfiihrlicher diskutiert, wei sich dies organisch aus dem behandelten Stoff ergibt. In LISP wird hingegen tiberhaupt nicht eingeftihrt, sondern es wird darauf nur in gelegentlichen Bemerkungen Bezug genommen."

In diesem Buch werden Aspekte der Aussagenlogik und der Pradikaten logik der ersten Stufe behandelt. Eine Mathematisierung und Kalku lisierung der Logik kann naturlich ganz verschieden ausfallen, je nach dem, von welchen Motiven man sich primar leiten lasst. Wir stellen drei Gesichtspunkte, die uns auch als die wesentlichsten erscheinen, in den Vordergrund: Die Formalisierung des Wahrheits begriffes, die Formalisierung des Beweisbarkeitsbegriffes und das Problem des Suchens nach Beweisen. Diese drei Aspekte fuhren zu drei verschiedenen Arten von Kalkulen. Die Betonung des Wahrheitsbegriffes fuhrte auf die untersuchung der Hilberttypkalkule von einem Standpunkt, wie er etwa auch im Buch von Rasiowa-Sikorski Ra-Si] eingenommen wird. Hierbei wurde besonderen Wert auf die algebraischen Techniken gelegt, denn die Natur der Vollstandigkeitsbeweise in diesen Kalkulen lasst sich u. E. eigentlich nur algebraisch verstehen. Etwas uberspitzt konnte man formulieren, dass die Vollstandigkeitsbeweise in Hilberttypkal kulen Korollare zu Betrachtungen uber Kongruenzrelationen in ge wissen Boole'schen Algebren sind. Bei den modelltheoretischen Be trachtungen haben wir uns kurz ge fasst und nur einige grundlegende Begriffe vorgestellt."
