Just for a moment, come with me
To see what I see
To hear what I hear
To be where I am
To know me
Why do I write
Using the written work, I can portray
The full color spectrum of a prism
In black on white
I enjoy placing a collection of letters in proper order
To provoke a thought in your mind
Of passiveness or passion
Happiness or sadness
Disappointment or unwavering support
I will not enter into the unknown
Trying to convey to you
Something I have not experienced
I will attempt to use vowels and consonants
To share my life's experiences with you
Saul Alinsky, according to Time Magazine in 1970, was a ""prophet
of power to the people,"" someone who ""has possibly antagonized
more people . . . than any other living American."" People Power
introduces the major organizers who adopted and modified Alinsky's
vision across the United States: Fred Ross, Cesar Chavez, Dolores
Huerta, and the Community Service Organization and National Farm
Workers Association Nicholas von Hoffman and the Woodlawn
Organization Tom Gaudette and the Northwest Community Organization
Ed Chambers, Richard Harmon, and the Industrial Areas Foundation
Shel Trapp, Gale Cincotta, and National People's Action Heather
Booth, Midwest Academy, and Citizen Action Wade Rathke and ACORN
Weaving classic texts with interviews and their own context-setting
commentaries, the editors of People Power provide the first
comprehensive history of Alinsky-based organizing in the tumultuous
period from 1955 to 1980, when the key organizing groups in the
United States took form. Many of these selections--previously
available only on untranscribed audiotapes or in difficult-to-read
mimeograph or Xerox formats--appear in print here for the first
time.

A Classic Tale of Adventure and Terror "You have entered a world of
death, but do not want to die. No treasure on earth is worth facing
the Yeti." In the year 1850, a British caravan crossing the
Himalayan Mountains from India into China has vanished, along with
its priceless treasure. Now the race is on to reclaim the lost
fortune as a pair of intrepid soldiers - a virtuous African private
and a daring British corporal - spearhead their own mission to
seize the prize by betraying their fellow troops. On this epic
adventure, each man's will, character and fortitude will be
challenged to survive the perilous quest as they battle the wrath
of the vengeful English army, the fury of the native bandits, the
greed of their cutthroat accomplices, and the harsh, frozen hell of
the alpine peaks. And the only other obstacle to their success is a
savage beast of mythical power.

In his final year of college at Middle State University, senior
Chris Warren finds that the courses he needs to graduate are not
offered and he will have to return to school for an extra year. As
he and Dr. Brumley, a sympathetic instructor, try to remedy the
situation, they confront the indifference and increasing hostility
of the university administration, whose members, as well as most of
Brumley's colleagues at Middle State, are committed largely to
their careers and to rising in the university hierarchy. Or as one
student has it, to kicking ass from a swivel chair. In their
year-long attempt to find justice, Warren and Brumley encounter
most of the follies and perversions of modern academia. Collect
athletics, the current lunacy of literary studies, student apathy
and inability, the menace of particular biological and physical
science research, corporate influence in higher education, the
dominance of computers - all are targets of Middle State's satire.
But behind them is the larger issue: What is an education for?
Discover the rich landscape and scenic beauty of Alaska's Inside
Passage, including Skagway, Haines, Juneau, Sitka, Petersburg,
Wrangell, and Ketchikan. Alaska's Southeast details the region's
history, culture, geography, and flora and fauna. It also provides
extensive information on when to go, what to bring, how to get
there and how to get around, where to eat, and where to stay. With
more than 10 million acres of forest, 1,000 islands, 10,000 miles
of shoreline, 50 to 70 major glaciers, and thousands of brown bears
and eagles, Alaska's Southeast offers much to be explored.
