ICIAR 2009, the International Conference on Image Analysis and Recognition, held in Halifax, Canada July 6-8, 2009, was the sixth in the ICIAR series of - nual conferences alternating between Europe and North America. ICIAR 2004 was held in Porto, Portugal, ICIAR 2005 in Toronto, Canada, ICIAR 2006 in P ovoa do Varzim, Portugal, ICIAR 2007 in Montreal, Canada, and ICIAR 2008 in Pov oa do Varzim, Portugal. The idea of o?ering these conferences came as a result of discussion between researchers in Portugal and Canada to enco- age collaboration and exchange, mainly between these two countries, but also with the open participationof other countries, addressing recent advances in the theory, methodology and applications of image analysis and recognition. For ICIAR 2009, wereceiveda total of 164full papersfrom 34 countries. The review process was carried out by the Program Committee members and other reviewers; all are experts in various image analysis and recognition areas. Each paper wasreviewedbyatleasttwo reviewers, andalsocheckedbythe conference Co-chairs. In all, 93 papers were ?nally accepted (45 oral presentations, and 48 posters) and appear in these proceedings. This year, di?erent from previous years, we opted for single sessions rather than parallel sessions to encourage participation in all sessions. Image technology is a continually evolving field with various applications such as image processing and analysis, biometrics, pattern recognition, object tracking, remote sensing, medicine diagnoses and multimedia. Significant progress has been made in the level of interest in image morphology, neural networks, full color image processing, image data compression, image recognition, and knowledge -based image analysis systems.
Computer graphics has been mainly driven by engineering design processes and has established itself as a dominating methodology in computer aided design (CAD). Subsequently, computer graphics has found applications in information visualization, computer art, digital entertainment, user interfaces, visual programming, scientific visualization, education and training. Traditionally, the image technology and the computer graphics technology have subsumed slightly different goals. In computer graphics, computers are used to create pictures, animations and simulations. The image technology, on the other hand, consists of techniques and methodologies that modify or interpret existing pictures.
Integrated Image and Graphics Technologies attempts to enhance the access points to both introductory and advanced material in this area, and to facilitate the reader with a comprehensive reference for the study of integrated technologies, systems of image and graphics conveniently and effectively. The currant study was carried out at one of the most important regions of Egypt (Saint Katherine Protectorate, South Sinai) during the period from September 2008 to September 2009. The currant study aimed to estimate plant galls induction in SKP assimilated by the twenty one chosen localities. Two hundred and twenty three records of plant galls were found ten plant species belonging to 8 families in SKP. Every host plant species may has one or more parts that are subjected to gall formation.

The currant study was carried out at one of the most important regions of Egypt (Saint Katherine Protectorate, South Sinai) during the period from September 2008 to September 2009. The currant study aimed to estimate and assess the biological diversity of gall insects in SKP assimilated by the twenty one chosen localities. The study also aimed to investigate the impact of different ecological factors, such as altitude, vegetation cover on the temporal and spatial distribution of insect galls. Gall inducers' diversity in SKP was calculated according to Simpson diversity index that clarified the high diversity of these gall inducers in SKP. Insect galls were found on ten plant species belonging to 8 families in SKP. Every host plant species may has one or more parts that are subjected to gall formation. Different ecological factors, such as altitude, vegetation cover were affected the temporal and spatial distribution of insect galls.
