A Theory of Sustainable Sociocultural and Economic Development (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2090): Mohamed Rabie A Theory of Sustainable Sociocultural and Economic Development (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2090)
Mohamed Rabie
R3,338 Discovery Miles 33 380 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Why do some countries' economies struggle to develop, even when they are the focus of so much research and international funding? While recognizing that the obstacles facing poor nations are many and complex, Rabie proposes that the roots of most obstacles are sociocultural; thus, sociocultural transformation and economic restructuring can only be successful when treated as interconnected, mutually beneficial objectives. A Theory of Sustainable Sociocultural and Economic Development outlines an innovative model capable of identifying the major obstacles hindering poor nations' development in general, and the sociocultural and political obstacles in particular, placing them in their proper historical contexts, and addressing them comprehensively.

Conflict Resolution and Ethnicity (Hardcover): Mohamed Rabie Conflict Resolution and Ethnicity (Hardcover)
Mohamed Rabie
R2,694 Discovery Miles 26 940 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book follows an approach that combines the viewpoints of both the realists and the idealists in dealing with the issues of conflict and peace. The ideas, models, and peace processes it proposes take into consideration the imperatives of real life without abandoning the dreams of a more peaceful and just world. The shared homeland model, as developed here, provides hope that ethnic conflict can be resolved in a manner that satisfies a group's need for recognition and cultural particularism, as well as its need for economic development, security, and regional activity. The book also defines and integrates steps of political conflict resolution into one theory that produces one of the first textbooks on the subject.

The Global Debt Crisis and Its Socioeconomic Implications - Creating Conditions for a Sustainable, Peaceful, and Just World... The Global Debt Crisis and Its Socioeconomic Implications - Creating Conditions for a Sustainable, Peaceful, and Just World (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2018)
Mohamed Rabie
R3,838 Discovery Miles 38 380 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This fascinating and ambitious book proposes a new strategy ("the Ramo Plan") to tackle the current global socioeconomic crisis. Issuing a direct challenge to the status quo, the author lays out a bold set of policies to overcome the West-East divide and lead us to a more successful and secure future. Alongside the presentation of a new economic approach, this book provides a thorough survey of the major forces behind the decline in economic growth rates. It examines the state of the major world economies, explores the impact of the global debt crisis, identifies the income and wealth gaps in the United States and other countries, and explains the relationship between these issues and the spread of alienation, radicalism and terrorism. Imaginative and refreshing, this is valuable and original reading for students and academics interested in international political economy, economic development, sustainable development, and social economics, as well as global policy, area studies, globalization studies, and international relations.

The Politics of Foreign Aid - U.S. Foreign Assistance and Aid to Israel (Hardcover): Mohamed Rabie The Politics of Foreign Aid - U.S. Foreign Assistance and Aid to Israel (Hardcover)
Mohamed Rabie
R2,150 Discovery Miles 21 500 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

United States aid to Israel averages a staggering $21 billion per year. Yet, as this insightful volume explains, that aid has failed to serve both U.S. and Israeli interests. The Politics of Foreign Aid discusses how the appropriation of foreign aid is often controlled by lobbyists and U.S. domestic concerns rather than by Israeli needs. This clear and thorough examination begins with a description of the objectives, major programs, and historical background of U.S. aid to Israel--military aid, economic aid, and private grants and subsidies. The final section analyzes the effect that foregin aid has had on Israel and predicts the role that aid will play in Israel's future. Finally, Rabie provides suggestions about how to change the role of lobbyists in influencing foreign policy.

A Kinetic Model for the Oxidation of Silicon Germanium Alloys (Paperback): Mohamed Rabie A Kinetic Model for the Oxidation of Silicon Germanium Alloys (Paperback)
Mohamed Rabie
R1,461 Discovery Miles 14 610 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Silicon germanium alloys have received much attention in recent years for their potential application in high speed and optoelectronics applications. Kinetics of SiGe oxidation need to be well understood for two reasons: (1) to allow predictive process modeling of the oxidation process for technology development; and (2) to give insight into the factors that are responsible for the poor electrical quality of the resulting oxide. Some models have been proposed to explain the outcomes of the oxidation process, yet a complete model is still unavailable. It has been shown that the resulting oxide can be either pure SiO2 or mixed oxides (SiO2 + GeO2). As well, the oxidation process can result in a layered structure of both types of oxides. Based on the understanding of the physical phenomena that occur during the oxidation process, we concluded a physical model that encompasses the explanations reported by other researchers as well as some conclusions we derived.

Biogenic Amines in Food (Paperback): Mohamed Rabie, Hassan Siliha, Sohar Elsaidy Biogenic Amines in Food (Paperback)

In fermented foods, the presence of BAs is due to the decarboxylase activity of the lactic acid bacteria (LAB) used as starter culture, and to the action of some spoilage bacteria. In non-fermented foods, the presence of BAs is only indicative of undesired microbial activity. Therefore, the amine level could be used as an indicator of microbial spoilage. The amounts of histamine, putrescine, and cadaverine usually increase during spoilage of fish and meat. Early detection of BA- producing bacteria is essential in the food industry, in order to avoid the risk of amine formation and, subsequently, a cause of food-borne disease. Several methods exist for isolation, identifying, and determination of biogenic amines in fermented foods.

Orange juice concentrate is one of the most important orange products, which is widely appreciated in the world market. Concentration of orange juice by evaporation alters the final color, taste, aroma and nutritional characteristics of reconstituted juice. Therefore, the present study was carried out to evaluate the following points: 1. Evaluation of the use of enzymatic treatment in combination with serum pulp method for concentration of Valencia orange juice and the impact of this process on chemical composition and volatile flavor compounds. 2. The effect of pasteurization on the physicochemical properties and volatile flavor compounds of Valencia orange juice, pulp and serum. Both unpasteurized orange juice and serum separated from it was concentrated by a rotary evaporator under vacuum.
