The story follows the inseparable London pair Milly (Collette) and Jess (Barrymore), who have been friends since they were schoolgirls, as they confront the life-altering events that await them in adult life. Milly's world falls apart when she is diagnosed with cancer and, as she begins receiving treatment, she has to explain the situation to her two young children while her husband Kit (Dominic Cooper) slowly loses interest in her.
