This book investigates energy management approaches for energy efficient or energy-centric system design and architecture and presents end-to-end energy management in the recent heterogeneous-type wireless network medium. It also considers energy management in wireless sensor and mesh networks by exploiting energy efficient transmission techniques and protocols. and explores energy management in emerging applications, services and engineering to be facilitated with 5G networks such as WBANs, VANETS and Cognitive networks. A special focus of the book is on the examination of the energy management practices in emerging wireless cellular and ad hoc networks. Considering the broad scope of energy management in wireless cellular and ad hoc networks, this book is organized into six sections covering range of Energy efficient systems and architectures; Energy efficient transmission and techniques; Energy efficient applications and services.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 10th International Conference on Cognitive Radio Oriented Wireless Networks, CROWNCOM 2015, held in Doha, Qatar, in April 2015. The 66 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 110 submissions and cover the evolution of cognitive radio technology pertaining to 5G networks. The papers are clustered to topics on dynamic spectrum access/management, networking protocols for CR, modeling and theory, HW architecture and implementations, next generation of cognitive networks, standards and business models, and emerging applications for cognitive networks.
This book focuses on the emerging research topic "green (energy efficient) wireless networks" which has drawn huge attention recently from both academia and industry. This topic is highly motivated due to important environmental, financial, and quality-of-experience (QoE) considerations. Specifically, the high energy consumption of the wireless networks manifests in approximately 2% of all CO2 emissions worldwide. This book presents the authors’ visions and solutions for deployment of energy efficient (green) heterogeneous wireless communication networks. The book consists of three major parts. The first part provides an introduction to the "green networks" concept, the second part targets the green multi-homing resource allocation problem, and the third chapter presents a novel deployment of device-to-device (D2D) communications and its successful integration in Heterogeneous Networks (HetNets). The book is novel in that it specifically targets green networking in a heterogeneous wireless medium, which represents the current and future wireless communication medium faced by the existing and next generation communication networks. The book focuses on multi-homing resource allocation, exploiting network cooperation, and integrating different and new network technologies (radio frequency and VLC), expanding the network coverage and integrating new device centric communication paradigms such as D2D Communications. Whilst the book discusses a significant research topic supported with advanced mathematical analysis, the resulting algorithms and solutions are explained and summarized in a way that is easy to follow and grasp. This book is suitable for networking and telecommunications engineers, researchers in industry and academia, as well as students and instructors.
By specializing in a vertical market, companies can better understand their customers and bring more insight to clients in order to become an integral part of their businesses. This approach requires dedicated tools, which is where artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) will play a major role. By adopting AI software and services, businesses can create predictive strategies, enhance their capabilities, better interact with customers, and streamline their business processes. This edited book explores novel concepts and cutting-edge research and developments towards designing these fully automated advanced digital systems. Fostered by technological advances in artificial intelligence and machine learning, such systems potentially have a wide range of applications in robotics, human computing, sensing and networking. The chapters focus on models and theoretical approaches to guarantee automation in large multi-scale implementations of AI and ML systems; protocol designs to ensure AI systems meet key requirements for future services such as latency; and optimisation algorithms to leverage the trusted distributed and efficient complex architectures. The book is of interest to researchers, scientists, and engineers working in the fields of ICTs, networking, AI, ML, signal processing, HCI, robotics and sensing. It could also be used as supplementary material for courses on AI, machine and deep learning, ICTs, networking signal processing, robotics and sensing.
The widespread use of mobile internet and smart applications has led to an explosive growth in mobile data traffic, which will continue due to the emerging need of connecting people, machines, and applications in an ubiquitous manner through the mobile infrastructure. The efficient and satisfactory operation of all these densely deployed networks hinges on a suitable backhaul and fronthaul provisioning. The research community is working to provide innovative technologies with extensive performance evaluation metrics along with the required standardisation milestones, hardware and components for a fully deployed network by 2020 and beyond. Access, Fronthaul and Backhaul Networks for 5G & Beyond provides an overview from both academic and industrial stakeholders of innovative backhaul/fronthaul solutions. Covering a wide spectrum of underlying themes ranging from the recent thrust in edge caching for backhaul relaxation to mmWave-based fronthauling for radio access networks, this book is essential reading for engineers, researchers, designers, architects, technicians, students and service providers in the field of networking, mobile and wireless and computing technologies working towards the deployment of 5G networks.
