Research in the field of senescence has boomed recently due to the
gradual realization that senescent cells are associated with a
significant number of diseases. The genetic or pharmacological
elimination of senescent cells can cause widespread benefits and
improves outcomes for most of those diseases. Cellular Senescence
in Diseases presents an updated review of the role of cellular
senescence in multiple pathologies. Focus is given to those
diseases where the implication of senescence has been more
extensively documented, such as (cancer, lung and liver diseases,
diabetes, Neurodegenerative diseases and others). The Editors
recruited a group of worldwide experts in each individual pathology
to review the role of cellular senescence in each one of them,
aiming at identifying potential therapeutic pathways. The first two
chapters provide an overview of the cellular senescence principles.
Next, the chapters are divided into specific diseases. Cancer,
including premalignant lesions (OIS), Advanced disease (TIS), and
Metastasis are covered. The following condition covered is Lund
diseases, including IPF, COPD, and Pulmonary Hypertension. Next
Liver Diseases are covered, including Fibrosis and Cirrhosis, and
Fatty liver disease. Next there is coverage for Kidney
implications, including fibrosis and transplantation. Vascular
diseases are covered next including infarction and hear fibrosis,
and atherosclerosis. Both diabetes types 1 and 2 are covered next.
Following chapters cover Obesity, Sarcopenia, and Bone and
Cartilage disorders, respectively. Neurodegenerative diseases are
covered next, focusing on Alzheimer and Parkinson. The next chapter
discusses accumulation of senescent cell in tissues during aging.
The two final chapters cover current developments and conclusions.
Cellular Senescence in Diseases is designed for researchers and
clinicians with a focus on the cellular mechanisms of diseases. All
chapters cover current experimental therapeutic approaches to
eliminate or cancel the pathological effects of senescent cells.
Pharmaceutical scientists may also benefit from the contents of the
book in the exploration of novel therapeutic opportunities.
Ergonomics promotes sustainability through the presence of more
humane companies, that is, healthier, safer, more comfortable and
efficient businesses with one of the objectives of the business
being the promotion of well-being in the context of the discourse
on sustainability. Taking health into account in business policies
helps ensure sustainable production systems. The role of ergonomics
in companies in the business sustainability environment can
contribute to increasing the performance of the organization.
Sustainable development includes social aspects among its
objectives, where work and the worker are fundamental. Likewise,
work can also benefit sustainable development since workers are
active agents in society. Sustainable work is one that improves the
performance of the organization and promotes professional
development, as well as the health of workers in a broad and
positive way (not limited to the absence of disease, but in the
sense of building health) and well-being. In this way, respect and
the development of intelligence and creativity (in the face of
alienating work) are promoted when carrying out work that makes
sense, where not only is the profound importance of physical,
cognitive and organizational issues understood, but also , above
all, the importance of work for the development of culture. There
seems to be a natural synergy between sustainability and
ergonomics, with the aim of understanding and optimizing the
results of human system interactions. When speaking of men (human
factor), machines (technical factor) and environment
(socio-technical factor), one must try to find the concrete
conditions of their interaction through the integrated ergonomic
triad. The result of integration is a whole of common
characteristics that is above the individual characteristics of the
factors, to humanize the other elements in terms of man. The
objective of this book is to present the new trends in sustainable
work through the analysis and application of methods to evaluate
and improve the interaction of human beings with their work, their
work area, and their environment. This book is divided into
sections that focus on concept chapters, case studies, and research
work in the industry, suggesting the use of method engineering
tools, physical ergonomics, organizational ergonomics, cognitive
ergonomics, environmental ergonomics, and sustainable development.
The target audience includes students, academics, researchers,
engineers working in the industry, professionals responsible for
ergonomics or safety and hygiene, and the general professional
public committed to the well-being of human capital and the
performance of the organization. Therefore, the contributions
should address the scientific and practical implications of
industrial engineering, ergonomics, and sustainable development in
manufacturing and services.
Most solar cells currently in commercial use are p-type solar
cells, due to their historically lower cost and ease of manufacture
compared to n-type solar cells. However, due to improved
manufacturing technology and falling cost in general, the cost
difference between the two types has shrunk, making n-type solar
cells an attractive option for future commercial high-efficiency
solar cells. n-type solar cells are less prone to light-induced
degradation, and are also less affected by iron impurities. This
makes n-type solar cells more efficient compared to their p-type
counterparts, with efficiencies of up to 25% being feasible in
production. Challenges in the manufacturing process and regarding
degradation still remain to be solved, in order to realise n-type
solar cells' full potential. The challenges, solutions and
opportunities afforded by n-type solar cells are explored in this
volume. This book conveys current research and development for
n-type solar cells and modules. With a systematic build-up,
chapters cover the base material, wafer production, and the cell
concepts including recent passivation techniques. Also covered are
the related issues of solar module technology, such as
encapsulation and interconnection, and degradation process
management, including comparisons with p-type solar cells. In
addition, economic and ecologic aspects and cost modelling are
addressed. This thorough, concise reference is a valuable resource
for researchers from industry and academia working in the field of
photovoltaics.
Environmental Resilience and Transformation in Times of COVID-19:
Climate Change Effects on Environmental Functionality is a timely
reference to better understand environmental changes amid the
COVID-19 pandemic and the associated lockdowns. The book is
organized into five themes: (1) environmental modifications,
degradation, and human health risks; (2) water resources-planning,
management, and governance; (3) air quality-monitoring, fate,
transport, and drivers of socioenvironmental change; (4) marine and
lacustrine environment; and (5) sustainable development goals and
environmental justice. These themes provide an insight into the
impact of COVID-19 on the environment and vice versa, which will
help improve environmental management and planning, as well as
influence future policies. Featuring many case studies from around
the globe, this book offers a crucial examination of the
intersectionality between climate, sustainability, the environment,
and public health for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers
in environmental science.
Demand response (DR) describes controlled changes in the power
consumption of an electric load to better match the power demand
with the supply. This helps with increasing the share of
intermittent renewables like solar and wind, thus ensuring use of
the generated clean power and reducing the need for storage
capacity. This book conveys the principles, implementation and
applications of demand response. Chapters cover an overview of
industrial DR strategies, cybersecurity, DR of industrial
customers, price-based demand response, EV, transactive energy, DR
with residential appliances, use of machine learning and neural
networks, measurement and verification, and case studies in the
Aran Islands, as well as a use case of AI and NN in energy
consumption markets. The chapters have been written by an
international team of highly qualified experts from academia as
well as industry, ensuring a balanced and practically oriented
insight. Readers will be able to develop and apply DR strategies to
their respective systems. Industrial Demand Response: Methods, best
practices, case studies, and applications is a valuable resource
for researchers involved with regional as well as industrial power
systems, power system engineers, experts at grid operators and
advanced students.

Although the effort to involve women in engineering has risen in
recent years with the creation of new initiatives and the promotion
of inclusion in technical disciplines, the active participation of
women in engineering professions is continuously lower than
expected. While the need for engineers appears to be constantly
increasing, women still do not fill most of this role and have a
long way to go to even reach an equal split in the field. This
gender gap has a significant impact how women in the STEM fields
are perceived as well as their experiences in their education and
careers. When it comes to Latin American women in IT, their
contribution to science can go unnoticed, their participation
levels in these fields are very low, and they often occupy
lower-level positions than their male counterparts. These issues
need to be discussed, and the experiences of women who work in the
field must be shared. Latin American Women and Research
Contributions to the IT Field highlights the important role of
Latin American women in IT by collecting and disseminating their
frontier-research contributions in order to provide more visibility
and inspire greater participation of Latin American women within
the major field of computer science. With chapters contributed by
female authors from eight Latin American and Caribbean countries,
the book provides a deep analysis of these women's trajectory paths
to high quality theoretical and applied relevant research in
computer science and IT. While highlighting areas such as
inclusivity and STEM education, along with advancements and
achievements in topics that include nonverbal interaction in
virtual reality, fuzzy logic applications in education, and ant
colony optimization, this book is ideal for professionals,
academics, students, and researchers working in the fields of
information technologies and computer science as well as those
interested in gender and women's studies.
original y conmovedora.
