"The Language of Sadomasochism" contains vocabulary and defines
activities that many will find offensive. It has been published to
aid linguists, folklorists, sociologists, psychologists, and other
adult researchers develop a better understanding of this
subculture.
"The Language of Sadomasochism" represents the first systematic,
comprehensive account ever attempted of the specialized terminology
used by sadomasochists. The work is divided into three distinct
sections. Part one provides a thorough introduction to the
subculture of sadomasochism, its history in the Western world, and
its place in American culture, in literature, and in the work of
non-linguist social scientists. Part two is a comprehensive
glossary of more than 800 terms currently in use among
sadomasochists. For each term the authors provide part-of-speech
labels, etymologies, definitions, citations illustrating actual
usage, related forms of the word, cross references to semantically
and conceptually related terms, and special notes on usage. Part
three contains a linguistic analysis of the terminology and
illustrates how the language of sadomasochism is related both to
the English language as a whole and to the sadomasochists who use
the specialized language. The book concludes with a complete
bibliography of all references cited, a list of difficult-to-find
sadomasochism-related periodicals, and an index providing easy
access to groups of semantically and conceptually related
terms.
Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.
This issue of Immunology and Allergy Clinics provides a
comprehensive review of autoimmune skin diseases, including bullous
pemphigoid, pemphigus vulgaris, linear IgA disease, dermatitis
herpetiformis, blistering and bullous diseases.
Part II of Dr. Murrell's issue devoted to Autoimmune Blistering
Diseases focuses on the management of these conditions along with
drug treatment, complications, and the treatment of AIBD around the
world.? Articles include corticosteroid use in AIBD, AIBD
management in pregnancy, prevention of opportunistic infections,
and therapeutic approaches to patients with mucous membrane
pemphigoid, as well as AIBD management in France, Iran, the United
States and other countries.
This issue of Dermatologic Clinics is the first of a two-part
series examining Epidermolysis Bullosa. Guest Editor Dedee Murrell
has assembled a panel of experts to pen articles on topics covering
pathogenesis, clinical features, diagnosis, treatment, and
international perspectives on EB.

Methane and its oxidation product, methanol, have occupied an
important position in the chemical industry for many years: the
former as a feedstock, the latter as a primary chemical from which
many products are produced. More recently, the role played by
methane as a potent "greenhouse" gas has aroused considerable
attention from environmentalists and clima tologists alike. This
role for C compounds has, of course, been quite 1 incidental to the
myriad of microorganisms on this planet that have adapted their
life-styles to take advantage of these readily available am bient
sources. Methane, a renewable energy source that will always be
with us, is actually a difficult molecule to activate; so any
microorganism that can effect this may point the way to catalytic
chemists looking for con trollable methane oxidation. Methanol,
formed as a breakdown product of plant material, is also ubiquitous
and has also encouraged the growth of prokaryotes and eukaryotes
alike. In an attempt to give a balanced view of how microorganisms
have been able to exploit these simple carbon sources, we have
asked a number ofleading scientists (modesty forbids our own
inclusion here) to contribute chapters on their specialist areas of
the subject."

A volume in Research in Mathematics Education Series Editor Barbara
J. Dougherty, University of Mississippi The purpose of this book is
to document the work of the Show-Me Project (1997-2007) and to
highlight lessons learned about curriculum implementation. Although
the Show-Me Project was charged with promoting the dissemination
and implementation of four distinct comprehensive curriculum
programs (Connected Mathematics, Mathematics in Context, MathScape,
and MathThematics), most of the lessons learned from this work are
not curriculum specific. Rather, they cut across the four programs
and share commonalities with standards-based curriculum reform at
any level. We believe that documenting these lessons learned will
be one of the legacies of the Show-Me Project We anticipate that
the comprehensive nature of this work will attract readers from
multiple audiences that include state and district mathematics
supervisors, middle grades mathematics teachers and administrators
involved in curriculum reform, as well as mathematics teacher
educators. Those about to embark on the review of curriculum
materials will appreciate reading about the processes employed by
other districts. Readers with interests in a particular curriculum
program will be able to trace the curriculum-specific chapters to
gain insights into how the design of the curricula relate to
professional development, adoption and implementation issues, and
teachers' personal experience using the curriculum materials.
Individuals who provide professional development at the middle
grades level will find chapters that they can use for both general
and focused discussions. Teachers at all stages of implementation
will recognize their own experiences in reading and reflecting on
the stories of teacher change. Mathematics educators will find
ideas on how these curricula can be used in the preparation of
preservice middle grades teachers.
This open access book highlights concepts discussed at two
international conferences that brought together world-renowned
scientists to advance the science of potassium (K) recommendations
for crops. There was general agreement that the potassium
recommendations currently in general use are oversimplified,
outdated, and jeopardize soil, plant, and human health.
Accordingly, this book puts forward a significantly expanded K
cycle that more accurately depicts K inputs, losses and
transformations in soils. This new cycle serves as both the
conceptual basis for the scientific discussions in this book and a
framework upon which to build future improvements. Previously used
approaches are critically reviewed and assessed, not only for their
relevance to future enhancements, but also for their use as metrics
of sustainability. An initial effort is made to link K nutrition in
crops and K nutrition in humans. The book offers an invaluable
asset for graduate students, educators, industry scientists, data
scientists, and advanced agronomists.
This resource will lead the reader through the practicalities of
assessment, diagnosis and therapeutic intervention for children of
all ages with features of childhood apraxia of speech. It provides
the theory and underlying principles upon which to work with
children who have this fascinating but challenging disorder in
collaboration with families and schools. Chapters are clearly laid
out, with hands on activities for intervention and helpful
summaries. There is a focus on alternative and augmentative means
of communication and multidisciplinary working, as well as a wealth
of case studies and teaching notes for training other
professionals. Fresh ways of working are addressed, such as the use
of teletherapy and other techniques such as group therapy and the
consultative approach are discussed. Key features include: A
theoretical overview of current thinking about childhood apraxia of
speech A structured assessment format with a chapter specifically
focused on how to take a detailed speech sample Clear guidance on
how to make a differential diagnosis How to spot early indicators
