Countries recovering from conflicts face economic and institutional devastation - of vital infrastructure such as schools, factories, communication networks, roads, railways, and water systems, as well as diminished human resources, a very weak legal structure and governmental institutions. In this context, policymakers are faced with the task of creating an integrated and comprehensive approach to post-conflict reconstruction with a view to sustainable economic development, political stability and peace consolidation. This volume critically examines the various approaches to encouraging and regulating foreign investment in post-conflict countries. From the perspectives of both the foreign investor and the host country, it suggests how policymakers in post-conflict countries can design a foreign investment strategy that brings real and meaningful economic development as part of the wider peace-building process. FDI in post-conflict countries is discussed from different methodological perspectives, including comparative law and comparative politics, based on case studies of Afghanistan, Rwanda, DRC, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Colombia, Angola and Mozambique. _______________________________ *Virtus C. How Not To Run 100 Marathons (Paperback): Nicholas Turner How Not To Run 100 Marathons (Paperback)

R547 Discovery Miles 5 470 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This is a running book like no other. The stories are those of an unremarkable man who sleptwalked into what transpired to be a series of remarkable running adventures around the world as he completed 100 marathons. Adventures which traversed highs and lows, from glorious ultramarathon victories and befriending natives to ignominious withdrawals and encounters with the local constabulary in three different countries. In short, the stuff of a mother's nightmares, but a bar room dream. As the title implies, this book might not be one for the running purists, but it hopefully shows that even long distance running can be pursued without unduly sacrificing less wholesome aspects of life. It is a book primarily intended to make the reader smile and persuade them to run a little (for the non-runners) or a little more (for the runners).

The Darker Side of Evil (Paperback): Andre Nicholas Turner The Darker Side of Evil (Paperback)
Andre Nicholas Turner
R268 Discovery Miles 2 680 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The Darker Side of Evil debunks the popular myth that all serial killers are White. Quite to the contrary, a great many of the most prolific serial killers in American history are Black. Taking advantage of America's infatuation with murder, Hollywood has reaped untold millions from their constant portrayal of the Caucasian serial murderer. All the while media outlets refuse to acknowledge the existence of the African-American serial killer. The unwillingness of the media to recognize the existence of these predators not only allow them to hide in plain sight but may have cost many innocent victims their lives as a result.
