This special book asks children a simple question: How Can We Be Kind? The answer is: by learning from the animal kingdom! Animals demonstrate kindness and empathy towards each other, and care and compassion can be seen all throughout the natural world. This book shows children the ways they can be kind just like animalsare to each other, while at the same time teaching them about the magic and the beauty of the natural world. They can learn to be welcoming like capybaras, who let other animals sit on top of them while they wallow in mud. Or perhaps they might want to be like dolphins, who guide other species to their destinations. Or maybe they would like to work together like ants and bees, share what they have like jackdaws or stick up for their friends like zebras. With beautiful illustrations from Darla Okada, this beautiful picture book will enchant and entertain children time and time again. There are facts at the back about how each animal lives with and looks after its fellow creatures. This sweet and thoughtful book is both a celebration of the animal world and a manifesto for being kind in everyday life.

" "No-No Boy" has the honor of being the very first Japanese American novel," writes novelist Ruth Ozeki in her new foreword to John Okada's classic of Asian American literature. First published in 1956, "No-No Boy" was virtually ignored by a public eager to put World War II and the Japanese internment behind them. It was not until the mid-1970s that a new generation of Japanese American writers and scholars recognized the novel's importance and popularized it as one of literature's most powerful testaments to the Asian American experience. "No-No Boy" tells the story of Ichiro Yamada, a fictional version of the real-life "no-no boys." Yamada answered "no" twice in a compulsory government questionnaire as to whether he would serve in the armed forces and swear loyalty to the United States. Unwilling to pledge himself to the country that interned him and his family, Ichiro earns two years in prison and the hostility of his family and community when he returns home to Seattle. As Ozeki writes, Ichiro's "obsessive, tormented" voice subverts Japanese postwar "model-minority" stereotypes, showing a fractured community and one man's "threnody of guilt, rage, and blame as he tries to negotiate his reentry into a shattered world." The first edition of "No-No Boy" since 1979 presents this important work to new generations of readers.

The success or failure of inclusive business often depends on institutional interconnections. By examining case studies of inclusive business projects in India and several African nations, Institutional Interconnections and Cross-Boundary Cooperation in Inclusive Business asks how these connections can be developed to help alleviate poverty through business activities in developing countries. Conceptual orientations of what inclusion means can act to restrict the value orientation of an inclusive business project and its management practices. A significant approach of this book is an understanding that the economically disadvantaged have their own institutions to which they credibly commit, and that they are important, valuable, and dignified stakeholders or partners in an inclusive business project. By giving more weight to these institutions, it is possible to understand that some local companies may engage in inclusive practices by involving these actors as part of their regular business activities. Using concepts of mainstream, marginalized, and hybrid inclusion, this book explores the nature and characteristics of institutional interconnections in inclusive business in a study that will appeal to researchers and practitioners of strategy, international business, and corporate social responsibility.
This book examines what mechanisms enable science-intensive organizations to broaden beneficiaries of science in urban settings. Focusing on organizations that constitute urban resilience systems and networks, it maps the contributions of academic institutions, established multinationals, and entrepreneur firms in environmental, material, and related life sciences. It then develops a model of strategy and governance for organizations to invest in and implement new environmental material science projects. This book provides researchers with a framework based on management theories of R&D and resource allocation for resolving urban issues.

This book is a compilation of advanced research and applications on robotic item picking and warehouse automation for e-commerce applications. The works in this book are based on results that came out of the Amazon Robotics Challenge from 2015-2017, which focused on fully automated item picking in a warehouse setting, a topic that has been assumed too complicated to solve or has been reduced to a more tractable form of bin picking or single-item table top picking. The book's contributions reveal some of the top solutions presented from the 50 participant teams. Each solution works to address the time-constraint, accuracy, complexity, and other difficulties that come with warehouse item picking. The book covers topics such as grasping and gripper design, vision and other forms of sensing, actuation and robot design, motion planning, optimization, machine learning and artificial intelligence, software engineering, and system integration, among others. Through this book, the authors describe how robot systems are built from the ground up to do a specific task, in this case, item picking in a warehouse setting. The compiled works come from the best robotics research institutions and companies globally.
This book presents original contributions on the theories and practices of emerging Internet, data and web technologies and their applicability in businesses, engineering and academia. The Internet has become the most proliferative platform for emerging large-scale computing paradigms. Among them, data and web technologies are two most prominent paradigms, and manifest in a variety of forms such as data centers, cloud computing, mobile cloud, mobile web services and so on. Together, these technologies form a digital ecosystem based on the data cycle, from capturing to processing, analysis and visualization. The investigation of various research and development issues in this digital ecosystem is made all the more important by the ever-increasing needs of real-life applications, which involve storing and processing large amounts of data. As a key feature, the book addresses advances in the life-cycle exploitation of data generated from the digital ecosystem, and data technologies that create value for businesses, moving toward a collective intelligence approach. Given its scope, the book offers a valuable reference guide for researchers, software developers, practitioners and students interested in the field of data and web technologies.

In recent years, sport has attracted considerable attention as an effective means of combating such local and global issues as war and conflict, poverty, ethnic reconciliation, and gender conflicts. Sport has been shown to be an effective tool or triggering device compared to the other development sectors, especially when donors can apply grassroots activities to the development contexts in thoughtful and continuing ways. This book fills the gap in this critical topic- that will only grow more important as governments, sport and national organizations direct more funds towards forms of play, PE and sport in the hope that these will represent one way of coalescing communities and assist development and peace. This volume is part of the early serious and systematic inquiry into this issue. In addition to showcasing some of the most recognized names in the research subfield of Sociology of Sport, the book draws upon an international roster of global contributors. The empirical focus of the chapters spans from Africa to Asia. Further, these chapters represent three groups - theory and philosophy, empirical research in actual 'on-the-ground' case studies, and those using circumspection and care to construct cases regarding measurement and evaluation.
