In common with the editor of the first edition, my own personal involvement with tin chemistry began when I had the privilege of studying for a PhD degree under the supervision of Professor Alwyn G. Davies FRS at University College London (UCL) almost exactly 30 years ago. Then, following 21 years' service with the International Tin Research Institute, it was a great pleasure for me when the wheel turned full circle and, in 1994, Alwyn - now an Emeritus Professor - asked me to return to UCL as an Honorary Research Fellow in the Chemistry Department. One of my first tasks was when I received an invitation from Blackie A&P to edit the second edition of the Chemistry of Tin, which I was delighted to accept, since it enabled me to continued my life-long interest in tin chemistry and to maintain contact with my former friends and colleagues, many of whom have contributed to this book.

This accessible introduction to the exciting field of contemporary
Spanish visual culture is the first of its kind. It combines
cultural context with close readings of particular works.
Going beyond the field of cinema, in which Spain is an
acknowledged leader, Smith examines new developments in television,
where original and innovative series drama has recently blossomed.
He also explores Spanish fashion, where 'classic' design is married
to high tech production and distribution.
Two aspects of Spanish visual art are considered: the career of
Miquel Barcelo, global artist and pure painter, and Basque
conceptual art which, through photography and installation, puts a
new spin on international questions of gender and sexuality. Finally, Contemporary Spanish Culture examines Catalan
independent cinema and the most recent work of Spain's best known
director, Pedro Almodovar, who has resurrected a genre long
considered dead: the art movie.
This innovative new book provides an ideal introduction for undergraduates and will be essential reading for those working in Hispanic studies, cultural studies, and film.
Geographical works embracing the whole of Canada, few in number until recently, have become more numerous during the last few years. This series is original in its purpose of the re-evaluating the regional geography of Canada. In the hope of discovering the dynamic trends and the processes responsible for them, the editors and authors of these volumes have sought to interpret the main characteristics and unique attributes of the various regions, rather than follow a strictly inventorial approach. These studies should contribute to a better understanding, among scholars, students, and the people of Canada, of the geography of their land.
