A stunning new insight into how the most crucial lesson you can learn in today’s challenging business environment is how to change the fundamentals of what you do, rather than carry on fighting a battle that is already lost.
The near destruction of the music industry at the hands of online piracy and its subsequent recovery on the backs of digital streaming platforms is more than just the biggest story of disruption and reinvention of the digital age. It is also a trove of insights on how to confront the metamorphosis we are all facing in dealing with the Covid-19 era, as accelerating tech and economic changes reshape our work, our play and our very minds.
Will Page, Spotify’s first chief economist, extrapolates music’s journey into eight guiding principles for pivoting through the ubiquitous disruption in nearly all industries. Expect the unexpected with transferable lessons coming from Starbucks, Tupperware and even Groucho Marx. The notion of 'Tarzan Economics' ties these principles together: a framework for recognising and acting on disruption, by letting go of the old vine and grabbing onto the new. Page joyfully brings these insights to life and provides a guide for knowing not just how to grab the new vine, but when. He assesses the new dynamics of the 'long tail', identifies friends and foes in the battle for scarce attention and provides a practical tool for discovering the right role for each of us to succeed in this new modern world.
As we emerge from the unprecedented disruption of a global pandemic, Pivot shows all of us - individuals, organisations and institutions - that if the vine we are holding onto is withering, we can have confidence to reach out for a new one in 2023 and beyond.
From the author of the phenomenal bestseller The Keeper of Stories,
comes the next uplifting story of how the most unexpected
friendships are forged in the most unlikely of places . . . Jo
Sorsby knows she is hiding from her past when she agrees to look
after her uncle’s stationery shop. Spending her days glimpsing
the lives of her customers as they experiment with what’s on
offer is a welcome distraction from the life she has left behind.
Yet far from home, Jo feels adrift… But when she meets Ruth, a
vicar running from a secret, and Malcolm, a septuagenarian
struggling to write his first book, she realises that she isn’t
alone. It’s the beginning of a friendship that can transform
Jo’s life… if only she can let them in. Readers adore Sally
Page: ‘Oh my giddy aunt what an amazing book…absolutely adored
it from start to finish’ Jeannie ‘Not what I was expecting at
all…loved the way it ended’ Julie ‘An absolutely wonderful,
unputdownable book full of delightful characters’ Sue ‘What a
wonderful idea for a book…A joy to read’ Angela ‘Beautiful
story…I loved every minute of reading it!’ Rubie ‘I felt
every emotion reading this, and Janice was delightful – I was
rooting for her the whole time’ Kate ‘An engaging debut
featuring an unexpectedly heartbreaking story’ Sarah
Polymeric materials have been and continue to be a focus of
research in the development of materials for energy conversion,
storage and delivery applications (fuel cells, batteries,
photovoltaics, capacitors, etc.). Significant growth in this field
started in the early 1990s and has continued to grow quite
substantially since that time. Polymeric materials now have a
prominent place in energy research.
For polymers, particularly polyelectrolytes, being used in fuel
cell and battery applications, the importance of chain
microstructure, chain dynamics, and nanoscale morphology on the
overall performance characteristics of these materials cannot be
overstated. As further advancements are made in polymer chemistry,
control of nanostructure and characterization, there is a necessity
for organized forums that foster cross-fertilization of knowledge
and ideas between experts in polymer chemistry, chemical
engineering, and polymer physics. This volume is the result of such
a forum.
Most of the chapters in this book are based on a cross-section of
the oral presentations in a symposium on Polymers for Energy
Storage and Delivery held in March of 2011 as part of the 241st ACS
National Meeting & Exposition (Anaheim, CA). The book contains
17 chapters presented in two parts. Part one focuses on polymers
for battery applications and will cover theory and modeling, novel
materials, and materials characterization. Professor Janna Maranas
has provided an excellent review of the current state of
understanding in polyelectrolytes as ion conductors in batteries.
Part two will focus on polymers for fuel cells and will cover novel
materials, transport, and materials characterization with a brief
introduction into the history of polyelectrolytes for fuel cells
and the classes of materials being pursued. Realizing the common
role that nanostructure plays in both battery and fuel cell
applications, Professor Moon Jeong Park and coworkers have also
contributed a chapter demonstrating the role of nanostructured
polyelectrolyte systems in energy storage and delivery. In
addition, the editors are pleased to have a chapter-contributed by
Professor Howard Wang and staff scientists of the NIST Center for
Neutron Research-on the most state-of-art, in-situ neutron methods
for studying lithium ion batteries.

desired, is prepared to abandon her search for love for another
year, she meets an attractive veterinarian by the name of Brendan
(Page). Things appear to be looking up for Avery until she
discovers that Brendan blames her and her blog for the abrupt end
of his last relationship. Even worse, it turns out that Brendan is
the person spouting vitriol at Avery's expense. Will they be able

'Hot buttered-toast-and-tea feelgood fiction' THE TIMES 'Libby Page
is a literary burst of sunshine' VERONICA HENRY Everybody needs
saving sometimes... For Kate, having a newborn baby means she is
almost never alone. But that doesn't mean she isn't lonely. The
move from London to Somerset with her husband Jay was supposed be
the start of an exciting new chapter. But sometimes she can't help
but wonder if she turned the pages too soon... Phoebe Harrison
needs a break. As a mental health nurse serving her community, the
wellbeing of her patients has always come before her own. But
there's only so long she can pour from an empty cup. Looking for a
lifeline, Kate and Phoebe find one in their local river swimming
group. But what they didn't expect was the buoying friendship they
would find in each other. For fans of THE LIDO, THE LIFELINE is the

Seasonal British comedy sequel starring David Tennant, Pam Ferris
and Jessica Hynes. Neurotic newly-qualified teacher Mr Peterson
(Tennant) starts a new job at an under-achieving school and soon
finds himself juggling his heavy workload with a wildly
unconventional classroom assistant, a group of delinquent kids and
his own very pregnant wife. The pressure mounts still further when
he somehow becomes embroiled in a madcap plan to enter the National
'Song for Christmas' Competition and finds himself embarking on the
craziest road trip of his life.
Part of the How to Help series of books exploring issues commonly
faced by children and young people at home and in school, Autism
Spectrum Disorder (ASD) offers a complete introduction to this
complex and often confusing topic. A lack of clarity can arise for
many reasons, including the broad spectrum of characteristics and
symptoms that can be represented within an ASD diagnosis (ranging
from the very severe, requiring 24-hour monitoring, to the mild but
no less important, where the individual can be successfully
included in education and society), and the many competing
interventions and treatments all purporting to be successful.
Arguing that every child and young person with autism can and
should lead an inclusive and fulfilling life, Jo-Ann Page and Gavin
Reid show that it is up to us as adults to ensure that this is
possible - and show how parents, carers, teachers and schools can
help.
You won't have to get up in the middle of the night to sow your
carrots! Country folk - and repeat buyers of this book, which has
been published annually for over thirty years - know that planning
their work in harmony with the rhythms of the moon produces better
crops. It's that easy. They get higher yields and better flavour in
vegetables. Flowers produce stronger displays and heightened
colour. This gardening guide computes everything you need to know
about the daily influence of the moon and the planets. With its
full 15-month daily calendar, it creates an essential timetable for
the year ahead and is also a fine means of self-discipline for keen
gardeners.
