Thirty-nine-year-old Thando is living in total denial about her drinking. On the surface her life looks aspirational – great job, apartment, snazzy car. But behind the façade she harbours a shameful secret – she can’t control her drinking.
To the outside world she's just having fun, but alone at home, she’s knocking back a bottle or two a night to ‘unwind’. It’s not until she takes a sabbatical from booze, that she's forced to confront her crippling anxiety.
Intimate, brave and inspiring.
During the 10 years since publication of the first edition of
this comprehensive volume, progress in neuroscience has had direct
and immediate clinical implications in both the pharmacological and
psychological arenas in the treatment of one of psychiatry's
greatest challenges: obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
This second edition reflects this progress. Chapters include the
latest data on the use of all current OCD treatments in special
populations, such as the strictly religious, the elderly, children,
adolescents, and those who are pregnant, and all are illustrated
with new and updated detailed case histories that highlight
specific treatments and diagnostic issues. This edition includes -
Three new pharmacotherapy chapters that discuss the use of
sertraline, paroxetine, and citalopram and updates of the original
edition's chapters on clomipramine, fluoxetine, and fluvoxamine- An
expanded chapter on children and adolescents that emphasizes the
benefits of early detection, and describes the latest findings in
immunological research with particular regard to pediatric
autoimmune neurologic disorders associated with streptococcal
infection (PANDAS) - An expanded behavioral therapy chapter that
encompasses not only detailed treatment plans for both individuals
and groups (including multifamily groups) but also up-to-date
empirical data to support their use- The latest data on compounds
for treating OCD (twice the number of compounds are now available
than when the first edition was published), including details of
the dramatic increase in our knowledge of pharmacokinetics,
receptor profiles, interactions, and comparative efficacy during
the past decade- The clinical implications of today's broadened
definition of OCD, which includes disorders such as body dysmorphic
disorder, trichotillomania, pathological gambling, and Tourette's
syndrome, and the complicated diagnostic and management issues --
with a call for innovative treatment approaches -- raised by the
intimate relationship between OCD and schizophrenia (15% of
patients with schizophrenia also have OCD)- A multidisciplinary
approach to treatment-resistant OCD, which occurs in approximately
30% of all cases, suggesting ways to combine our current knowledge
and focus it on the treatment of a specific individual
With their extensive clinical and research experience in
treating OCD, the distinguished contributors to this volume provide
clinicians with the latest, most reliable data so that they may
better match treatment approaches with each patient's unique needs.
Of enduring practical value, this updated "how to" manual will be
welcomed by all clinicians treating patients with OCD, as well as
students and other interested clinicians, as an effective tool in
the ongoing challenge to understand and treat this frustrating
disorder.

Stuttgart Germany - 1938 The beautiful Gertrude Von Busch is forced
to marry a man she doesn't love and leave behind the man she does.
It is for her own protection as Hitler's rage takes over Germany -
destroying all that is good including her own parents. Her two baby
girls born seven years apart are the product of her first love,
Boris who cannot save her from the savagery of her husband who
sells her babies and murders Gertrude. Neither daughter knows of
the existence of the other or of their true beginnings. They are
raised in Paris by wealthy parents who come together twenty five
years later to help Boris salvage what is left of his life and help
Silke recover from the death of her own child, the product of her
marriage to the brother she never knew she had.
Almendro is a true story about the life of the author and how so
much can go so wrong in a short time. We all have dreams but how
many come to pass? Laura had two. She wanted a good marriage and a
happy home for the two families that tried to blend together to
become one. Her second dream was to live out the Golden Years on an
exotic island in the Caribbean. She got her first wish when she
married Jim but he wasn't what she wanted to believe he was. Laura
got her second wish when the couple moved to that exotic island
when they retired. It was here where the bottom fell out of both
dreams and for Laura the struggle to survive began. Jim met Sheila
before Laura ran off to Dominica with Gavin. Sheila wanted Laura's
life and everything she and Jim owned and Jim wanted to destroy his
wife in any way he could. He joined forces with the psychopathic
woman who betrayed him from the beginning but he was too blinded by
need and revenge to see it. When Sheila realized Laura was a threat
to her plan, there was only one choice to make. Get rid of Laura.
Forced to live in isolation in fear for her life, Laura lived alone
in the jungles of Dominica until she met the man who captured her
heart and saved her life in many ways. The Afro Caribbean people
took her into their care and taught her what she needed to know and
gave her the strength to carry on. When Jim died mysteriously,
Laura didn't have to ask how or why. She put on her armour, picked
up her sword and returned to the island she once called home. She
declared war on Sheila and was willing to die to keep her dream.

In recent decades, American universities have begun to tout the
“diversity†of their faculty and student bodies. But what kinds
of diversity are being championed in their admissions and hiring
practices, and what kinds are being neglected? Is diversity enough
to solve the structural inequalities that plague our universities?
And how might we articulate the value of diversity in the first
place?  Transforming the Academy begins to answer
these questions by bringing together a mix of faculty—male and
female, cisgender and queer, immigrant and native-born, tenured and
contingent, white, black, multiracial, and other—from public and
private universities across the United States. Whether describing
contentious power dynamics within their classrooms or recounting
protests that occurred on their campuses, the book’s contributors
offer bracingly honest inside accounts of both the conflicts and
the learning experiences that can emerge from being a
representative of diversity.  The collection’s
authors are united by their commitment to an ideal of the American
university as an inclusive and transformative space, one where
students from all backgrounds can simultaneously feel
intellectually challenged and personally supported.
Yet Transforming the Academy also offers a wide range
of perspectives on how to best achieve these goals, a diversity of
opinion that is sure to inspire lively debate. Â

Toba Tucker's expressive portraits honouring Pueblo artists were
made over a two-and-a-half year sojourn in the Southwest. These
photographs form a record for history and art at the end of the
twentieth century and portray Tucker's interest in the individuals
and families who pass their artistic traditions from one generation
to the next. The portraits reflect the sense of belonging that she
so evidently found among the people who welcomed her into their
homes, and they attest to her abiding respect and deep appreciation
for the native traditions that continue to carry the Pueblo spirit.
Toba Pato Tucker, who has photographed the Navajo and Zuni Indians
of the Southwest, the Shinnecock and Montauk Indians on eastern
Long Island and the Pueblo people of New Mexico and Arizona, now
creates a record of the Onondaga, the Native people who have
inhabited the hills of central New York for fifteen thousand years.
Using a simple black backdrop and available daylight, her
portraits show the timeless, contemplative images that reify the
spirit that has maintained the Onondaga for centuries. Of her work
Tucker has said, "Native Americans are an ancient people striving
to retain their traditional way of life and integrity while
confronting modern society and the dominant culture. I want to
record them, for history and for art, at the end of the twentieth
century."

Countless accolades have been bestowed upon King s X over the
years, and, since their formation in 1980, they have grown to
become one of the most universally admired in hard rock and heavy
metal. But their story is one of many ups and downs, trials and
tribulations, and periods of good and bad luck. This authorized
biography examines and explores all aspects of their history, both
personally and professionally. Comprised of extensive interviews
conducted by author and longtime King s X fan Greg Prato, King s X
allows the band s three members singer/bassist Doug Pinnick,
guitarist Ty Tabor, and drummer Jerry Gaskill to tell their full
story for the first time. It also opens the floor to friends and
collaborators, plus some of the many top rock names who are also
fans of the band, including Pearl Jam s Jeff Ament, The Police s
Andy Summers, Smashing Pumpkins Billy Corgan, Soundgarden s Kim
Thayil, Pantera s Rex Brown, Motley Crue s Mick Mars, and many
more. In addition, King s X explores the stories behind every
single song the band have recorded over the years, while also
detailing the creation of each of their twelve albums and offering
insight into the influence of religion on their work. It also
features memories of the band s tours with some of rock s biggest
names including AC/DC, Pearl Jam, and Motley Crue and the events
that led to their show-stopping performance at the mammoth
Woodstock 94 festival. Packed full of rare and never-before-seen
photographs from throughout their career, King s X: The Oral
History is the definitive companion to the band and their music.
I love this book! Every teacher in the universe should have a copy
- Bestselling author Mem Fox. Mrs. Spitzer is a wise teacher who
knows many things. She knows about gardens. She knows about
children. She knows how similar they are, and how both will
flourish if tended lovingly. There are many remarkable teachers
like Mrs. Spitzer in the world, and Edith Pattou's simple, moving
story along with Tricia Tusa's inspired, whimsical illustrations
celebrate all they do, year after year, to help our children grow
and blossom.
The Perfect Siesta author Pato Mena will make you laugh with this
new wacky story! “Wait… A costume party thrown by a mole?! But
they can’t see!â€, you may say. Yet Wonder Mole throws legendary
costume parties. You wanna know how? Have you ever wondered how do
moles manage to dress up for costume parties? The answer is…
SCENT COSTUMES! However, this also entrails some risks. Say, for
example, if a sneaky weasel would sneak into the party…! Find out
how this uproar of a party ends! Fabulous illustrations, in bright,
warm colors, complement this funny story. This Chilean
author/illustrator bears watching! ~Youth Services Book Review
