Wild about Maine (Paperback): Paul Freeman Thibodeau Wild about Maine (Paperback)
Paul Freeman Thibodeau
R365 Discovery Miles 3 650 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Local streams in the Lincoln, Maine, area set the stage for what would become author Paul Freeman Thibodeau's lifelong passion. His father, Paul Francis Thibodeau, taught him the rudiments of fly fishing. Later in life, with increased skills and knowledge, the younger Thibodeau ventured farther afield in Penobscot County in hopes of catching larger salmon, trout, and smallmouth bass.

In "Wild about Maine," he shares tales that paint an image of the outdoorsmen, the breathtaking landscape with Mount Katahdin in the background, and the challenges of fishing in the pristine waters of the Penobscot River. This collection of stories includes anecdotes about the interaction between fishermen, the prolific fish, and the area's abundant wildlife. In "The Taking of Vinegar Hill," Thibodeau tells of searching for a secret trout pond with an old friend. "The Never-Ending Mouse Tale" narrates a lighthearted story of sharing one's home with an unwanted furry critter.

Inspiring, educational, and entertaining, "Wild about Maine" provides a look at modern-day "Mainers," the state's wild creatures, and the wilderness they share.

The Chapel of Her Dreams (Paperback): Paul Freeman The Chapel of Her Dreams (Paperback)
Paul Freeman
R356 Discovery Miles 3 560 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Kate's recurring dream of an ancient Chapel on an island is becoming longer and more detailed with each night. Her husband, Phil, decides it's time for a break. Kate has hopes that "Getting off life's Motorway" might also help her relax and become pregnant - a subject she has not yet discussed with Phil. They combine the trip with research into his family tree, which he has been postponing due to pressure at work.
Their arrival in the village of Kilronan causes great interest, although initially they encounter a degree of suspicion. Phil learns that he may be entitled to claim the title of Clan Chieftain ( 'an MacDairmada' ) - and that certain responsibilities go with the title.
Will Phil and Kate use their professional skills as photographer & commercial artist to resolve an ancient mystery concerning the Clan history? Or will they return to the city, forever leaving behind the chapel of her dreams?
About the Author: Paul Freeman
Born in the Year of the Tiger, Paul's natural curiosity combined with the deep-seated feline need to roam has meant that over the years he's never been able to call any one place home. His wanderlust has led him from one town to another, and even from one country to another.
He has always followed his instincts without question or complaint, and in true cat fashion it seems he has always landed on his feet.
"I can't remember a time when I didn't write - my father claims to possess a story I wrote when I was six, which filled 4 standard school exercise books What I do remember from that time was being told off for doing the Liverpool Echo crossword before he got home from work Perhaps it was the catalyst of breathing the same air as Hans Christian Andersen. While I was living in Denmark, I allowed myself to be persuaded to write for a purpose instead of purely for my own amusement."
Paul has had a short play selected for a performance at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and hopes to one day buy a plot of land (Castle Island on Lough Key, County Roscommon) and rebuild the castle on said island, which used to belong to my ancestors.
Yes, the location of "The Chapel of Her Dreams" is a real place

Season of the Dead (Paperback): Paul Freeman, Gerald Johnston, Sharon Van Orman Season of the Dead (Paperback)
Paul Freeman, Gerald Johnston, Sharon Van Orman
R457 Discovery Miles 4 570 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

"It is said that unto everything there is a season...these are the stories of a group of survivors during the season of the dead." Four individuals fight to survive as the zombie apocalypse crashes over the world in a wave of terror and destruction. Color, creed, and social standing mean nothing as the virus infects millions across the planet. Sharon: a zoologist from Nebraska, USA, has worked with the virus, and has seen the effects on the human mind. She knows more about the virus than nearly anybody alive, and far more than she wants to. Gerry: from Ontario, Canada, he gets his first taste of the virus from inside a prison cell. Locked up after an anti-government riot, his prison guard transforms before his eyes into a flesh craving zombie. Lucia: a chemist from Pittsburgh, USA, flees from a furry convention dressed as a giant squirrel, and escapes from the city in a Fed-Ex van. She's a girl who knows when to run and when to fight. Paul: thinks he can sit out the apocalypse in his apartment block in Dublin, Ireland, until the virus comes to visit, bursting his bubble and leaving him with no choice but to face reality or perish. All four begin perilous journeys in mind and body as they face daily trials to survive: Four stories, four different parts of the world, one apocalypse
