Darby) is devastated when his girlfriend, Susan (Faye Smith),

out another side of Doug - one even he may not have been aware of -
and he gradually begins to develop a new perspective on life. Even
better, through the duck Doug meets Holly (Sally Hawkins), a vet,
and the pair hit it off. But, with the return of Susan to the
scene, will their fledgling relationship take off?

This Critical Companion to the work of one of Ireland's most famous
and controversial playwrights, Sean O'Casey, is the first major
study of the playwright's work to consider his oeuvre and the
archival material that has appeared during the last decade.
Published ahead of the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising in
Ireland with which O'Casey's most famous plays are associated, it
provides a clear and detailed study of the work in context and
performance. James Moran shows that O'Casey not only remains the
most performed playwright at Ireland's national theatre, but that
the playwright was also one of the most controversial and divisive
literary figures, whose work caused riots and who alienated many of
his supporters. Since the start of the 'Troubles' in the North of
Ireland, his work has been associated with Irish historical
revisionism, and has become the subject of debate about Irish
nationalism and revolutionary history. Moran's admirably clear
study considers the writer's plays, autobiographical writings and
essays, paying special attention to the Dublin trilogy, The Shadow
of a Gunman, Juno and the Paycock, and The Plough and the Stars. It
considers the work produced in exile, during the war and the late
plays. The Companion also features a number of interviews and
essays by other leading scholars and practitioners, including Garry
Hynes, Victor Merriman and Paul Murphy, which provide further
critical perspectives on the work.
For undergraduate and graduate courses in Logistics. A
market-leading text, Contemporary Logistics eplores modern
logistics from a managerial perspective. These are characterised by
geopolitical tensions in parts of the world, steadily increasing
trade, supply chain vulnerabilities caused by severe natural
disasters, and an unabated pace of technological advancement. In
it, readers see theory come to life through timely, practical, and
eciting coverage of logistics fundamentals, and challenges and
opportunities for logistics managers in today's dynamic global
landscape. This edition provides the most up-to-date insights and
perspectives sourced from reviewers, adopters, and other
stakeholders.
Both academia and the real world are showing a vastly increased
interest in international logistics. Although this book covers the
entire topic, it may not contain sufficient detail to answer all
questions. The topic-and the challenge is much larger than any
single book can cover! A number of people helped us, and their
assistance should be recognized. They include Robert L. Argentieri,
Eunice Coleman, Patricia J. Daugherty, Robert Derbin, Robert
Hannus, Ken Knox, Douglas Long, Eugene L. Magad, Dale S. Rogers,
Robert Rouse, John Silvey, and Clyde Kenneth Walter. This book is
designed for both the business world and the classroom. A separate
Instructor's Manual has been prepared and may be requested on
school letterhead from Chapman & Hall. International Logistics
1 Introduction This book is about international logistics and the
international logistics system. International means that it will
deal with transactions involving indi viduals or firms in more than
one nation. Logistics means the organized movement of goods, ser
vices, and, sometimes, people. Logistics was originally a military
term. For exam ple, in author Tom Clancy's novel, Red Storm Rising,
Russian General Alekseyev thought to himself about a battlefield
situation: "The tactics ... no, amateurs dis cuss tactics.
Professional soldiers study logistics. ,,1 When one speaks of the
intema tionallogistics system, he means that huge array of
carriers, forwarders, bankers, traders, and so on that facilitate
international transactions, trades, and movements of goods and
services. Communications are important, and a logistics system in
cludes whatever communication capability it needs.
Volumes in the Proven Synthetic Methods Series address the concerns
many chemists have regarding irreproducibility of synthetic
protocols, lack of identification and characterization data for new
compounds, and inflated yields reported in chemical
communications-trends that have recently become a serious problem.
Featuring contributions from world-renowned experts and overseen by
a highly respected series editor, Carbohydrate Chemistry: Proven
Synthetic Methods, Volume 4 compiles reliable synthetic methods and
protocols for the preparation of intermediates for carbohydrate
synthesis or other uses in the glycosciences. Exploring
carbohydrate chemistry from both the academic and industrial points
of view, this unique resource brings together useful information
into one convenient reference. The series is unique among other
synthetic literature in the carbohydrate field in that, to ensure
reproducibility, an independent checker has verified the
experimental parts involved by repeating the protocols or using the
methods. The book includes new or more detailed versions of
previously published protocols as well as those published in not
readily available journals. The essential characteristics of the
protocols presented are reliability, updated characterization data
for newly synthesized substances and the expectation of wide
utility in the carbohydrate field. The protocols presented will be
of wide use to a broad range of readers in the carbohydrate field
and the life sciences, including undergraduates taking carbohydrate
workshops.

"This is a book I wish I'd written. It's brilliantly researched,
full of detail and illuminating..." --Jake Adelstein, author of
Tokyo Ice Uncover the shocking world of the Japanese courtroom. In
a country where nearly all defendants plead guilty, the interesting
part is what happens between the plea and the sentencing. In True
Crime Japan, journalist and longtime resident of Japan Paul Murphy
delves into a year's worth of criminal court cases in Matsumoto, a
city located 140 miles to the west of Tokyo. The nine defendants in
these cases range from ruthless mobsters to average citizens with a
variety of methods and motives. Using court documents and
interviews, Murphy makes a point of including the perspectives of
the defendants, as well as those of their families, neighbors, and
lawyers. He explores not only the motives of offenders but the
culture of crime and punishment in Japan. The nine cases include:
"Late in Life" -- A wealthy octogenarian is put in jail for
stealing fried chicken "Mama's Boys" -- A disbelieving family
unveils their son's role as a yakuza gangster. "Mother Killers" --
A middle-aged carpenter beats his 91-year old mother to death and
goes to work the following day, leaving the body for his wife to
find. True Crime Japan provides an unusual lens through which to
view Japanese society and its emphasis on honor, shame, and
conformity. Murphy's in-depth analysis of the court system reveals
Japan to be, perhaps surprisingly, a land of true individuals.

Born into a traditional Welsh valley community, Paul Murphy has
been a member of the Labour Party for more than 55 years. In this
book, he describes how the socialist beliefs of that community, and
of his parents especially, helped to develop his own very early
political consciousness. After three years studying at Oxford, and
alongside work as a lecturer in History and Government, he went on
to serve on his local council before succeeding Leo Abse in 1987 as
MP for his home constituency Torfaen. His time in government from
1997 onwards included seven years as Secretary of State for Wales
and for Northern Ireland, in the Cabinets of Tony Blair and Gordon
Brown, and the book provides unique insights into Murphy's leading
role at times of major constitutional change, including the pivotal
part he played as Northern Ireland Minister under Mo Mowlam in
negotiating the Good Friday Agreement. - 'During the weeks leading
up to the referendum, I travelled the length and breadth of
Northern Ireland talking to local and regional newspapers, and
presenting the case for a 'Yes' vote.' Read an extract of Paul
Murphy's autobiography here -

As violence sweeps the city, a couple escape to an isolated Nordic
research facility. On the brink of discovering a cure for the
devastating disease, cracks in their marriage start to appear. The
outside world grows increasingly hostile and the couple are forced
to choose between conflicting allegiances. As they battle for power
and truth, the future of the human race is at stake. Suffused with
Norse mythology, Paul Murphy's play Valhalla depicts a world where
the boundaries of scientific research and the endurance of human
love are stretched to their limits. It was joint winner of the
inaugural Theatre503 Playwriting Award, and premiered at
Theatre503, London, in 2015.
