Advanced Lightweight Multifunctional Materials presents the current
state-of-the-art on multifunctional materials research, focusing on
different morphologies and their preparation and applications. The
book emphasizes recent advances on these types of materials as well
as their application. Chapters cover porous multifunctional
materials, thermochromic and thermoelectric materials, shape memory
materials, piezoelectric multifunctional materials, electrochromic
and electrorheological, soft materials, magnetic and photochromic
materials, and more. The book will be a valuable reference resource
for academic researchers and industrial engineers working in the
design and manufacture of multifunctional materials, composites and
nanocomposites.
This book contains an edited selection of the papers accepted for
presentation and discussion at the first International Symposium on
Qualitative Research (ISQR2016), held in Porto, Portugal, July
12th-14th, 2016. The book and the symposium features the four main
application fields Education, Health, Social Sciences and
Engineering and Technology and seven main subjects: Rationale and
Paradigms of Qualitative Research (theoretical studies, critical
reflection about epistemological dimensions, ontological and
axiological); Systematization of approaches with Qualitative
Studies (literature review, integrating results, aggregation
studies, meta -analysis, meta- analysis of qualitative meta-
synthesis, meta- ethnography); Qualitative and Mixed Methods
Research (emphasis in research processes that build on mixed
methodologies but with priority to qualitative approaches); Data
Analysis Types (content analysis , discourse analysis , thematic
analysis , narrative analysis , etc.); Innovative processes of
Qualitative Data Analysis (design analysis, articulation and
triangulation of different sources of data - images, audio, video);
Qualitative Research in Web Context (eResearch, virtual
ethnography, interaction analysis , latent corpus on the internet,
etc.); Qualitative Analysis with Support of Specific Software
(usability studies, user experience, the impact of software on the
quality of research.
Maybe the Global Village metaphor has never been more accurate than
it is today, where societies join forces in the fight against the
COVID 19 pandemic, in a global coordinated effort, possibly never
tested before in the known history of Humankind. Although we are
sure that in the past some other shared demands have united the
different peoples of the world, this has never been so strongly
necessary, mainly in what the global scientific community is
concerned. This is a fight for the survival of a society. However,
we should not lose sight of what we are fighting for. We fight
together for people. Not just for the abstract value of Human life,
but for life in society as a whole, including its moral and ethical
aspects. The topics of this book are based on this claim, on what
makes it possible. We do not build our lives in a vacuum, or in
distant Invisible Cities, but through a higher value, which
represents physical life in society: the City, built by the
discipline of Urbanism. This book is a spin-off of the
International Research Seminar on Urbanism_SIIU2020. Inspired by
the contents of twelve research seminars, a group of researchers
from the universities of Barcelona, Lisbon and Sao Paulo discuss
the contemporary agenda of research in Urbanism. Following the
conference, a selection of 35 original double-blind peer-reviewed
research papers were brought together with different perspectives
about such an agenda.
The Handbook of Histopathological Practices in Aquatic
Environments: Guide to Histology for Environmental Toxicology
offers readers in aquatic biology and other water-based
environmental sciences a comprehensive resource on histopathology,
which is a key tool in the growing field of ecotoxicology. This
work brings together the necessary knowledge, from sample
preparation, to trait identification, and scoring and data
treatment. Furthermore, with examples from several groups of
organisms (from worms to fish), these practices can be applied
across a wide array of aquatic ecosystems. This book provides a
step-by-step approach to solving the questions researchers
encounter in aquatic biology and related fields.
This book questions the way contemporary innovation processes
develop and become embedded in territories. It analyses recent
developments in territorial systems of production, networks of
innovation and innovative milieus, with regard to the issue of
sustainable development. Drawing on 12 case studies aimed at
fostering sustainable development and conducted by an experienced
team of international scholars, a new conceptual approach to
sustainable innovation is proposed. More broadly, it also
reassesses the development models proposed in the 1980s that
emerged in the context of globalisation, competitiveness and
technological innovation. The book argues that a rethink of
regional development dynamics is necessary in order to properly
consider current sustainable development requirements. A renewed
understanding of the dynamics of actors and anchoring factors is
pursued, clarifying the role of territories in the light of
sustainable development demands and globalization processes. A new
typology of organizational forms of sustainable innovation is
provided and the traditional concept of 'innovative milieu' is
challenged. The contributions call for a rethink and redesign of
public policies in the fields of sustainable innovation more able
to deal with contemporary realities. Crossing a wide set of
disciplines, this book will appeal to academics, students and
policy makers in the fields of urban studies, regional development,
innovation and sustainable development. Contributors include: P.
