The book sets out a new logic of rules, developed to demonstrate how such a logic can contribute to the clarification of historical questions about social rules. The authors illustrate applications of this new logic in their extensive treatments of a variety of accounts of social changes, analysing in these examples the content of particular social rules and the course of changes in them.
Introduction to Logic and Its Philosophy is an introductory level
textbook which covers symbolic logic as well as many topics in the
philosophy of logic. The book is suitable for either a one or two
semester course at the introductory level but contains material of
interest to a wider audience. The treatment of formal semantics is
quite different from the standard account, as just one example. In
addition, more attention is given to issues in the history of logic
than one generally finds in an introductory textbook. This book
represents the distillation of more than thirty years of the
author's involvement with logic curriculum development and
pedagogy.
Excursions in Philosophical Logic is a monograph which presents an
introduction to modal and many-valued logics in a new and
accessible way. The book then goes on to apply the logical lore to
a study of the skeptical argument in epistemology. Excursions is
suitable for undergraduate and graduate students who have taken a
previous class in formal logic. It also contains much of interest
to researchers in philosophical logic.
