God created people to be well in body, mind, and spirit-a unified
and healthy whole. Christian Paths to Health and Wellness, Third
Edition, helps undergraduate students explore key topics that
affect their health and well-being and apply what they learn to
their daily lives. This updated text examines wellness from a
holistic perspective, delving into how students can thrive in body,
mind, and spirit. Students will learn how to more fully understand
God, themselves, and their purpose in life; have strong and healthy
relationships with others; develop cardiorespiratory fitness,
muscular fitness, and flexibility and mobility; have a healthy
attitude toward their bodies, eat well, and manage weight properly;
understand and apply good sleep hygiene to maximize alertness; and
adopt emotionally healthy habits and deal with stress in a
constructive way. All of this material is based on current research
and is delivered through a faith-based perspective that will help
students apply aspects of behavior modification as they learn how
to take charge of the health of their bodies, minds, and spirits.
Written by highly respected Christian academics, the text includes
chapter objectives, a glossary that defines key terms from each
chapter, and easy-to-read charts that highlight specific
information. This latest edition also features a new web study
guide that makes Christian Paths to Health and Wellness a
particularly valuable and unique resource. For each chapter in the
text, the web study guide supplies readers with an introductory
self-assessment activity on the chapter's topic; application and
learning activities; self-reflection writing prompts to help
students process the chapter's content; suggested websites and
readings for further exploration of the topic; and an interactive
key terms quiz. (The web study guide is included with all new print
books and some ebooks. For ebook formats that don't provide access,
the web study guide is available separately.) Christian Paths to
Health and Wellness offers instructors free access to online
ancillaries, including an instructor guide, a presentation package,
and a test package. "This text," says coauthor Peter Walters, "is a
book about accepting our God-given roles and capacities. Then
empowered by the Spirit of God, we can make healthy choices
regarding our mind, body, and soul. The end result is what ancients
called 'the good life,' current academics call 'human flourishing,'
and what scriptures call 'shalom'." "Personal wellness is often
achieved through mental and physical discipline," adds coauthor
John Byl. "However, it is also important to open yourself to the
power of God through the Holy Spirit. It is written in Bible that
'the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control' (Galatians
5:22-23). Ideas related to the fruit of the Spirit have been woven
through the text, and a couple of chapters offer brief vignettes on
a particular fruit of the Spirit, which demonstrates how the Spirit
heals and makes one well." Christian Paths to Health and Wellness,
Third Edition, will equip students with the knowledge and tools
they need to adopt healthy lifestyles in all aspects of their
lives. And that lifestyle will be pleasing to God and help them
live out their purpose.
The Little History Of Coventry packs into its pages the colour and
incident of a thousand years, telling the story of a city that has
perhaps been overlooked by mainstream historians, but has often
been at the heart of this country's great events. From the testing
ground of the saintly Godiva to fourteenth-century boom town, from
Second World War Blitz victim to the next UK City of Culture,
Coventry has always been an inventive place with an unerring
ability to bounce back from misfortune and make its mark. This is a
truly eye-opening journey through the events and characters that
have shaped its story and made the city one of England's hidden
jewels.
This posthumous edition of Dr Walters' The Text of the Septuagint
provides a valuable working tool for specialists in Hellenistic and
Classical Greek and the Old and New Testaments. The book is
directed first to the practical task of producing a critical
edition of the Septuagint, the Greek version of the Old Testament.
Byzantine and Renaissance scholars both regarded the Greek Old
Testament as belonging to the Church rather than to the heritage of
classical literature which formed the proper object of their
critical endeavours. It was therefore reproduced for centuries in
much the same corrupt form and no complete critical edition was
produced. The present work is a detailed study of the grammatical
corruptions and semitisms in the LXX and is intended to stand as
the prolegomenon to such an edition.
It is widely accepted that there is a relationship between ice
volume and the solar insolation in summer in the northern
hemisphere. The Earth's glacial cycles are driven by cyclic changes
in the Earth's orbital elements. This conclusion is based on the
strong coherence between the approx. 20000 and 40000 year spectral
components of ice volume and insolation (Milankovitch-curve)
records. These frequencies are determined by the variation of the
obliquity of the Earth's axis and by its position relative to the
Earth's orbit around the sun. The degree of sum mer insolation on
the Earth's northern Hemisphere is believed to be relevant to
climate because the North Atlantic is where cold saline water is
being formed. Present day deep water circulation is driven by salt
build-up in due to net evapora tion. In contrast, in the North
Pacific precipitation exceeds evaporation. Thus, deep water
transfers a surplus of salt from the N. Atlantic to the North
Pacific. This surface water delivers also oxygen to the deep ocean.
In contrast, upwelling deep water transfers nutrients from the deep
ocean to the surface water. Today the time of renewal of deep water
is in the order of 1000 years."
This text provides an introduction to ergodic theory suitable for readers knowing basic measure theory. The mathematical prerequisites are summarized in Chapter 0. It is hoped the reader will be ready to tackle research papers after reading the book. The first part of the text is concerned with measure-preserving transformations of probability spaces; recurrence properties, mixing properties, the Birkhoff ergodic theorem, isomorphism and spectral isomorphism, and entropy theory are discussed. Some examples are described and are studied in detail when new properties are presented. The second part of the text focuses on the ergodic theory of continuous transformations of compact metrizable spaces. The family of invariant probability measures for such a transformation is studied and related to properties of the transformation such as topological traitivity, minimality, the size of the non-wandering set, and existence of periodic points. Topological entropy is introduced and related to measure-theoretic entropy. Topological pressure and equilibrium states are discussed, and a proof is given of the variational principle that relates pressure to measure-theoretic entropies. Several examples are studied in detail. The final chapter outlines significant results and some applications of ergodic theory to other branches of mathematics.

The First World War claimed over 995,000 British lives, and its
legacy continues to be remembered today. Great War Britain:
Coventry offers an intimate portrayal of the city and its people
living in the shadow of the 'war to end all wars'. A beautifully
illustrated and highly accessible volume, it describes local
reaction to the outbreak of war; charts the experience of
individuals who enlisted; the changing face of industry; the work
of the many hospitals in the area; the effect of the conflict on
local children; the women who defied convention to play a vital
role on the home front; and concludes with a chapter dedicated to
how the city and its people coped with the transition to life in
peacetime once more. The Great War story of Coventry is told
through the voices of those who were there and is vividly
illustrated through evocative images from the archives of Culture
Coventry.
Felt making was once a major textile industry in Britain. but today
there is virtually no sign that it ever existed. This book
documents the rise of the felt industry from its early beginnings
in the early nineteenth century to its eventual collapse a few
years before the new millenium. However, it is not just a history
it explains in detail how felt was made commercially and what the
precise conditions were to make the best felt. The book also covers
the social aspects of the industry with portraits of the
personalities who shaped the course of events. Much of the content
is original and has never been published before and gives a unique
insight into how felt making was conducted in Britain and the
impact it made on everyday products. Technical aspects of making
felt are dealt with in a way that is accessible to everyone,
without the need for any prior knowledge. The book is aimed at
anyone with an interest in felt, including textile historians, or
craft felt makers who want to commercialise their creations.

"The Story of Coventry" is a long overdue general history of the
city, from earliest times to the present, concluding with comments
on the issues, challenges, and opportunities that the twenty-first
century will present. Neither does the author neglect the city's
architectural development and heritage. Rather than being narrowly
focused on local history, the book will attempt to show, where
appropriate, how what happened had a wider significance. The author
has an eye for a telling anecdote, and this, together with his
lively and easy journalistic style and authoritative research, will
make the book appealing to anyone who is seeking to find out more
about this fascinating and much misunderstood city - whose history
is forever overshadowed by the Second World War.
Geltung.
