The Engineering of Mixed Reality Systems (Hardcover, 2010 ed.): Emmanuel Dubois, Philip Gray, Laurence Nigay The Engineering of Mixed Reality Systems (Hardcover, 2010 ed.)
Emmanuel Dubois, Philip Gray, Laurence Nigay
R6,356 Discovery Miles 63 560 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

An increasing number of systems are exploiting mixed reality but to date there are no systematic methods, techniques or guidelines for the development of such systems. In bringing together contributions on a broad range of mixed reality development issues this book provides a sound theoretical foundation for a disciplined approach to mixed reality engineering.

Divided into three parts: interaction design, software design and implementation, the first section covers generic and specific mixed reality design elements and provides an overview of the design method; Part 2 addresses technical solutions for interaction techniques, development tools and a global view of the mixed reality software development process. The final section contains detailed case studies to highlight the application of mixed reality in a variety of fields including aviation, architecture, emergency management, games, and healthcare.

Building Interactive Systems - Architectures and Tools (Paperback, Edition.): Philip Gray, Roger Took Building Interactive Systems - Architectures and Tools (Paperback, Edition.)

Architectures and tools are two important considerations in the construction of interactive computer systems. The former is concerned with the optimal structural organisation of systems and the latter with the effective support of the design and management of user interfaces. They are regarded as the areas of research most likely to contribute to the development of existing interactive systems, in particular by providing improved architectures capable of supporting new styles of interaction and more sophisticated software tools to improve productivity. This volume combines the proceedings of two workshops held in York and Glasgow which concentrated on architectures and tools respectively. In doing so it addresses the problems of user interface construction from two complementary viewpoints and provides alternative perspectives on many of the central issues. Some of the papers are published in expanded form to provide a more comprehensive coverage of the topics and two additional papers have been included which offer a useful insight into issues raised by the workshops. The papers address formal and theoretical concerns as well as academic and commercial ones. Specific topics covered include novel-input models, architectures for real-time systems and object-oriented user interface tools for X-widgets, NeWS- and Smalltalk-based applications. The papers also include presentations of new tools and architectural designs. Building Interactive Systems: Architectures and Tools provides the most extensive recent account of research into the relationship between architectures and tools in the construction of interactive computer systems and will be of interest to researchers, postgraduate students and software developers.

A Walsingham Rosary is a book of Bible readings, meditations and prayers based on each of the mysteries of the Rosary - 20 in all - with each being set specifically at a different place in the vicinity of the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham. It comes complete with an illustrated guide to praying the Rosary and all the Bible readings and prayers are printed out in full. Line drawings, photographs, maps, directions, and a short description of each site will guide pilgrims round all the places of significance in and around Walsingham. It includes visits to the Anglican, Roman Catholic and Orthodox shrines and the Methodist chapel and so is wholly ecumenical. However, this is first and foremost a book of rosary prayers that can be said anywhere. First published locally in 2000, the Luminous Mysteries have since been added to the Rosary, so the text is expanded and includes visits to further five sites and updated photographs.

Many of them are answered by means of their popular Faith Facts.
