Jason Bateman directs and stars in this comedy which follows Guy Trilby (Bateman), a 40-year-old school dropout who, after finding a loophole, enters The Golden Quill children's spelling bee and befriends Chaitanya (Rohan Chand), one of his fellow competitors. Due to never having graduated beyond the eighth grade, Guy is able to enter himself into the competition - much to the chagrin of contest officials and the parents of competing children. Meanwhile, Jenny Widgeon (Kathryn Hahn), a local news reporter, attempts to find out Guy's real motivations for entering.

On the eve of Britain's handover of Hong Kong, Detective Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) retrieves a valuable haul of art treasures from the villainous Sang (Ken Leung), henchman of crime boss Juntao. Two months later, Lee is called to Los Angeles when Sang kidnaps the daughter of Lee's friend, Han (Tzi Ma). The FBI, angered by Lee's involvement in what they see as their case, insist that he is partnered with their own disgraced detective, the unorthodox James Carter (Chris Tucker). Lee and Carter immediately clash, but the two men gradually develop a grudging respect for each other as they follow a series of clues to Sang's whereabouts.
America's security community is on edge. The Russian premier has just died and been replaced by President Zorkin (Richard Marner) a man whose international ambitions are something of an unknown quantity. Fortunately seasoned CIA agent Jack Ryan (Ben Affleck) is on hand to profile the man in the hot seat. But then the USA's worst fear comes true when Baltimore is struck by a nuclear device during a football game. Ryan's boss Cabot (Morgan Freeman), is convinced this isn't really a Russian strike and dispatches Ryan to uncover the truth before the USA and Russian Federation slide into WWIII. A shadowy terrorist group might just hold the key.
