Piet W.N.M. van Leeuwen, Carmen Claver
R3,205 Discovery Miles 32 050 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This book provides an overview of the latest developments in the field of nanoparticle catalysis. It not only discusses established topics in detail, but also explores several emerging topics. Catalysis with nanoparticles is expanding exponentially and is attracting significant interest due to the many exciting findings being reported. Mastering the synthesis, characterization, stabilization and use of these catalysts offers numerous possibilities that far exceed those of classic heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysis.

Rhodium Catalyzed Hydroformylation (Hardcover, 2002 ed.): Piet W.N.M. van Leeuwen, Carmen Claver Rhodium Catalyzed Hydroformylation (Hardcover, 2002 ed.)
Piet W.N.M. van Leeuwen, Carmen Claver
R4,609 Discovery Miles 46 090 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

In the last decade there have been numerous advances in the area of rhodium-catalyzed hydroformylation, such as highly selective catalysts of industrial importance, new insights into mechanisms of the reaction, very selective asymmetric catalysts, in situ characterization and application to organic synthesis. The views on hydroformylation which still prevail in the current textbooks have become obsolete in several respects. Therefore, it was felt timely to collect these advances in a book.

The book contains a series of chapters discussing several rhodium systems arranged according to ligand type, including asymmetric ligands, a chapter on applications in organic chemistry, a chapter on modern processes and separations, and a chapter on catalyst preparation and laboratory techniques. This book concentrates on highlights, rather than a concise review mentioning all articles in just one line. The book aims at an audience of advanced students, experts in the field, and scientists from related fields. The didactic approach also makes it useful as a guide for an advanced course.

R4,591 Discovery Miles 45 910 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Homogeneous catalysis plays an important role both in the laboratory and in the industry. Successful applications in industry involve new polymerisation processes with complexes of zirconium and related metals, new carbonylation processes employing palladium and rhodium, ring opening polymerisations, and new enantioselective isomerisation catalysts as in the preparation of menthol. Also in the synthesis of organic compounds in the laboratory highly selective homogeneous catalysts represent an irreplaceable part of the toolbox of the synthetic chemist. Examples of such reactions are cross-coupling (Ni, Pd), nucleophilic substitution of allylpalladium complexes, Heck reactions (Pd), asymmetric epoxidation, Wacker type reactions (Pd), asymmetric hydrogenations (Rh, Ru), reactions of chromium complexes, enantioselective reactions with Lewis acids, reactions with the McMurry reagent, etc. There is hardly any multistep organic synthesis that does not involve one of these metal catalysed reactions. Most of these catalysts have been developed by empiricism. The metal catalysed processes consist of a series of elementary steps which often have been studied in isolation in organometallic chemistry. The knowl- edge of such elementary steps - effect ofligands, anions, coordination number, valence states - has greatly contributed to the development of improved cata- lysts for the reactions mentioned above. In addition to the empirical approach theoretical methods have given support and guidance to the development of improved processes. Often the key steps of a cycle escape from a direct ob- servation and then theoretical contributions are even more wanted.

Homogeneous Catalysis - Understanding the Art (Hardcover, 2004 ed.): Piet W.N.M. van Leeuwen Homogeneous Catalysis - Understanding the Art (Hardcover, 2004 ed.)
Piet W.N.M. van Leeuwen
R6,348 Discovery Miles 63 480 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Homogeneous catalysis using transition metal complexes is an area of research that has grown enormously in recent years. Many amazing catalytic discoveries have been reported by researchers both in industry and in academia.
Homogeneous Catalysis: Understanding the Art gives real insight in the many new and old reactions of importance. It is based on the author's extensive experience in both teaching and industrial practice. Each chapter starts with the basic knowledge and ends with up-to-date concepts.
The focus of this book is on concepts, but many key industrial processes and applications that are important in the laboratory synthesis of organic chemicals are used as examples. The full range of topics is covered, such as fine chemicals, bulk chemicals, polymers, high-tech polymers, pharmaceuticals, but also important techniques and reaction types among other aspects. For a few reactions the process schemes, environmental concerns and safety aspects are included, to encourage catalyst researchers to think about these topics at an early stage of their projects and to communicate with chemical engineers, customers and the end-users.
Homogeneous Catalysis: Understanding the Art provides a balanced overview of the vibrant and growing field of homogeneous catalysis to chemists trained in different disciplines and to graduate students who take catalysis as a main or secondary subject. This book is an invaluable tool for practising professionals and academia, including:

  • Chemists in academia with an inorganic, organic, catalytic, etc., chemistry background;
  • PhD-students in these fields, and advanced students;
  • Research Institutes of Petrochemical industries;
  • Fine-chemical industries;
  • Pharmaceutical industries;
  • Chemical Laboratories of Universities for Organic, Industrial, Inorganic, and Physical Chemistry, and Catalysis;
  • Graduate schools.

Currently, there is no other book available that gives insight into so many reactions of importance, while the field of homogeneous catalysis is becoming more and more important to organic chemists, industrial chemists, and academia. This book will provide this background to chemists trained in a different discipline and graduate and masters students who take catalysis as a main or secondary topic.

Supramolecular Catalysis Provides a timely and detailed overview of the expanding field of supramolecular catalysis The subdiscpline of supramolecular catalysis has expanded in recent years, benefiting from the development of homogeneous catalysis and supramolecular chemistry. Supramolecular catalysis allows chemists to design custom-tailored metal and organic catalysts by devising non-covalent interactions between the various components of the reaction. Edited by two world-renowned researchers, Supramolecular Catalysis: New Directions and Developments summarizes the most significant developments in the dynamic, interdisciplinary field. Contributions from an international panel of more than forty experts address a broad range of topics covering both organic and metal catalysts, including emergent catalysis by self-replicating molecules, switchable catalysis using allosteric effects, supramolecular helical catalysts, and transition metal catalysis in confined spaces. This authoritative and up-to-date volume: Covers ligand-ligand interactions, assembled multi-component catalysts, ligand-substrate interactions, and supramolecular organocatalysis and non-classical interactions Presents recent work on supramolecular catalysis in water, supramolecular allosteric catalysis, and catalysis promoted by discrete cages, capsules, and other confined environments Highlights current research trends and discusses the future of supramolecular catalysis Includes full references and numerous figures, tables, and color illustrations Supramolecular Catalysis: New Directions and Developments is essential reading for catalytic chemists, complex chemists, biochemists, polymer chemists, spectroscopists, and chemists working with organometallics.
