Three Black women are linked in unexpected ways to the same influential white man in Stockholm as they build their new lives in the most open society run by the most private people.
Successful marketing executive Kemi Adeyemi is lured from the U.S. to Sweden by Jonny von Lundin, CEO of the nation's largest marketing firm, to help fix a PR fiasco involving a racially tone-deaf campaign. A killer at work but a failure in love, Kemi's move is a last-ditch effort to reclaim her social life.
A chance meeting with Jonny in business class en route to the U.S. propels former model-turned-flight-attendant Brittany-Rae Johnson into a life of wealth, luxury, and privilege—a life she's not sure she wants—as the object of his unhealthy obsession.
And refugee Muna Saheed, who lost her entire family, finds a job cleaning the toilets at Jonny's office as she works to establish her residency in Sweden and, more importantly, seeks connection and a place she can call home.
Told through the perspectives of each of the three women, In Every Mirror She's Black is a fast-paced, richly nuanced yet accessible contemporary novel that touches on important social issues of racism, classism, fetishization, and tokenism, and what it means to be a Black woman navigating a white-dominated society.

The Economics of Immigration summarizes the best social science
studying the actual impact of immigration, which is found to be at
odds with popular fears. Greater flows of immigration have the
potential to substantially increase world income and reduce extreme
poverty. Existing evidence indicates that immigration slightly
enhances the wealth of natives born in destination countries while
doing little to harm the job prospects or reduce the wages of most
of the native-born population. Similarly, although a matter of
debate, most credible scholarly estimates of the net fiscal impact
of current migration find only small positive or negative impacts.
Importantly, current generations of immigrants do not appear to be
assimilating more slowly than prior waves. Although the range of
debate on the consequences of immigration is much narrower in
scholarly circles than in the general public, that does not mean
that all social scientists agree on what a desirable immigration
policy embodies. The second half of this book contains three
chapters, each by a social scientist who is knowledgeable of the
scholarship summarized in the first half of the book, which argue
for very different policy immigration policies. One proposes to
significantly cut current levels of immigration. Another suggests
an auction market for immigration permits. The third proposes open
borders. The final chapter surveys the policy opinions of other
immigration experts and explores the factors that lead reasonable
social scientists to disagree on matters of immigration policy.
Welcome aboard the Hankyu Line train!
Come along on a heartwarming, funny, and perfectly cozy voyage with the
charming and relatable passengers—including one dashing dachshund—whose
lives intersect and affect each other on one of Japan’s most romantic
railway lines from international bestselling author Hiro Arikawa.
Between the two beautiful towns of Takarazuka and Nishinomiya, in a
stunning mountainous area of Japan, rattles the Hankyu Line train.
Passengers step on and off, lost in thought, contemplating the tiny
knots of their existence. On the outward journey, we are introduced to
the emotional dilemmas of five characters, and on the return journey
six months later, we watch them find resolutions.
A young man meets the young woman who always happens to borrow a
library book just before he can check it out himself, a woman in a
white bridal dress boards looking inexplicably sad, a university
student heads home after class, a girl prepares to leave her abusive
boyfriend, and an old lady discusses adopting a dog with her
granddaughter.
With stories that crisscross like the railway lines, the Hankyu train
trundles on, propelling the lives and loves of its passengers ever
forward.
The progress in device technologies are surveyed in this volume.
Included are Si/ (Si-Ge) heterojunctions for high-speed integrated
circuits. Schottky-barrier arrays in Si and Si-Ge alloys for
infrared imaging, III-V quantum-well detector structures operated
in the heterodyne mode for high-data-rate communications, and III-V
heterostructures and quantum-wells for infrared transmissions.
The contents of each traveller's heart is a mystery known only to
themselves
Trundling through the scenic countryside of Kyoto and Osaka is the
Hankyu line, a burgundy-coloured electric train that has been carrying
its commuters to their destinations for decades.
Over the course of a single journey in springtime, and the return
journey six months later just as the leaves begin to fall:
- a young man meets the woman who happens to take out the last copy of
the library book he was about to borrow;
- an angry wedding guest dresses in a white gown to upstage the bride;
- a university student leaves home for the first time;
- a twenty-something finally grows the courage to walk away from an
abusive partner
- a widow learns independence, as she and her granddaughter discuss
their new dog.
As the seasons and the landscapes change, passengers jostle and
connect, as this timeless train carries each one forward towards the
person they intend to become.

comedian, podcaster and filmmaker - and exciting new talent in
children's fiction. Many people go their whole lives without
noticing anything that is afoot, amiss, or even untoward; without
ever experiencing that toe-tingling, stomach-twisting sensation
that a mystery is about to unfold. Not Bonnie Montgomery - the
world's best detective. Not that anyone (other than Grampa Banks)
has heard of her... But they might have heard of the great
Montgomery Bonbon, the well-dressed gentleman detective who (apart
from the hat and moustache) looks suspiciously like a 10-year-old
girl. Their newest case: solving the mystery surrounding a highly
suspicious death at the Hornville Museum. Together they'll
interview some dodgy witnesses, scour the scene for clues and -
above all - hope no one notices that Bonnie and Montgomery are
never in the same room at the same time...

Collection of two comedies. In 'No Strings Attached' (2011), when
long-time friends Emma (Natalie Portman) and Adam (Ashton Kutcher)
decide to add a physical dimension to their relationship and move
into 'friends with benefits' territory, they agree to keep things
strictly casual and on a 'no strings' basis. But before long both
of them find things becoming more complicated than planned as those
pesky emotions get in the way. In 'Morning Glory' (2010), a sparky,
ambitious young television producer spies an opportunity to claw
her way up the career ladder when she is offered a job on
'Daybreak', the worst-performing morning chat show in the ratings.
Her decision to hire veteran newscaster Mike Pomeroy (Harrison
Ford) to host the show meets with scepticism from network executive
Jerry (Jeff Goldblum) and co-host Colleen Peck (Diane Keaton), and
with little enthusiasm from Pomeroy himself, who is obliged by his
contract to take this less-than-promising gig. Can Becky overcome
the poor ratings and in-fighting to bring the team together and
transform the show into something to be proud of?
