Three Black women are linked in unexpected ways to the same influential white man in Stockholm as they build their new lives in the most open society run by the most private people.
Successful marketing executive Kemi Adeyemi is lured from the U.S. to Sweden by Jonny von Lundin, CEO of the nation's largest marketing firm, to help fix a PR fiasco involving a racially tone-deaf campaign. A killer at work but a failure in love, Kemi's move is a last-ditch effort to reclaim her social life.
A chance meeting with Jonny in business class en route to the U.S. propels former model-turned-flight-attendant Brittany-Rae Johnson into a life of wealth, luxury, and privilege—a life she's not sure she wants—as the object of his unhealthy obsession.
And refugee Muna Saheed, who lost her entire family, finds a job cleaning the toilets at Jonny's office as she works to establish her residency in Sweden and, more importantly, seeks connection and a place she can call home.
Told through the perspectives of each of the three women, In Every Mirror She's Black is a fast-paced, richly nuanced yet accessible contemporary novel that touches on important social issues of racism, classism, fetishization, and tokenism, and what it means to be a Black woman navigating a white-dominated society.

The Economics of Immigration summarizes the best social science
studying the actual impact of immigration, which is found to be at
odds with popular fears. Greater flows of immigration have the
potential to substantially increase world income and reduce extreme
poverty. Existing evidence indicates that immigration slightly
enhances the wealth of natives born in destination countries while
doing little to harm the job prospects or reduce the wages of most
of the native-born population. Similarly, although a matter of
debate, most credible scholarly estimates of the net fiscal impact
of current migration find only small positive or negative impacts.
Importantly, current generations of immigrants do not appear to be
assimilating more slowly than prior waves. Although the range of
debate on the consequences of immigration is much narrower in
scholarly circles than in the general public, that does not mean
that all social scientists agree on what a desirable immigration
policy embodies. The second half of this book contains three
chapters, each by a social scientist who is knowledgeable of the
scholarship summarized in the first half of the book, which argue
for very different policy immigration policies. One proposes to
significantly cut current levels of immigration. Another suggests
an auction market for immigration permits. The third proposes open
borders. The final chapter surveys the policy opinions of other
immigration experts and explores the factors that lead reasonable
social scientists to disagree on matters of immigration policy.
Thomas Wyatt (1504?-42) may have written the first sonnet in
English. His translation from Plutarch's Moralia was the first
publication of a classical moral essay in English. He introduced
continental forms such as ottava rima to the language, and his
paraphrase of the Penitential Psalms sparked a century of popular
psalm translations. Yet while decades of criticism have centered on
a handful of his best-known poems, many others are poorly
understood, in part because we lack an authoritative edition. This
volume-the first in a planned two-volume collection of Wyatt's
complete works-comprises scholarly editions of 35 letters or
memoranda, Wyatt's Declaration from the Tower and his Defence
speech against treason charges. It also includes the first
scholarly edition of The Quyete of Mynde. Each text is extensively
annotated, each letter has a prefacing headnote, and each grouping
of texts is separately introduced. The recipient of one letter is
identified here for the first time from new archival discoveries.
Two letters of instruction from Henry VIII are included along with
four appendices containing related documents. Biographical entries
(totalling 17,000 words) identify and introduce 64 persons related
to Wyatt's diplomatic service, including every known member of
Wyatt's diplomatic household.
This book breaks new ground in the study of crime and law
enforcement in late medieval England using the reign of Henry V as
a detailed case study. Dr Powell considers the subject on three
levels: legal theory - academic, governmental, and popular thinking
about the nature of law; legal machinery - the framework of courts
and their procedures; and legal practice - the enforcement of the
law in the reign of Henry V. There exists at present no other work
devoted to setting the legal system of this period in its social
and political context. Rejecting the traditional view of late
medieval England as chronically lawless and violent, Dr Powell
emphasizes instead the structural constraints on royal power to
enforce the law, and the King's dependence on the co-operation of
local society for the maintenance of his peace. Public order relied
less on the coercive powers of the courts than the art of political
management and the use of procedures for conciliation and
arbitration at local level.
William Powell wrote The Anarchist Cookbook in 1969 at the age of
nineteen. It included everything from making bombs to brewing LSD
in the bathroom. On publication, it was hailed variously as
"outrageous," "extremely dangerous," "communist," and "the most
irresponsible publishing venture in American history." It also
became an overnight bestseller. Powell's memoir chronicles the
atmosphere of the 1960's counterculture—the Civil Rights Movement
was at its height and the federal government was engaged in a
brutal and entirely unnecessary war in Southeast Asia. The
zeitgeist was radicalization, and the watchword was revolution, and
Powell left an enduring record of his thoughts and anger in the
shape of The Anarchist Cookbook . The Cookbook: Coming of Age in
Turbulent Times portrays Powell's rebellious adolescence, political
radicalization, the publication of the book, the firestorm of
controversy that followed, and how it shadowed his entire life. He
explores his feelings and the lessons learned, and how he went on
to help hundreds of children all over the world in education.

The second instalment in a brilliantly clever, funny and highly
illustrated murder mystery series The most troublesome thing about
being a detective is that it is almost impossible to go on holiday.

her alter-ego, Montgomery Bonbon, something terribly fishy happens
the moment she and Grampa Banks arrive on Odde Island for half-term
– and it's not just the smell of the harbour. There's been a
mysterious death at Leerie Lighthouse, and what everyone assumed
was an accident is setting Bonbon's moustache all a-quiver: a sure
sign that something is Highly Suspicious. When a second death takes
place on the other side of the island, Bonnie is sure the two are
connected. But can she solve this case alone, or will she need
double the detectives to solve double the murder?

A tale of modern Japan and old-fashioned romance. 'Enchanting,
moving and funny in equal measure, this compelling love story is
expertly crafted against a backdrop of modern Japanese culture'
Stylist Tsukiko is in her late 30s and living alone when one night
she happens to meet one of her former high school teachers,
'Sensei', in a bar. He is at least thirty years her senior, retired
and, she presumes, a widower. After this initial encounter, the
pair continue to meet occasionally to share food and drink sake,
and as the seasons pass - from spring cherry blossom to autumnal
mushrooms - Tsukiko and Sensei come to develop a hesitant intimacy
which tilts awkwardly and poignantly into love. Strange Weather in
Tokyo is perfectly constructed, warmly funny and deeply moving.
This edition contains the bonus story, 'Parade', which imagines an
ordinary day in the lives of this unusual couple. 'A dream-like
spell of a novel, full of humour, sadness, warmth and tremendous
subtlety. I read this in one sitting and I think it will haunt me
for a long time' Amy Sackville 'Kawakami transforms an affecting
cross-generational romance into an exquisite poem of time and
mutability.... Delicate and haunting' Independent
