Advances in Streamflow Forecasting: From Traditional to Modern
Approaches covers the three major data-driven approaches of
streamflow forecasting including traditional approach of
statistical and stochastic time-series modelling with their recent
developments, stand-alone data-driven approach such as artificial
intelligence techniques, and modern hybridized approach where
data-driven models are combined with preprocessing methods to
improve the forecast accuracy of streamflows and to reduce the
forecast uncertainties. This book starts by providing the
background information, overview, and advances made in streamflow
forecasting. The overview portrays the progress made in the field
of streamflow forecasting over the decades. Thereafter, chapters
describe theoretical methodology of the different data-driven tools
and techniques used for streamflow forecasting along with case
studies from different parts of the world. Each chapter provides a
flowchart explaining step-by-step methodology followed in applying
the data-driven approach in streamflow forecasting. This book
addresses challenges in forecasting streamflows by abridging the
gaps between theory and practice through amalgamation of
theoretical descriptions of the data-driven techniques and
systematic demonstration of procedures used in applying the
techniques. Language of this book is kept simple to make the
readers understand easily about different techniques and make them
capable enough to straightforward replicate the approach in other
areas of their interest. This book will be vital for hydrologists
when optimizing the water resources system, and to mitigate the
impact of destructive natural disasters such as floods and droughts
by implementing long-term planning (structural and nonstructural
measures), and short-term emergency warning. Moreover, this book
will guide the readers in choosing an appropriate technique for
streamflow forecasting depending upon the given set of conditions.
Management of High Altitude Pathophysiology presents a
comprehensive overview on the various therapeutic practices and
ongoing research relating to the development of more potent and
novel formulations for managing high altitude pathophysiology. It
provides a detailed application of both herbal and non-herbal
therapeutic agents, including their nanoformulations. This
important reference provides benefits to the medical and herbal
scientific communities, doctors treating patients with high
altitude complications, individuals travelling to high altitudes
for recreation or work, and scientists working on future drug
development.
Carcinoma breast is an ancient and elusive disease which has
claimed the lives of many, since time immemorial. It is one of the
most serious problems of clinical and research oncology and till
date, remains the commonest cause of death from cancer in women.
Despite extensive research that has been on-going for decades
throughout the world, the etiopathogenesis of breast cancer still
remains obscure. Various etiological factors have been proposed but
their relevance has not yet been elucidated. The main focus of this
research work has been to delve into the role of one of those risk
factors, i.e., oxidative stress in breast carcinogenesis. Oxidative
stress has been implicated in several human pathologies such as
cardiovascular diseases, neurological diseases and several
malignancies - just to name a few. The question we ask ourselves at
this stage is - "what are the implications of oxidative stress in
breast carcinogenesis?" If oxidative stress really is an important
causative factor of carcinoma breast, this would be a major
breakthrough in the search for a cure for breast cancer since
prevention of oxidative stress would be synonymous to prevention of
breast carcinogenesis.
Diabetes is a worldwide pathology, characterized by a group of
syndromes associated with very high levels of blood sugar.
Pancreatic -cell maintains the blood glucose homeostasis by
secreting insulin. The rise in cytosolic Ca2+ concentration due to
extracellular Ca2+ influx through voltage-gated Ca2+ channels is
the major trigger which stimulates insulin release and acts as a
key regulator for insulin secretion. Ascorbic acid, the most common
antioxidant shares structural similarity with glucose and have
evidences that supplementation of ascorbic acid relieved various
complications of diabetes. MIN6 (Mouse Insulinoma cell line) has
been widely used as a -cell specific cell line which shows glucose
stimulated insulin secretion qualitatively and quantitatively
similar to normal -cells. This study specifically focused on the
role of extracellular calcium and ascorbic acid individually as
well as in association with each other in repairing, reactivation
and rejuvenation of diabetic MIN6 cells first time. This effort
sets up a ground work which can be further explored at molecular
level and clinical trials, which will be helpful in therapeutics
for type II diabetes in future."
Computer Maintenance & Peripherals. Introduction the word
"Computer" comes from the word "Compute." Compute means to
calculate, so computer consider being a calculative device, but
nowadays uses of computer in more than 80% of different areas that
are not related to arithmetic calculations. So, computer is not
merely calculative device. A computer is an electronic device that
manipulating data according to a list of instructions. Computers
take numerous physical forms. Early electronic computers were the
size of a large room, consuming as much power as several hundred
modern personal computers. Today, computers can be made small
enough to fit into a wrist watch and be powered from a watch
battery. Society has come to recognize personal computers and their
portable equivalent, the laptop computer, as icons of the
information age; they are what most people think of as "a
computer." However, the most common form of computer in use today
is by far the embedded computer. Embedded computers are small,
simple devices that are often used to control other devices - for
example; they may be found in machines ranging from fighter
aircraft to industrial robots, digital cameras, and even
Multimedia applications requires QoS based routing methodologies.
Routing is an NP Hard Problem. Hence Artificial Intelligence
techniques will be required to solve such problems. Ant Colony
Optimization can be used to enhance routing using multiple QoS
parameters. ACO is a probabilistic technique for solving
computational problems which can be reduced to finding good paths
through graphs. Each ant is an autonomous agent that constructs a
path. There might be one or more ants concurrently active at the
same time. Ants do not need synchronization. Forward ants move to
good looking neighbor from the current node probabilistically.
Probabilistic choice is biased by pheromone trails previously
deposited and heuristic function. Without heuristics information,
algorithms tend to converge towards initial random solution. In
backward mode, ants lay down pheromone. In ACO pheromone is added
only to arcs belonging to the global best solution. Pheromone
intensity of all the paths decreases with time, called pheromone
evaporation. It helps in unlearning poor quality solution. After
some time, the shortest path has the highest probability.
