This book outlines the various elements involved in ethical
decision-making for nonprofit leaders, and whose rights to
prioritize when facing complex situations. Nonprofit board members
and employees are often placed in difficult situations, with no
single stakeholder and an allegiance to mission statements whose
outcomes can be difficult to measure. While nonprofit charitable
organizations are generally considered more trustworthy than their
counterparts in the public or for-profit sector, when scandals and
wrongdoings are uncovered, they must be dealt with in ethical ways.
Through a case study approach, this book delivers clear ethical
decision-making frameworks and promotes robust reflection on how to
arrive at different decision points and throw light on elements
that are often ignored or assumed. Ultimately, it offers students,
researchers, and managers a practical approach to the ambiguous
question, what is the ethical way?
Based on a conference held at Ohio State University, this volume
focuses on the unique mental health needs of ethnic minorities.
Four sections cover psychopathology; advances in assessment;
advances in treatment; the current state of knowledge including
university, professional, and government roles. Each section
presents an introduction to its theme as well as three papers. The
papers individually relate the section theme to three ethnic
groups: Black, Hispanic, and Asian Americans. Distinguished by its
developmental as well as clinical orientation, this graduate level
textbook is also an excellent reference for professionals in the
fields of mental health, social work, education, and medicine.
The field of Minority Mental Health promises to produce research
which will promote the welfare of ethnic minorities and contribute
to the understanding of nonminorities. Toward this goal, the
editors and contributors of "Mental Health of Ethnic MinoritieS"
review the current state of knowledge as it relates to mental
health problems, assessment, and treatment. They suggest new
directions for research. They also provide a vehicle to disseminate
research findings to the service provider, professional training
programs, and the graduate student.
Thoroughly updated throughout, this second edition will continue to
be about the practicable methods of statistical applications for
engineers, and as well for scientists and those in business. It
remains a what-I-wish-I-had-known-when-starting-my-career
compilation of techniques. Contrasting a mathematical and abstract
orientation of many statistics texts, which expresses the
science/math values of researchers, this book has its focus on the
application to concrete examples and the interpretation of
outcomes. Supporting application propriety, this book also presents
the fundamental concepts, provides supporting derivation, and has
frequent do and not-do notes. Key Features: Contains details of the
computation for the examples. Includes new examples and exercises.
Includes expanded topics supporting data analysis. The book is for
upper-level undergraduate or graduate students in engineering, the
hard sciences, or business programs. The intent is that the text
would continue to be useful in professional life, and appropriate
as a self-learning tool after graduation - whether in graduate
school or in professional practice. Errata can be found here
Filmmaker brothers Joel and Ethan Coen got their start in the
independent film business in 1984 with their debut feature Blood
Simple, which won the award of Best Dramatic Feature at Sundance in
1985 and was hailed as one of the best films of the year by the
National Board of Review. Since their early success, the Coen
Brothers have built a name for themselves and gone on to create
other big-name movies such as Raising Arizona, Fargo, and The Big
Lebowski. This book is a comprehensive account of these four films
and Miller's Crossing, Barton Fink and The Hudsucker Proxy.
Production information and in-depth analysis and critique are
provided, as well as discussions on how each movie functions in the
broader context of the Coens' work, and the themes, strategies, and
motifs often utilized by the Coens.
An interfaith collection of prayers, blessings, and poems offering
comfort and hope to the healthcare workers that give so much. The
COVID-19 pandemic has left few of us unaffected, but our healthcare
workers have borne the brunt of its impact. Chaplains and clergy
across all lines of faith have ministered to those caregivers
through prayers and blessings. This curated collection of
interfaith prayers, blessings, and poems was written by those who
minister to healthcare workers. It's a beautiful resource that
those who work on our medical front lines can carry with them or
keep at their workstations for daily inspiration. It can also be
used by chaplains and pastors who offer support to medical
personnel. Many of the prayers were written to meet specific needs
during the pandemic, yet they speak to the shared grief and hope we
all have carried as we continue to navigate this extraordinary
time. Contributors include The Most Rev. Michael B. Curry, Rev.
Barbara Crafton, Catherine Meeks, Jennifer Grant, Rev. Ineda Pearl
Adesanya, and Rev. Gayle Fisher-Stewart.

Description
Using chips composed of thousands of spots, each with the
capability of holding DNA molecules corresponding to a given gene,
DNA microarray technology has enabled researchers to measure
simultaneously gene expression across the genome. As with other
large scale genomics approaches, microarray technologies are
broadly applicable across disciplines of life and biomedical
sciences, but remain daunting to many researchers. This guide is
designed to demystify the technology and inform more biologists
about this critically important experimental technique.
.Provides a basic overview of microarray technology and available
platforms for those unfamiliar with the technology
.Includes detailed discussion of experimental design and analysis
of microarray experiments, giving first-time users valuable
information that can be tailored to their own research needs
.Provides discussion of such hot areas as ChIP (chromatin
immunoprecipitation) with hybridization to DNA arrays,
microarray-based comparative genomic hybridization (CGH), and cell
and tissue arrays
Expert author team highlights the utility of the technology using
examples from human health and disease--e.g., malaria and cancer
diagnostics.
The best one-volume reader of Luther's writingsnow revised Martin
Luther's Basic Theological Writings, a single-volume introduction
to Luther's most influential, noted, and important writings in the
modern translationsincluding excerpts of his sermons and
letterspresents Luther the theologian "steeped in the word of God,
speaking to the whole church," even as it takes the reader straight
to Luther the man, to his controversial Reformation insights, to
his strongest convictions about God and Scripture and the life of
the church, and most importantly to his theologya still-exciting
encounter with the meaning of Jesus Christ for each age.The third
edition includes revised introductions, updated bibliography,
index, and the addition of "A Meditation on Christ's Passion"
(1519), "Treatise on the Blessed Sacrament" (1519), "Sermon on the
Sacrament of the Body and Blood of ChristAgainst the Fanatics"
(1526), "Sermon in Castle Pleissenburg" (1539), and "Consolation to
Women Whose Pregnancies Have Not Gone Well" (1542), as well as new
translations of "A Practical Way to Pray" (1535) and "On the
Freedom of a Christian" (1520).
This guide is derived from the author's notes for the two-day
course of the same name that he presents for the Securities and
Investment Institute.
It is neither a transcript of the course, nor a fully
comprehensive work of reference. Rather, it is intended as an
introductory text for those new to or unfamiliar with investments
and asset management. It provides a broad and practical description
of investment funds and fund management from a number of
perspectives and aims to stimulate further, more detailed
study.
Starting with the general economic background and rationale for
the existence of funds, it moves through a description of the
features and characteristics of different types of funds, and the
associated regulatory and investor protection mechanisms, to the
process of establishing a fund.
It then addresses the topic from the perspective of the
portfolio manager, by providing an overview of the principal
investment strategies and styles deployed in the construction of
portfolios, and of their administration, before covering investor
administration and, finally, the mathematics and methods of
performance measurement.
Your own understanding of fund management after reading this
guide will depend upon your interest and aspirations, your appetite
for and approach to learning, and, of course, your expectations of
the guide, which, please note, is an introduction to the subject;
it will not make you an expert!

When Jana Webster dies in a tragic accident, she finds herself
transferred to 'Dead School' in the afterlife, where students fall
into distinct cliques. Risers (good kids who died innocently),
Sliders (bad kids, who have one foot tied to earth) and Virgins
(there are fewer than Jana would expect). Jana's boyfriend and love
of her life - Michael - is still in the land of the living. Michael
is Romeo to Jana's Juliet and as the story goes... even death can't
keep them apart. Tired of waiting for him to kill himself over his
grief of losing her, Jana decides she needs to do it for him. To
kill Michael she'll need the help of a dangerous and sexy Slider -
Mars Dreamcoate. But Mars has a goal of his own: he wants to save a
life to atone for having taken one in a drunk-driving accident. And
to complicate matters, he was trying to save Jana when she died and
saw what was really going on when her 'accident' happened. Jana
decides to do whatever it takes to get Michael back, and nothing -
not even Mars' warm touch or the devastating secret he holds about
her death - will stop her.

This document was written to develop an improved form, or forms,
for the guidance of G-4s at all echelons of command in making
logistical estimates of the situation. This would help logistical
planners at all echelons of command to follow the same procedures
and thought processes in compiling logistical estimates.
The possibility of "weapons of mass destruction" (WMD) use in this
country to harm Americans, including emergency responders, presents
a genuine threat. Advances in technology assist the development and
spread of biological weapons. Smallpox, an old disease, was used as
a weapon in the past and is a viable security threat today. Part of
the threat is the limited supplies of vaccine. This limit
diminishes the capabilities of the U.S. to defend the homeland. The
threat is further validated with recent reported outbreaks of
smallpox cases in Russia, lending credence to the possible spread
of the virus by accidental releases. The CDC ordered new vaccine in
an effort to defend against an outbreak and protect the most
vulnerable people. These actions provide convincing evidence the
U.S. is taking the threat seriously.

Children born today will live shorter lives than their parents and
grandparents because of the obesity epidemic in America. Despite
heightened awareness of the problem and advances in healthcare,
present strategies are not working to reverse the trend. This book
aims to honestly answer questions currently weighing on the minds
of many parents: How can I prevent or reverse obesity in my child
or adolescent? How do I ensure that my child will not become obese
during his or her lifetime? Written by a registered dietitian and
mother, The Poisoning of Our Children contains practical advice
that can be incorporated into a family's daily life immediately.
Based on credible research, it gives parents the knowledge and
tools they need for raising healthy children from the start. And it
provides pediatricians and health professionals with the evidence
they need when working with families. This book goes beyond the
obvious problems of unhealthy eating and lack of physical activity;
it closely examines the roles of modern-day American culture and
lifestyle habits. Rather than offering a list of "do's" and
"don'ts," the emphasis is on developing healthy habits to last a
lifetime.
