El VIX es una importante medida de la volatilidad esperada del mercado. Desde su creacion en 1993 en el CBOE, el VIX ha ganado una gran popularidad entre los inversores de todos los mercados financieros del mundo. El objetivo de este trabajo ha sido multiple. Por un lado ofrecer una vision general de las caracteristicas de este indice y de otros similares en otros paises. Por otro lado proponer la introduccion de este indice para el mercado espanol a partir de las volatilidades implicitas de las opciones sobre el futuro del IBEX 35 negociadas en MEFF, deteniendonos en analizar las propiedades univariantes y de estacionalidad de esta serie, destacando su utilidad como informacion de calidad para los miembros participantes del mercado."
