various crops along with new techniques and technology for the
detection of plant pathogens along with appropriate management
strategies. Divided into three volumes and with chapters written by
renowned and expert scientists working in different areas of plant
pathology, the volumes cover important diseases of crops incited by
bacteria, fungi, viruses, viroids, phytoplasma, and nematodes. It
addresses these disease challenges to commercial field and
horticultural crops and their management. Chapters cover recent
advances in diagnosis and detection of diseases of rice, wheat,
pulses, guava, aonla, cucurbits, ginger, sesame, cotton, pigeonpea,
field pea, small millets, maize, and cruciferous vegetables as well
as ornamental plants. Innovative Approaches in Diagnosis and
Management of Crop Diseases: Volume 1 focuses on the Mollicute
class of bacteria. It looks at the detection, diagnosis, and
management of phytoplasma diseases and viroids, CRISPR-Cas9 genome
editing in plants for virus resistance, next-generation sequencing
technologies, and more. Key features: Presents diverse research of
leading plant pathologists on detection, diagnosis, and management
of crop diseases Shares innovative and emerging techniques for
diagnosis and management of major plant diseases Covers a vast
array of important crops and their diseases Volume 2 looks
specifically at the diseases of field and horticultural crops,
while Volume 3 reviews the advances in the use of nanomolecules and
biocontrol agents. Diagnosis and management of biotic stresses play
a pivotal role in efficient agriculture production, and together,
these volumes of Innovative Approaches in Diagnosis and Management
of Crop Diseases provide reviews of crucial research to effectively
advance the detection, diagnosis, and management of crop diseases.
This book covers the proceedings of ICISSI 2022 (International
Conference on Intelligent Systems and Smart Infrastructure) held at
Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh during April 21-22, 2022. The conference
was jointly organised by Shambhunath Institute of Engineering and
Technology, Prayagraj UP India, Institute of Engineering and
Technology (IET) Lucknow, U.P India, and Manipal University Jaipur,
Rajasthan India with an aim to provide a platform for researchers,
scientists, technocrats, academicians and engineers to exchange
their innovative ideas and new challenges being faced in the field
of emerging technologies. The papers presented in the conference
have been compiled in form of chapters to focus on the core
technological developments in the emerging fields like machine
learning, intelligence systems, smart infrastructure, advanced
power technology etc.

This edited book is a compilation of tangible research findings and
actual experiences on various salt tolerant rice breeding
programmes, that have been successfully practiced and continuing to
do so by research centres in South East Asia, with major emphasis
in India, Bangladesh and Philippines. Rice being one of the most
important staple crops of the world, its production and
productivity have to be kept on increasing so as to feed the
burgeoning population. This is a very challenging task in the midst
of shrinking resource base and arable lands in the face of climate
change. Salt stress is the second major abiotic stress, next only
to drought, which greatly affects rice production. To overcome this
problem, development of improved salt tolerant rice cultivars
coupled with appropriate package of practices, an ecologically
sound and socially acceptable strategy should be developed which is
well within the reach of marginal farmers. With rapid advances in
molecular biology, mechanisms underlying the complexity of the
trait are better understood now than before. Selection of
appropriate parents, desired mapping populations, precise
phenotyping are the key components to underpin the mapping and
utilization of reliable QTLs. Understanding genetics of salt
tolerance, identifying the robust molecular markers and targeted
utilization of available molecular markers form the sound basis to
develop the commercial products with more precision and speed. This
book covers entire range of topics: starting from biophysical
characterization of salt stressed areas in different rice
ecologies, conventional and molecular breeding approaches for
mapping salt tolerance and subsequent development of improved rice
varieties for commercial cultivation and their societal impacts.
This book is of interest to scientists, faculty, policy makers and
administrators. It also serves as a resource guide to graduate
students of agriculture particularly plant breeding, plant
physiology, molecular biology and soil science.
The present work embodies the results of scientific investigation
involving the use of safe radiolysis process for degradation of
PCBs; persistent organic pollutants present in used oils by gamma
radiation using Co-60 as a radiation source. The work reports the
salient aspects of ship breaking activity in India, gamma
irradiation of PCBs, gamma irradiation of various oils, method
development and validation, determination of PCBs in thermic oils
using GC-MS, etc. The aim is to assess the level of destruction of
PCBs in standards and oils by gamma irradiation and to determine
the optimum dose of irradiation for this purpose. The studies are
also directed towards effects of gamma irradiation on properties of
oils. The properties of oils before and after irradiation have been
studied. The study led to some useful and interesting conclusions
which are covered in this book. The development and validation of
method of analysis of various PCBs at their trace levels in oils is
also the notable achievement of this study.
Focusing of Singular beam has attracted great deal of attention in
recent years due to various practical applications and in physical
optics. Importance has also been realized in polarization and pupil
function engineering for desired focused structure. Quality of the
focusing system plays a very important role in shaping the focused
structure, and any imperfection in focusing system results in
deformation or an increase in the size of the focal spot. This book
reports detail investigations on the focusing of singular beams by
high and low numerical aperture systems. Impact of aberrations on
the focused structure is also discussed in the context of STED
microscopy.
