A Collection of Poems Pankhuria (Hardcover): Ravi Sharma MD A Collection of Poems Pankhuria (Hardcover)
Ravi Sharma MD
R614 Discovery Miles 6 140 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Pankhuria in Hindi means feathers of a bird or a butterfly. I chose the name for the varied topics of my poems similar to picking specific feathers and flower petals and putting them together to give the name Pankhuria for my book. My original poems were published in my native language Hindi. I have now translated them into English to have a wider appeal to a larger number of readers. I have tried to express my feelings in simple poems. My sentiments are expressed in different topics encompassing love, betrayal, hurt, terrorism, Aids, domestic abuse, Tsunami, birth, death, euthanasia, beauty, nature, seasons and many more. When I was writing these poems I had in mind to flavor them with a background of culture from India. And then I realize the truth that the core emotions are the same in all the cultures even though the ways are different. Poetry becomes a powerful art form to reveal them. I have tried to do just that.

The Bloomsbury Handbook of Socrates (Hardcover, 2nd edition): Russell E. Jones, Ravi Sharma, Nicholas D. Smith The Bloomsbury Handbook of Socrates (Hardcover, 2nd edition)
Russell E. Jones, Ravi Sharma, Nicholas D. Smith
R4,364 Discovery Miles 43 640 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This handbook provides detailed philosophical analysis of the life and thought of Socrates across fifteen in-depth chapters. Each chapter engages with a central aspect of the rich tradition of Socratic studies and, after surveying the state of scholarship, points the way forward to new directions of interpretation. A leading team of scholars present dynamic readings of Socrates, extracted from the historical context of Plato’s dialogues, covering elenchus, irony, ignorance, definitions, pedagogy, friendship, politics and the daemon. Building on these core Socratic topics, this edition includes new accounts of Socrates in the work of philosopher and historian, Xenophon, the comic playwright, Aristophanes, as well as important scholarship on topics such as emotions, the afterlife, motivational intellectualism and virtue intellectualism. Fully revised and updated, the Bloomsbury Handbook of Socrates elucidates the complex landscape of Socratic thought and interpretation.

Corporate Biodiversity Management for Sustainable Growth - Assessment of Policies and Action Plans (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2020):... Corporate Biodiversity Management for Sustainable Growth - Assessment of Policies and Action Plans (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2020)
Ravi Sharma, Aparna Watve, Amitabh Pandey
R2,809 Discovery Miles 28 090 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book aims to cover the multitude of corporate approaches towards mainstreaming biodiversity conservation and ecological management in policies and action plans, and explores the roles of these efforts in achieving national and global targets for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The book addresses various aspects of corporate actions such as corporate environmental responsibility, green businesses, market-based approaches to biodiversity conservation, and biodiversity trade-offs, and includes concept papers, reviews, and case studies presenting qualitative and quantitative research. Additionally, the text compares and assesses examples of positive and negative impacts of corporate involvement in biodiversity conservation in developed and developing countries to identify innovative approaches, and the best practices and models that can be replicated in diverse environmental conditions. The studies included in the book will help those working in the field of corporate involvement in biodiversity conservation, and outline the strengths and weaknesses of the approaches which will be useful for designing new environmental management action plans in the face of climate change. The book will also be of great value to researchers, academicians, policy makers, civil society groups, policy think tanks, and conservation managers.

Environmental Impacts of Tourism in Developing Nations (Hardcover): Ravi Sharma, Prakash Rao Environmental Impacts of Tourism in Developing Nations (Hardcover)
Ravi Sharma, Prakash Rao
R5,985 Discovery Miles 59 850 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

In the face of rapid industrialisation in the last few decades, the tourism economy has blossomed into a major industry with positive impacts such as economic growth, infrastructure development, employment, and income generation. However, tourism brings negative environmental effects such as degradation of landscapes and habitats, increased vulnerability of avifauna and wildlife, and pollution leading to the decline of species. Environmental Impacts of Tourism in Developing Nations is a pivotal reference source that explores some of the critical challenges faced in the tourism economy particularly with regard to the impacts on the environment in developing nations. It also explores the impact tourism plays in the biophysical environment such as the issue of climate change. While highlighting topics such as environmental justice, ecosystems, and ecotourism, this book is ideally designed for academicians, policymakers, environmentalists, tourism professionals, and graduate-level students seeking current research on the environmental and economic impacts of tourism.

Semiconductor nanocrystals are described as a state of matter that are intermediate between individual molecule and bulk. The small size and high optical activity of certain doped nanoparticles make them interesting for applications in optoelectronics, catalysis and fluorescence microscopy. In nonmaterial extremely high surface to volume ratio is obtained leading to an increase in surface specific active sites for chemical reactions and photon absorption to enhance the reaction and absorption efficiency. Blue-shift in the optical absorption, PL spectrum etc. is affected by the particle size. The incorporation of transition metal ions into nanocrystals induces radiative recombination of excited electron-hole pair, which shifts photoluminescence wavelength and increases quantum efficiency. This book provides information on the XRD, SEM, TEM, FTIR, optical absorption, PL spectra, their mechanism, theories and experimental detail of ZnS nanoparticles doped with Mn. A very cost effective chemical route method to synthesize the nanoparticles is explained. This book is very useful for those research scholars and post graduate students who want to work on optical properties of nanoparti
