Gluten-free and dairy-free recipes and cookbooks abound these

stews. Now, James Beard Award winning author Rebecca Wood has
teamed up with food writer and recipe developer Leda Scheintaub to
develop a delicious and satisfying set of recipes to fill this gap.
More than 50 recipes accompanied by beautiful photographs will fill
those cold winter days with tasty, nutritious delights, ranging
from staples like a hearty vegetarian stock that will be the base
for many other soups to exciting new possibilities like Congee Five
Ways or Quinoa Hokkaido Pottage. No winter's day should be without
a delicious bowl of soup, and no cook should be without a copy of
The Whole Bowl."
This volume provides the most exhaustive and comprehensive
treatment available of the Verb Second property, which has been a
central topic in formal syntax for decades. While Verb Second has
traditionally been considered a feature primarily of the Germanic
languages, this book shows that it is much more widely attested
cross-linguistically than previously thought, and explores the
multiple empirical, theoretical, and experimental puzzles that
remain in developing an account of the phenomenon. Uniquely, formal
theoretical work appears alongside studies of psycholinguistics,
language production, and language acquisition. The range of
languages investigated is also broader than in previous work: while
novel issues are explored through the lens of the more familiar
Germanic data, chapters also cover Verb Second effects in languages
such as Armenian, Dinka, Tohono O'odham, and in the Celtic,
Romance, and Slavonic families. The analyses have wide-ranging
consequences for our understanding of the language faculty, and
will be of interest to researchers and students from advanced
undergraduate level upwards in the fields of syntax, historical
linguistics, and language acquisition.
Autistic girls can be frequently misunderstood, underestimated and
therefore anxious in a school environment. This practical book
offers an innovative life skills curriculum for autistic girls aged
11 to 15, based on the author's successful workshops and training,
which show how to support girls' wellbeing and boost their
self-esteem. Including an adapted PSHE curriculum, this is a
straightforward guide to educating autistic children on the issues
that matter most to them. It covers all essential areas of
wellbeing, including communication, identity, self-regulation and
triggers, safety, and physical and mental health, and offers the
reader strategies to help the autistic girls in their lives enhance
and develop these.
This book presents original, empirical research that reframes how
educators should consider autism and educational inclusion. Rebecca
Wood carefully unpicks common misapprehensions about autism and how
autistic children learn, and reconsiders what inclusion can and
should mean for autistic learners in school settings. Drawing on
research and interwoven with comments from autistic child and adult
contributors throughout, the book argues that inclusion will only
work if the ways in which autistic children think, learn,
communicate and exhibit their understanding are valued and
supported. Such an approach will benefit both the learner and the
whole classroom. Considering topics such as the sensory
environment, support, learning and cognition, school curriculums,
communication and socialisation, this much needed book offers ideas
and insight that reflect the practical side of day-to-day teaching
and learning, and shows how thinking differently about autism and
inclusion will equip teachers to effectively improve teaching
conditions for the whole school.
A simple bowl of soup can be the most comforting meal. With these 60 nourishing recipes, there's something for every season and every appetite. All of them have an emphasis on well-being, with nutritious ingredients that include healthy whole grains, pulses, and fresh produce, and every one is packed full of wholesome flavour from herbs and spices and creatively healthy toppings. There are a number of dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan options, too.
The book begins with basic stocks, tasty toppings, and tips for simple soup making. Then each of the 60 main recipes is photographed and includes Wild Mixed Mixed Mushroom Broth with Pearled Spelt and Tarragon; Prawn, Pernod and Pink Peppercorn Broth with Asian Greens; and Venison Soup with Beluga Lentils and Cherries.
In this strikingly honest collection, developed from a pioneering
new research project, autistic teachers and other autistic school
professionals share their stories of the challenges and successes
of their careers. Contributors challenge assumptions and
stereotypes whilst highlighting the unique strengths autistic staff
can bring to schools when their own needs are accommodated. The
book explores exclusion and identity, understanding and acceptance,
intersectionality and facilitating inclusion. It also celebrates
the positives that come with being an autistic teacher, such as
relating to neurodivergent pupils and conveying passion and
enthusiasm for a subject through intense interests, or
demonstrating particular skills in school leadership. It examines
how workplace set up can sometimes exclude autistic individuals and
lead to skilled teachers and those in other education roles,
including visiting professionals, leaving the profession, and sets
out the accommodations that can prevent this from happening.
Sophie Burden was raised on Remuda Ranch, an historic dude ranch
established by her family outside of Wickenburg, Arizona. She could
soon ride better than her unsteady toddler legs could walk. Her
young, busy parents gave her and her brothers free rein by default,
resulting in a wild, unconventional childhood. Sophie married Dom
Echeverria, a Basque who proved passionate, loving...and explosive.
Their life together took them to the high Andes of Peru, Colorado,
New Mexico, and Wyoming, where they ran one of the largest ranching
operations in the West. Three of their eight children died of
cystic fibrosis. Alternately funny and tragic, "When in Doubt, Step
on the Gas" is a remarkable memoir you will find difficult to put
down.
Meg Norton is ill-equipped to succeed in the mom-eat-mom private
school pressure cooker of twenty-first century Southern California.
Always feeling as if she missed the Cool Mom Memo, Meg tries to
play the part of perfect mother to daughter Annie and son Charlie
and devoted wife to husband, Chuck. When Charlie's odd behavior at
his posh private preschool begins to alienate the other kids and
their moms, Meg finds herself torn between her husband's desire for
the perfect family and her son's need to march to the beat of a
drummer only he can hear. Feeling isolated and alone she retreats
into a nightly jug of chardonnay. While Meg's marriage reaches the
breaking point, Charlie receives a diagnosis that rocks her world.
Meg realizes that to be the mom Charlie deserves, reclaim her life
and keep her family together, the private schools and the
chardonnay have got to go. If the measure of a mom is the success
of her children, then what kind of mom raises a child who hides at
birthday parties, wears an old Halloween costume and barks like a
dog during the school Christmas program? LIVING THROUGH CHARLIE is
the story of a boy who teaches his mother to love and accept him
for who he is, and to love and accept herself in the process.
Sophie Burden was raised on an historic dude ranch outside of
Wickenburg, Arizona. She married Dom Echeverria, a Basque who
proved both loving and explosive. Their life took them to the high
Andes of Peru, Colorado, New Mexico, and Wyoming, where they ran
one of the largest ranching operations in the West and raised eight
children. Alternately funny and tragic, you will find her
remarkable memoir difficult to put down. Part II of her story, Look
Both Ways Before Breaking the Law, delves into what happens to the
family when Dom unexpectedly dies; the second of Sophie's children
succumbs to cystic fibrosis after a life-long battle; and the
oldest children marry and begin lives of their own. The family's
courage-and outright shenanigans-are unmatched. A wonderful
stand-alone read, Look Both Ways will have you running to the
bookstore for Part I: When in Doubt, Step on the Gas. I strongly
believe the term rip-snorting was created to describe the
Echeverria clan. The second volume of this family saga is just as
funny, sad, tragic, and life-affirming as the first. The story is
amazing and Sophie is the writer to match it. -Tim Sandlin
