This book offers an examination of the verbal participation of learners in Japanese as a Foreign Language classrooms. The verbal participation of learners in language classrooms offers a rich seam of data to the applied linguist. Overt and covert participation, when examined, can reveal both the structures of a classroom and elicit privileged information on participant's self-perceptions. This book examines the verbal participation of learners in Japanese as a Foreign Language classrooms. The examination of corrective feedback episodes and learners' private speech uses recorded speech and stimulated recall interviews recorded over the period of a year. The book's main focus is on Corrective Feedback episodes, and it explains not only the language used in class but also teacher's and learner's own perceptions. All episodes from the Japanese anime series following a group of schoolgirls who participate in the martial art known as tankery. After bringing shame to her family name when she leaves her tank during a battle to save her friends, and subsequently causing her team to lose the contest, Miho Nishizumi (voice of Meg McDonald) decides to move away and joins new school Oarai Girls High. Miho chooses the school because it hasn't participated in tankery for almost 20 years but when the student council announces that Oarai will once again take part in sport she is pressured to get involved by the council's president and reluctantly becomes the commander of the Anglerfish Team. Alongside her new friends Saori (Jessica Calvello), Hana (Caitlynn French), Yukari (Rebekah Stevens) and Mako (Molly Searcy), Miho learns to enjoy the sport again and battles against rival schools in a tankery tournament.
