Jerry Maguire (1996)
Intolerable Cruelty (2003)
Pity poor Bridget Jones (Renee Zellweger). She's the 1990s British
everywoman: single, weight-obsessed, and very probably drunk on
mid-price white wine. Her life goes from middling to worse when she
embarks on a doomed affair with silver-tongued boss Daniel Cleaver
(Hugh Grant).
Sharon Maguire directs this third instalment of the romantic comedy
series based on the characters created by Helen Fielding. Renée
Zellweger reprises her role as Bridget Jones, the quirky
forty-something who is learning to embrace adulthood. Following her
break up with Mark Darcy (Colin Firth), Bridget decides to focus on her
career as a top news producer while also attempting to enjoy the single
life with friends.
Track list
Sweeping American Civil War drama based on the novel by Charles Frazier, directed by Anthony Minghella (The English Patient, The Talented Mr Ripley). Jude Law stars as Inman, a wounded Confederate soldier who is slowly making the perilous journey back to his home town of Cold Mountain in North Carolina, meeting a string of colourful characters along the way (played by actors including Philip Seymour Hoffman, Natalie Portman, Ray Winstone and Kathy Baker). At home waits Ada Monroe (Nicole Kidman), the pre-war sweetheart to whom he has vowed to return. In his absence Ada, the shy and reserved daughter of a preacher (Donald Sutherland), has befriended the feisty Ruby (Renée Zellweger), a tough-talking young woman who can work the land as well as any man. Ruby supports Ada both emotionally and practically as she waits for Inman's return - but as the war drags on and her letters go unanswered, Ada finds it increasingly difficult to keep the faith.
Renee Zellweger and Catherine Zeta Jones star in this Oscar-winning big screen adaptation of the popular Broadway show. In 1920s Chicago nightclub singer Velma Kelly (Zeta Jones) and aspiring starlet Roxie Hart (Zellweger) are both arrested on the same night for committing two different murders. Placed in jail together, both women accept the advice of lawyer Billy Flynn (Richard Gere) and soon begin using their present circumstances to further their quest for wealth and fame.
Winter 1968, and showbiz legend Judy Garland arrives in swinging London to perform in a sell-out run at The Talk of the Town. It is 30 years since she shot to global stardom in THE WIZARD OF OZ, but if her voice has weakened, its dramatic intensity has only grown. As she prepares for the show, battles with management, charms musicians, and reminisces with friends and adoring fans, her wit and warmth shine through. Even her dreams of romance seem undimmed as she embarks on a courtship with Mickey Deans, her soon-to-be fifth husband. And yet Judy is fragile. After working for 45 of her 47 years, she is exhausted; haunted by memories of a childhood lost to Hollywood; gripped by a desire to be back home with her kids. Will she have the strength to go on? Featuring some of her best-known songs, the film celebrates the voice, the capacity for love and the sheer pizzazz of “the world’s greatest entertainer”. (Academy Award winner: Best Actress (Renee Zellweger). Also nominated for Best Make-Up & Hairstyling)
Critically acclaimed biopic based on a true story. James J. Braddock (Russell Crowe), dubbed 'Cinderella Man', was a once-promising light heavyweight who suffered a string of losses in the ring and broke his right hand. With one good hand, Braddock was forced to labour on the docks of Hoboken, while only his manager (Paul Giamatti) still believed in him, finding fights for Braddock to help support his wife (Renee Zellweger) and children. One of the sport's oddest couples, the diminutive, loquacious manager and the burly quiet boxer start to stage an impossible comeback. In the span of less than twelve months Braddock gets his shot at heavyweight champion Max Baer (Craig Bierko), renowned for having allegedly killed two men in the ring. As a 10-1 underdog, Braddock carries the hopes and dreams of the desperate Depression-era working class on his shoulders.
