Tamara Cohn Eskenazi has a special place in contemporary biblical
scholarship. Among the first to bring a focus of scholarly
attention to the period of ancient Israel's creativity after the
Exile, she has also been a leader in foregrounding the Jewish
tradition within the interpretative discourse of biblical scholars.
And as a woman scholar, she has advanced the study of issues in the
Hebrew Bible that impinge on the concerns of women ancient and
modern. Tamara Eskenazi was awarded the 2008 National Jewish Book
Award for her volume The Torah: A Women's Commentary and the 2011
National Jewish Book Award in Women's Studies for her commentary on
Ruth in the Jewish Publication Society Bible Commentary series. The
26 articles offered to Tamara Eskenazi by her friends in this
volume represent the range of her interests in all things biblical
and Jewish. From Genesis to the New Testament to modern Hebrew
fiction, from technical studies on the prophets or Qumran to
penetrating insights on her beloved philosopher Levinas, this
volume beautifully represents the range and depth of Jewish
culture. The contributors are Rachel Adler, Annette Aronowicz,

For generations, conventional wisdom stated that you could never
sell a book with 'penis' in the title - until Quirk's "Penis Pokey"
shattered all of the rules, racking up 100,000 in net sales in just
18 months. In this same tradition comes "How to Live with a Huge
Penis" - a gift every man will cherish, regardless of whether or
not he actually needs it. Frankly, it's enough for someone to think
he needs it. This hilarious self-help parody is full of
compassionate advice for men afflicted with Oversized Male
Genitalia (OMG).Far too often, these men are banished to the
fringes of society, victims of their own freakish length and girth.
But Dr. Richard Jacob and Rev. Owen Thomas are here with a message
of tolerance and hope, along with hilarious advice on 'coming out'
to your family, sharing your assets with a partner, and avoiding
injury in the workplace. Complete with a daily affirmations journal
and inspiring quotes from leading self-help experts, "How to Live
with a Huge Penis" will send an uplifting message to men around the
world.
This book recreates in written form seventeen of the most popular,
frankly personal and engaging lectures on literature given by the
award-winning teacher Richard Jacobs, who has been working with
students for over forty years. This is a book written for students,
whether starting their studies or more experienced, and also for
all lovers of literature. At its heart is the conviction that
reading, thinking about, and writing or talking about literature
involves us all personally: texts talk to us intimately and
urgently, inviting us to talk back, intervening in and changing our
lives. These lectures discuss, in an open but richly informed way,
a wide range of texts that are regularly studied and enjoyed. They
model what it means to be excited about reading and studying
literature, and how the study of literature can be life-changing -
perhaps even with the effect of changing the lives of readers of
this eloquent and remarkable book.
A Beginner's Guide to Critical Reading brings literature to life by
combining a rich selection of literary texts with original and
lively commentary. Unlike so many introductions to literary
studies, it vividly demonstrates how criticism and theory can
enhance your own enjoyment and appreciation of literature.
Aimed at AS, A2 and undergraduate students, Richard Jacobs draws a
map of English Literature which is fresh and distinctive and which
offers guidance to many familiar landmarks. In the process he shows
that studying literature can be a source of huge pleasure and
interest.

Narrative is everywhere and has unique powers: to enchant and
inspire, to make sense of our lives and ourselves and to afford us
an enriched understanding of alternative worlds and lives and of
better futures - though narrative also has the potential to coerce
and oppress. Narrative is at the centre at all stages of the
English curriculum and has been the subject of a burgeoning
critical industry. This timely volume addresses the many ways in
which recent thinking has informed the teaching of narrative in
university classrooms in the UK and the USA. Distinguished teachers
from both countries range widely across narrative topics and
genres, including the opportunities opened up by new technologies,
and chapters articulate students' own individual and collaborative
experiences in the teaching/learning process. The result is a
volume that explores the pleasurable challenges of working with
students to help them appreciate and assess the power that
narrative exerts, to become reflective critics of its inner
workings as well as exponents of narrative themselves.
This is the third revised edition of what was described by the
English Court of Appeal in C v D as the "standard work" on Bermuda
Form excess insurance policies. The Form, first used in the 1980s,
covers liabilities for catastrophes such as serious explosions or
mass tort litigation and is now widely used by insurance companies.
It is unusual in that it includes a clause requiring disputes to be
arbitrated under English procedural rules in London but subject to
New York substantive law. This calls for a rare mix of knowledge
and experience on the part of the lawyers involved, each of whom is
required to confront the many differences between English and US
law and legal culture. In addition, since the awards of arbitrators
are confidential and are not subject to the scrutiny of the courts,
the book helps professionals understand the Form's lengthy and
complex provisions. The book, first published in 2004, was the
first comprehensive analysis of the Bermuda Form. It is frequently
cited in Bermuda Form arbitrations and was the joint winner in 2012
of British Insurance Law Association Book Prize for the most
notable contribution to literature in the field of law as it
affects insurance. It offers a detailed commentary on how the Form
is to be construed, its coverage, the substantive law to be
applied, the limits of liability, exceptions, and, of course, the
procedures to be followed during arbitration proceedings in London.
The book will prove invaluable to lawyers, risk managers, and
executives of companies which purchase insurance on the Bermuda
Form, and to clients, lawyers or arbitrators involved in disputes
arising therefrom.
"But I Only Had 2 Beers " - the #1 response over 1.6 million people
arrested for drunk driving this year gave to police, their friends,
and their attorney. What's the REAL TRUTH behind driving under the
influence? Are most people truly drunk or did they merely have an
extra glass of wine at dinner? DUI affects everyone, no matter
their age, race, income or education level; no one is immune to its
effects. Movie & sports stars, lawyers, police, judges, factory
workers, and everyone in between has been charged with a DUI. Over
26 DUI lawyers were interviewed to create the material for this
insightful look into the truth about Drunk Driving.
Samuel Oakman uses the cover of darkness to carry out his mission.
It is 1934, and the night is dark. The June 1934 Ku Klux Klan
meeting takes place in a room above Kahn's Saloon. Young Samuel is
the lone Negro to attend secretly. As he learns the posse's plan
for the nights cross burning, he forges his counter-plan. In order
to accomplish his mission he must enlist a close friend. Sammy
forces his white childhood friend, Gabriel Summers, out of a fitful
sleep, and with subtle coercion persuades Gabe to follow him into
the East Texas bayous. Gabe follows the death march with terrible
consequences if Samuel's plan fails. With the aid of his Gramps
eight-gauge shotgun, Sammy stops the raid with greater than wished
for results. The duel blasts from the shotgun severely injures
Samuel, forcing Gabe to assist him to escape. There is no exit
strategy-a critical failure of the plan. Samuel's tactics returns
them to town and possible discovery, but Gabe intervenes and leads
them to safety. Samuel forgot a critical part of the plan-now they
must escape the Posse.
Did law school teach you ANYTHING about how to successfully market
your law practice? You wouldn't have been compelled to read this
book if it did, now would you? Contrary to what the public thinks,
you and I know being an attorney can at times be a thankless,
life-sucking, time consuming, family destroying profession that
earns you little more than middle class wages. It's NOT the best
attorneys that make the most money. Many times some of the hardest
working and knowledgeable attorneys are the very ones scraping to
get by, working 80 hour weeks, and giving up family time and any
hope of a life outside the office. From interviewing 150+
attorneys, and seeing the inside of 400+ attorney websites, I can
tell you these shocking facts: 1. 97% of attorneys tell me they've
been burned, more than once, by an unscrupulous marketing company
who sees them as their next ATM withdrawal. 2. The top 3 ways
attorneys get burned by marketers are: A) the marketing company
controls either the hosting or domain name of their website, and
"rents" this to the attorney, pulling the rug out at contract's
end, or extorts the attorney for thousands to own their own
website; B) Proprietary reporting systems are used to create smoke
and mirrors, hiding lack of results; C) Little to no marketing work
is actually performed, but instead claimed to have been performed.
3. 95% of attorneys get 0 - 5 visitors to their website a day. (how
will you EVER get enough potential clients to call you without
enough visitors?) 4. It's possible, with proper marketing, to get
your phone ringing with real, live, breathing potential clients on
a DAILY BASIS, earning you 4-8 or more retained clients a month
from a properly SEO'd website that draws 100+ unique visitors
daily. 5. Over 90% of attorneys sacrifice tens of thousands of
dollars a year in lost retentions due to untrained, unfriendly,
standoffish office staff, attorney partners, lack of customer
intake scripting, and utter lack of potential client follow up. 6.
In your city, on your block, there are attorneys charging triple
what you charge, making $300k - $500k+ a year, meanwhile other
lawyers are whoring themselves out for nickels, and going broke.
Yes, in THIS ECONOMY. Richard Jacobs' book, Secrets of Attorney
Marketing Law School Dares Not Teach, gives you street fighter
strategies and tactics you can use TODAY to earn more, work less,
and get off the treadmill of mediocrity. At times irreverant,
crude, rude, and unprofessional, Richard exposes the truth about
what marketing works, and what doesn't. If you're easily offended,
stuck on professionalism, "getting your name out there," and feel
naked if you have to take a picture without the security of your
law books behind you, then do not read this book.
