Written for students working in a range of disciplines, this
textbook provides an accessible, balanced, and nuanced introduction
to the field of public international law. It explains the basic
concepts and legal frameworks of public international law while
acknowledging the field's inherent complexities and controversies.
Featuring numerous carefully chosen and clearly explained examples,
it demonstrates how the law applies in practice, and public
international law's pervasive influence on world affairs, both past
and present. Aiming not to over-emphasize any particular domestic
jurisprudence or research interest, this textbook offers a global
overview of public international law that will be highly valuable
to any student new to the study of this very significant field.
This volume contains several articles on the topic 'Detention in
non-international armed conflict', including the Copenhagen
Process, and moreover features contributions on autonomous weapons
systems, Apartheid and the second Turkel Report. It also contains
an elaborate Year in Review and a special section on the high-level
Boundaries of the Battlefield symposium, including a conference
report and several in-depth reflections on various other aspects of
the symposium. The Yearbook of International Humanitarian Law is
the world's only annual publication devoted to the study of the
laws governing armed conflict. It provides a truly international
forum for high-quality, peer-reviewed academic articles focusing on
this crucial branch of international law. Distinguished by
contemporary relevance, the Yearbook of International Humanitarian
Law bridges the gap between theory and practice and serves as a
useful reference tool for scholars, practitioners, military
personnel, civil servants, diplomats, human rights workers and
students.
'Child Soldiers and the Lubanga Case' and 'The Tallinn Manual on
the International Law Applicable to Cyber Warfare' are the two
central themes of this volume. Each of these timely topics is
addressed from three different angles, providing a truly
comprehensive analysis of the subject. The book also features an
article on the duty to investigate civilian casualties during armed
conflict and its implementation in practice and an elaborate year
in review, discussing developments that occurred in 2012. The

Master's Thesis from the year 2009 in the subject Business
economics - General, grade: 1.0, University of Bremen, language:
English, abstract: Economic growth and technological changes are
often triggered by innovative entrepreneurs who discover, exploit,
and explore undetected opportunities. However, before entrepreneurs
can move forward they need capital in order to realize their
business idea. In general, investors can be characterized as the
gatekeepers who provide this financial bottleneck resource to
entrepreneurs. Venture capital firms, in particular, are a highly
specialized group of investors which may also act as facilitators
for innovations. Given that entrepreneurs and venture capitalists
have been mostly studied in isolated cases, no integrative
framework has yet been developed. Thus, this study aims to unfold
the interconnectedness and dependencies of both parties and derives
inter alia two important variables, namely strategic orientation
and trust, which have been poorly studied in this field, but are
crucial for the long term success of the relationship. The
structure of this study corresponds with the process which is
characteristic for the relationship between the venture capitalist
and the entrepreneur: The innovation process The strategy dimension
The trust perspective This study uses an adapted gatekeeper model
by Csikszentmihalyi to reveal the different stages of the
innovation process and to build a theoretical framework of the
relationship between both parties. Through the complexity and the
interconnection of all the different aspects it is designed as a
"door opener" to a rich field of further research as well as it is
aimed at helping practitioners understand the innovation process
within a complex and dynamic environment.
International law is increasingly applied in the field of natural
resources. This reflects the current and challenging problem of
mankind, namely how should increasingly rare natural resources or
commodities be explored and exploited. This collection draws on the
experts in the field to explore questions such as mining and human
rights; national resources and investment law; and authority over
natural resources. Though asking probing questions from different
sectors, each contribution keeps the big picture and the underlying
conditions in mind to answer the collection’s research questions
with one voice.
