This would be the only publication on this topic at a time when all
teachers of landscape and garden history are conscious of the need
to reconsider their offer. The book will be co-produced by an
international community of history teachers in aspects of landscape
design and is intended to become a standard reference in the field.
Aimed at prospective and new students, this book gives a
comprehensive introduction to the nature and practice of landscape
architecture, the professional skills required and the latest
developments. After discussing the history of the profession, the
book explains the design process through principles such as
hierarchy, human scale, unity, harmony, asymmetry, colour, form and
texture. It looks at how design is represented through both drawing
and modelling, and through digital techniques such as CAD and the
use of GIS (Geographic Information Systems). This is followed by an
examination of project management and landscape management
techniques. Finally, the book explores educational and employment
opportunities and the future of the profession in the context of
climate change and sustainability. Illustrated with international
examples of completed projects, Landscape Architecture provides an
invaluable, one-stop resource for anyone considering studying or a
career in this field.
Why are you here? What is life for? What are you meant to do? New
York Times best-selling author Robert Holden helps you go from
looking for your purpose to living it. (Hint: It's not just about
you.) "How do I find my life's purpose?" In the 10-year run of
Robert Holden's call-in radio show, Shift Happens!, his listeners
asked that question more often than any other, by far. It seems
everybody is looking for their purpose, and yet we all struggle to
recognize it and live it. In Higher Purpose, Holden takes readers
on an epic journey of self-discovery that includes the hero's
journey with Joseph Campbell, Carl Jung's work on true vocation,
Victor Frankl's search for meaning, a pilgrimage with St. Francis
of Assisi, the poetry of Wordsworth and Rilke, and much more. The
journey has four stages: "The Call" explores "the calling" inside
you to live a more meaningful life. "The Path" helps you to realize
what inspires you, what brings you alive, to follow your joy, and
to do more of what you love. "The Ordeal" tackles the inner blocks,
the road of trials, and challenges you must overcome to live your
higher purpose. "The Victory" encourages you to not betray
yourself, to "sing your whole song," and to keep on saying YES to
your soul's high adventure. In Higher Purpose, Holden explores
three distinct levels of purpose: your unique purpose, a shared
purpose, and the greater purpose of life. He offers inquiries,
meditations, and journaling exercises to help you live your purpose
every day. And he shares stories from his own life and
conversations with a host of remarkable people-Maya Angelou, Louise
Hay, Jean Houston, Matthew Fox, Robert Thurman, Caroline Myss,
Andrew Harvey, Wayne Dyer, Oprah Winfrey, and more.
Central America is a region defined primarily by its geographical
configuration as a canal-friendly isthmus, and its three-century
history as the Spanish Kingdom of Guatemala. Having gained
independence in 1821, the Kingdom broke up into the nations of
Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica after
two turbulent decades as a federated republic. Political
instability and violence, poverty and inequality, ethnic strife,
military rule, and a historic economic dependence on the export of
coffee and bananas marked the region's history. Owing to its
isthmian geography and political strife, Central America became a
frequent target of US government intervention. Intense US
political, economic, and military action both preceded and
accompanied the revolutionary civil wars of the 1970s and 1980s.
With British Honduras's independence from Great Britain in 1981 as
Belize, and the acquisition by Panama of full sovereignty over its
territory in 1999, Central America increasingly defined itself as a
region of seven countries. The Oxford Handbook of Central American
History analyzes major themes in the historiography of this
seven-nation region of Latin America. Individual chapters interpret
the histories of each of the seven countries. Most concentrate on
themes that cut across national boundaries, beginning with the
history of the region's diverse natural environment, and continuing
with the Indigenous peoples, the Spanish conquest and colonial
rule, and the independence process. Nine chapters focus on
region-wide problems that emerged with great salience after
independence, including the economy, US relations, the armed
forces, the Cold War, religion, and literature, among others.
Together, the book's twenty-five chapters illuminate Central
America's coherence as a region of Latin America while emphasizing
its diversity within and across national boundaries.
'Life loves you' is one of Louise Hay's best-loved affirmations. It
is the heart thought that represents her life and her work.
Together, Louise and Robert Holden look at what 'life loves you'
really means - that life doesn't just happen to you; it happens for
you. In a series of intimate and candid conversations, they dig
deep into the power of love, the benevolent nature of reality, the
friendly universe and the heart of who we really are. Life Loves
You is filled with inspiring stories and helpful meditations,
prayers and exercises. Louise and Robert present a practical
philosophy based on seven spiritual practices. Key themes cover:
The Mirror Principle - practising the 'how' of self-love Affirming
Your Life - healing the ego's basic fear Following Your Joy -
trusting your inner guidance Forgiving the Past - reclaiming your
original innocence Being Grateful Now - cultivating basic trust
Learning to Receive - being undefended and open Healing the Future
- choosing love over fear
A Course in Miracles teaches that the way to remembering God - the
path of inner peace - is through love and forgiveness. The unique
curriculum it offers has resonated with millions of people around
the world and has been translated into over a dozen languages. Each
of the 50 beautifully designed cards in this deck draws from a
lesson in A Course In Miracles, explained by two world-renowned
teachers of the course.
"Love is your destiny. It is the purpose of your life. It is the
key to your happiness and to the evolution of the world."
Loveability is a meditation on love. It addresses the most
important thing you will ever learn. All the happiness, health and
abundance you experience in life comes from your ability to love
and be loved. This ability is innate, not acquired. Robert Holden
is the creator of a unique programme on love called Loveability,
which he teaches worldwide. Using this three-day public programme,
he has helped thousands of people to transform their experience of
love. 'Love is the real work of your life,' says Robert. 'As you
release the blocks to love you flourish even more in your
relationships, work, and life.' In Loveability, Robert weaves a
beautiful mix of timeless principles and helpful practices about
the nature of true love. With great intimacy and warmth, he shares
stories, conversations, meditations and poetry that have inspired
him in his personal inquiry on love. Key themes include: * Your
destiny is not just to find love; it is to be the most loving
person you can be. * Self-love is how you are meant to feel about
yourself. It is the key to loving others. * When you think
something is missing in a relationship, it is probably you. *
Forgiveness helps you to see that love has never hurt you; it is
only your misperceptions of love that hurt. * The greatest
influence you can have in any situation is to be the presence of
love.
Like Louise Hay's perennial bestsellers, Power Thought Cards and
Wisdom Cards, the Life Loves You Cards contain affirmations that
plant seeds for personal growth and transformation. Created by
Louise Hay and Robert Holden, co-authors of Life Loves You: 7
Spiritual Practices to Heal Your Life, these cards, like their
book, explore the deeper meaning and practical application of
Louise's signature affirmation 'life loves you'. Each of the 52
cards contains an affirmation to practice on one side and on the
other, an inspiring message to encourage self-inquiry and positive
action. As an example, the card for the affirmation Life loves you
contains the following text on the reverse side: Life loves us all.
Look at yourself in a mirror. Breathe in and say 'Life loves me'.
As you breathe out, smile. Repeat ten times. The card deck is
designed to be consulted in many different ways: as an oracle, as a
focus for the day or week, or to provide guidance on a specific
issue. In whichever way the cards are used, they are made to
demonstrate the transforming power of love.
