In this, his third novel, Dr. Milton endeavors to make the titles
possessed by all women Maiden, Mother, Crone discernible. His story
concerns a triad of tensile lives, a trinity of goddesses dipped
from the same hot, whorled gene pool but forged by distinctly
different environments. The result is a cautionary tale replete
with psychological, sociological and mystical insights related to
child abuse, cancer and clairvoyance.
The 'Maiden' precocious and obviously neglected provides the
storyteller's voice. Thwarted in her attempts to gain care and
affection, her abuse is reported with momentous consequences.
When Llyn the 'Mother' is told by two different Oncology experts
"We have nothing more to offer," she retreats to a childhood
belief: High, Mountains are mystical, magical and healing.
In the background a fanatical 'Crone' cruelly and sadistically
cajoles from an unassailable position.
On the journey to the summit of the highest mountain in North
America Alaska's mighty Mt Denali extraordinary triumphs, dreadful
disasters and intense meditations on mortality are revealed.
Throughout the story, explanations are disclosed, which ache with a
wisdom that can only be understood by those who have "been there"
and earned the right.
Dr. Robert Milton is a graduate of the University of Southern
California's Clinical Psychology program. He has authored six books
including three novels available on Amazon.com
While his world travels and interests reveal a kaleidoscope of
themes, his curiosity recently led him to neuro-science and
religion, particularly mysticism, which is touched upon in this
novel and his recent non-fiction book Your FLEXXIBLE Brain
published last year. Currently he lives in Southern California with
his dog, an Ozzy Shepherd, named Mr. Dugan. He can be contacted at

To be AWARE of the unconscious motivations impinging on our senses
is the heart of this book. While the near universal belief that
women are the inferior gender is refuted by contemporary empirical
scientific evidence, this prejudice, while not restricted to
Temple, Church or Mosque, has been conceived, nurtured and promoted
by select religious dogmas of 'The Big Three' religions. The
unconscious influences, guided by such tenets, have resulted in
slavery, violence, forced prostitution, genital mutilation and
national laws that omit rape as a crime. Historically 'The Big
Three' attributed their bias to a Higher Authority, and this
allegation provided the excuse for the deprivation of women's
rights around the world for centuries. Unconscious discriminatory
thinking lies behind the gender gap in almost every area of modern
civilized life. Why do women accept second-class status in their
homes, jobs and communities? Why are there are so few women in
public office in the enlightened climate of the United States? The
root of this prejudice lies deep in our historical past but its
unconscious impact is felt to this day. It is self-defeating for
any society to discriminate against half its population. It is not
only the females who suffer. It is damaging to any culture.
Individuals need to challenge these biases and practices. World
cultures need to make the unconscious - conscious and choose ways
to promote gender equality in order to positively and productively
utilize a vast, largely untapped resource -Woman Aware.
Contemporary neuro-science clearly demonstrates that 'content
loading' of the human brain i.e. Learning, experience, repetitive
behavior or thought, can change specific physical brain structures.
(enlarge or shrink) As a shortcut Dr. Milton calls such changes
'nodules'. He goes on to ask and answer the question: Do such
'nodulized; or modified brains have the capacity to change 'thought
direction' without considerable amounts of new 'content loading'.
(e.g. Rehab) If peers, parents and mentors are repeating the same
spiel or indoctrination, Dr Milton says, "It is unlikely that the
individual would be able to entertain or even 'see' an another
point of view because of physical changes in his or her brain
tissue." Free will, Positive thinking, Evolution, Immigration and
Addiction are just a few of the timely topics covered in Your
Pollyanna Brain.

Numinous Mirrors is a short book of poetry reflecting ideas that
cross the boundaries between nature and science; between
comprehensible evidence and incomprehensible magic. When the
traditional religious impressions of my youth were gradually
replaced by the distinctive facts provided by university studies of
history and science, I discovered that spirituality still resides
within the realms of curiosity and discovery. I live today in an
almost constant state of awe, wonder, and amazement -- as I
skeptically ask questions and claim answers that lead to more
questions. To live in a state of awe is spirituality. Rhetoric is
what emerges in squabbles with experts Poetry is what emerges in
quarrels with one's self These poems are an attempt to offer to
myself partial illumination, contentment and surprise to a few of
my ever-surfacing questions. Then inevitably, curiosity arrives
once again to announce additional provisional questions followed by
empirical evidence leading to still more contemplative resolutions.
Like inhaling and exhaling the cycle of science continues to
provide new life.
