Analytics for the Sharing Economy: Mathematics, Engineering and Business Perspectives (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2020): Emanuele... Analytics for the Sharing Economy: Mathematics, Engineering and Business Perspectives (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2020)
Emanuele Crisostomi, Bissan Ghaddar, Florian Hausler, Joe Naoum-Sawaya, Giovanni Russo, …
R3,659 Discovery Miles 36 590 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The book provides an encompassing overview of all aspects relating to the sharing economy paradigm in different fields of study, and shows the ongoing research efforts in filling previously identified gaps in understanding in this area. Control and optimization analytics for the sharing economy explores bespoke analytics, tools, and business models that can be used to help design collaborative consumption services (the shared economy). It provides case studies of collaborative consumption in the areas of energy and mobility. The contributors review successful examples of sharing systems, and explore the theory for designing effective and stable shared-economy models. They discuss recent innovations in and uses of shared economy models in niche areas, such as energy and mobility. Readers learn the scientific challenging issues associated with the realization of a sharing economy. Conceptual and practical matters are examined, and the state-of-the-art tools and techniques to address such applications are explained. The contributors also show readers how topical problems in engineering, such as energy consumption in power grids, or bike sharing in transportation networks, can be formulated and solved from a general collaborative consumption perspective. Since the book takes a mathematical perspective to the topic, researchers in business, computer science, optimization and control find it useful. Practitioners also use the book as a point of reference, as it explores and investigates the analytics behind economy sharing.

Electric and Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle Networks - Optimization and Control (Hardcover): Emanuele Crisostomi, Robert Shorten, Sonja... Electric and Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle Networks - Optimization and Control (Hardcover)
Emanuele Crisostomi, Robert Shorten, Sonja Studli, Fabian Wirth
R4,471 Discovery Miles 44 710 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

This book explores the behavior of networks of electric and hybrid vehicles. The topics that are covered include: energy management issues for aggregates of plug-in vehicles; the design of sharing systems to support electro-mobility; context awareness in the operation of electric and hybrid vehicles, and the role that this plays in a Smart City context; and tools to test and design massively large-scale networks of such vehicles. The book also introduces new and interesting control problems that are becoming prevalent in the EV-PHEV's context, as well as identifying some open questions. A particular focus of the book is on the opportunities afforded by networked actuation possibilities in electric and hybrid vehicles, and the role that such actuation may play in air-quality and emissions management.

A central theme in the study of dynamic systems is the modelling and control of uncertain systems. While 'uncertainty' has long been a strong motivating factor behind many techniques developed in the modelling, control, statistics and mathematics communities, the past decade, in particular, has witnessed remarkable progress in this area with the emergence of a number of powerful newmethodsforbothmodellingandcontrollinguncertaindynamicsystems. The speci?c objective of this book is to describe and review some of these exciting new approaches within a single volume. Our approach was to invite some of the leading researchers in this area to contribute to this book by submitting both tutorial papers on their speci?c area of research, and to submit more focussed research papers to document some of the latest results in the area. We feel that collecting some of the main results together in this manner is particularly important as many of the important ideas that emerged in the past decade were derived in a variety of academic disciplines. By providing both tutorial and researchpaperswehopetobeabletoprovidetheinterestedreaderwithsu?cient background to appreciate some of the main concepts from a variety of related, but nevertheless distinct ?elds, and to provide a ?avor of how these results are currently being used to cope with 'uncertainty. ' It is our sincere hope that the availability of these results within a single volume will lead to further cro- fertilization of ideas and act as a spark for further research in this important area of applied mathematics.
