The City of the Red Plague - Soviet Rule in a Baltic Town (Paperback): George Popoff The City of the Red Plague - Soviet Rule in a Baltic Town (Paperback)
George Popoff; Translated by Robin John
R1,101 Discovery Miles 11 010 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This book, originally published in English in 1932, covers the Soviet occupation of Latvia during 1919. The attempt of Moscow to set up a foreign Soviet State, extending to every sphere of public and private life is described in detail, with the aim of showing what the methods were which the soviet leaders used to carry through their system to other countries. The Latvian occupation showed what many people in Western Europe were unaware of at the time: namely that the main principle behind the Bolshevist system was brutal force.

Robin Johns, Rocky Wallace
R743 Discovery Miles 7 430 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This book simply dissects the interesting, inspiring, and sometimes lonely world of the teacher of early childhood. As the continued advancements in education across the board hint at a brighter future for our children and our society, we are troubled that some of the same practices that have prevented earlier generations of students and teachers from prospering in the classroom are still commonplace. Johns and Wallace endeavor to touch the hearts of teachers, administrators, and parents who know deep down there is still such a long way to go and who understand that the tasks assigned to teachers are sometimes overwhelming. Great classrooms have teachers who care deeply for the children entrusted to their care while great schools continually forge ahead in providing the necessary human resources, tools, training, and support in the affective domain that teachers so desperately need in order to have meaningful, fulfilling careers.

When Jeanine finally connects with film star Jamie Newkirk, the object of her obsession, will it be a dream come true? Or will she be pulled into his family's nightmare of secrets, control, and death? At age ten, preacher's daughter Jeanine fell in love with young movie star Jamie Newkirk and the character he played--Danny Summer. Jeanine believed God Himself promised Jamie would be part of her life--that he would rescue her from boring rural Georgia. But eleven years later, she's graduating college and about to settle into the dreary nine-to-five life with no word from Jamie or God. And then Jamie bursts into her life in an amazing way. There are plans to resurrect the Summer series of books and movies, and Jeanine is right in the middle of it all. Jamie seems to be falling for her, just as she'd dreamed. And yet... She never expected all the dark undercurrents. Jamie is hiding out in Georgia following the suspicious death of his former girlfriend. And isn't it odd that he found his mother dead of a supposed suicide in that same house two years before, and that both women had the same strangely-shaped burn on their bodies? And who knew there would be so many sinister characters involved in Jamie's life, and in the Summer series? There's his young co-star, Charlie--the Summer author died in an unexplained fire at his house. And Jamie's stepfather, Elliott, and uncle Richard seem to be in a vicious competition for control of the Summer series and of Jamie's life. Jamie is obviously hiding things--about his family, about the deaths of his mother and girlfriend. The media and the public have declared him guilty. Jeanine longs to prove his innocence. Unless she can, Jamie's dark secrets may shatter her dreams, her faith--and her life. Even when we mortals don't understand, God's plan is unfolding around us. Summer's Winter is an incredible mystery that teaches us to believe in that divine plan for our lives. The twists and turns in Summer's Winter kept me reading into the night...I couldn't wait to reach the end Robin Johns Grant's Summer's Winter is a heartwarming read in which good and evil collide. I loved it --Nancy Grace, HLN host and author of The Eleventh Victim and Death on the D-List Part murder mystery, part Hollywood dream-world and part thought-provoking Southern lit, Summer's Winter takes the reader on a romantic ride, filled with movie-star moments that plummet into hair-raising hairpin twists and turns. Jeanine and Jamie's relationship crackles with sparring, spirituality and suspense, leading to an ending worthy of your favorite Hollywood finale.--Elizabeth Musser, author of The Swan House and The Sweetest Thing

War is coming to the Green Realm. The Black city is filling fast with the deadly hoards that have been sent from Scotland. Boats are arriving packed with forces sent from London by Mason Knox, and they have only one thing in mind, the total destruction of York on route to Loxley. It is a time for the coming of Queens, as Runestone nears her moment of birth, yet the happy event brings great fear, as the Woodland Realm knows, the birth of a new queen to the Isle of Fae will mark the start of a brutal attack, and the war will begin to take over the land. The pressure is rising, as Robbie feels torn between defending his realm and protecting his wife during her moment of birth. The Raven is watching and waiting, as she releases her devious dark creatures into the daylight, in hope of destroying Runestone in her one moment of weakness. Heirs to the Kingdom Book four takes up the pace, and piles on the pressure from page one, as the adventure races into new realms and new challenges, with action from the start. Tears and laughter combine with the twists and turns of shock, fantasy, and adventure in what is the most gripping part of this series to date. You will not put this book down once you open the first page.

Having accepted his destiny, and left Loxley to prevent Mason Knox from stealing the crown of England, Robbie has to decided his next move. His brother Billy is now his enemy, and the true fight for the woodland realm has begun. Mason Knox has been stopped, but not defeated. Robbie and his group must return to Loxley in preparation for the backlash of the forces of those bearing the red dragon. A dark force is rising in the north, and soon they will face some of their greatest challenges, as Knox retaliates with brutal force, and events spiral out of control. With Rune, he must prepare to seek the lost sword, with no idea of where to begin looking. The pressure rises and the tension builds, as Rune's new powers appear to drain her strength, as she senses other powers moving towards them. Who is the owner of the Sword of Knowledge? Where is the lost sword of honour, and who will wield it? The silent stones guard the answers, as Loxley becomes the focus of everything. Many answers lie hidden under the veil of the coming of the age of dreams, and Robbie has yet to find them. This is the second part of the series 'Heirs to the kingdom, ' and a superb companion to book one. The story really begins, and from page one, it twists and turns with excitement, magic, and adventure. Filled with humour and some gripping moments, this is a wonderful follow up to the Bowman of Loxley.

Messiah (Paperback): Robin John Vinden Messiah (Paperback)

I read the web page about Jesus dying in Japan thinking it to be a joke; a complete fiction. It turns out that might have been premature. Using the resources of my organization, I checked out the background as outlined at the beginning of the narrative and discovered that Herai Village in Aomori actually does exist. Not only does it exist, it is locally famous for, and in some religious circles well known as, the site of an unexplained burial mound for two people who appear to have a heritage beyond that of Japan dating back two thousand years. Further examination found that the scrolls or parchments referred to in the web page also existed at one time; but their whereabouts was somewhat of a mystery. That they should be translated and then kept a secret for several decades should come as no surprise to anyone. Fearful of a Christian-like fatwa, the handful of translators agreed amongst themselves to keep the documents secret. I found the last of the translators (the other's have subsequently died) and offered him a deal. For a generous amount of money, and my promise to keep his identity absolutely secret, I have secured the translated documents for this book. The story of Jesus is acknowledged to be told on the basis of second and third (or more) generation verbal accounts put into writing decades and sometime hundreds of years after His death. The exact nature of how He lived was never recorded in His lifetime. The Son of God, as we now believe, as a man must have lived somewhere; eaten of bread somehow; and, supported Himself and His followers in some manner. As a man, He must have gained a reputation somewhere; been seen to do something that generated stories of miracles; and, been remembered by huge numbers of people in order to perpetuate His glory. This book, taken directly and un-edited from his manuscripts, breaths life into His daily life and even His death. While on earth He lived as a mortal man.
