Africa has been and continues to be a significant source of
medicinal and aromatic plants and botanicals to the world's food,
drug, herb and dietary supplement market, and in the past decade
numerous African plant materials have established a strong
international market presence. This book provides an excellent
opportunity to delve into the current and future contributions that
African plants can and will continue to make both internal to
Africa and on the global stage. This book expertly covers various
medicinal plants of African origin and the some of the latest basic
and clinical research supporting their ongoing and potential uses
in self-care and healthcare. This work also examines various issues
and trends in medicinal plants from their uses in Traditional
Medicine and ethnobotany, to our modern understanding of the plants
chemistry and pharmacognosy, natural products chemistry and
applications of medicinal plants, quality control, and models of
benefit sharing.
Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.

What kind of dynamics is a piecewise linear system able to display?
How may they generate heteroclinic chaos? How can the coexistence
of attractors be designed and characterized? Is it necessary to
have equilibrium points to generate chaotic behavior? Chaos theory
and complex systems are interesting and evolving topics whose
investigation from a theoretical and practical point of view
constantly leads to arising questions. Interesting behaviors can be
observed in self-excited attractors, hidden attractors and
non-self-excited attractors. This book presents some fundamentals of
linear system theory and recent approaches to design the three
classes of chaotic attractors in piecewise linear systems. Each
chapter presents a brief description and basic concepts to provide
an overview of linear systems theory; chaos and multistability in
integer linear systems; hidden and non-self-excited attractors; and
fractional approaches. They also provide example systems to
illustrate the concepts and design methods introduced. Some current
topics under investigation are addressed from an integer order
perspective to make the connection with the fractional order
counterpart. This textbook provides a comprehensive introduction,
methodologies, and analysis tools to study chaotic piecewise linear
systems and will be suitable for undergraduate or graduate students
interested in the field of chaos and complex dynamics.
Time domain modeling is a fascinating world which brings together
several complex phenomena and methods of essential interest to
engineers. This book is a reference guide which discusses the most
advanced time-domain modeling methods and applications in
electromagnetics and electrical engineering. The book starts by
clearly explaining why time-domain modeling may be worth doing;
then, it provides guidelines about why some choices must be made
among the principal modeling approaches and next guides the reader
through the state of the art in time domain modeling, concerning
either numerical and analytical methods, and applications. Finally,
it highlights areas for future time-domain modeling research. The
book is a collection of chapters written by leading research groups
in the fields, following a logical development set out by the
editor. Topics covered include finite element methods in time
domain with applications to low-frequency problems; transient
analysis of scattering from composite objects using late-time
stable TDIEs; the transmission-line modeling method, partial
element equivalent circuit method in time-domain; unconditionally
stable time-domain methods; time-domain linear macromodeling,
analytical techniques for transient analysis; the application of
the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) technique to lightning
studies; modeling of lightning and its interaction with overhead
conductors; transient behaviour of grounding systems; and
statistics of electromagnetic reverberation chambers and their
simulation through time domain modeling.
