Electric Vehicle Integration into Modern Power Networks provides
coverage of the challenges and opportunities posed by the
progressive integration of electric drive vehicles. Starting with a
thorough overview of the current electric vehicle and battery
state-of-the-art, this work describes dynamic software tools to
assess the impacts resulting from the electric vehicles deployment
on the steady state and dynamic operation of electricity grids,
identifies strategies to mitigate them and the possibility to
support simultaneously large-scale integration of renewable energy
sources. New business models and control management architectures,
as well as the communication infrastructure required to integrate
electric vehicles as active demand are presented. Finally,
regulatory issues of integrating electric vehicles into modern
power systems are addressed. Inspired by two courses held under the
EES-UETP umbrella in 2010 and 2011, this contributed volume
consists of nine chapters written by leading researchers and
professionals from the industry as well as academia.
The son of one of the greatest writers of our time-Nobel Prize
winner and internationally best-selling icon Gabriel Garcia
Marquez-remembers his beloved father and mother in this tender
memoir about love and loss. "I find myself remembering that my
father used to say that everyone has three lives: the public, the
private, and the secret." On a weekday morning in March 2014,
Gabriel Garcia Marquez, one of the most acclaimed writers of the
twentieth century, came down with a cold. In this intimate and
honest account on grief and death, Rodrigo Garcia not only
contemplates his father's mortality and remarkable humanity, but
also his mother's tremendous charm and tenderness. Mercedes Barcha,
Gabo's constant companion and creative muse, was one of the
foremost influences on his life and art. A Farewell to Gabo and
Mercedes is a revelatory portrait of a family coping with loss and
a rich depiction of a son's love.
The son of one of the greatest writers of our time-Nobel Prize

Marquez-remembers his beloved father and mother in this tender
memoir about love and loss. 'It enthralled and moved me.' Salman
Rushdie In March 2014, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, one of the most
acclaimed writers of the twentieth century, came down with a cold.
The woman who had been beside him for more than fifty years, his
wife Mercedes Barcha, was not hopeful; her husband, affectionately
known as "Gabo," was then nearly 87 and battling dementia. I don't
think we'll get out of this one, she told their son Rodrigo.
Hearing his mother's words, Rodrigo wondered, "Is this how the end
begins?" To make sense of events as they unfolded, he began to
write the story of Garcia Marquez's final days. The result is this
intimate and honest account that not only contemplates his father's
mortality but reveals his remarkable humanity. Both an illuminating
memoir and a heartbreaking work of reportage, A Farewell to Gabo
and Mercedes transforms this towering genius from literary creator
to protagonist, and paints a rich and revelatory portrait of a
family coping with loss. At its centre is a man at his most
vulnerable, whose wry humour shines even as his lucidity wanes.
Gabo savours affection and attention from those in his orbit, but
wrestles with what he will lose-and what is already lost.
Throughout his final journey is the charismatic Mercedes, his
constant companion and the creative muse who was one of the
foremost influences on Gabo's life and his art. Bittersweet and
insightful, surprising and powerful, A Farewell to Gabo and
Mercedes celebrates the formidable legacy of Rodrigo's parents,
offering an unprecedented look at the private family life of a
literary giant. It is at once a gift to Gabriel Garcia Marquez's
readers worldwide, and a grand tribute from a writer who knew him
well.
The State That I'm In is a collection of spoken word, poetry, and
underground lyricism. It ranges from topics such as: politics,
counter culture, travel, religion, love/loss, and other real world
experiences that leave you in a constant state of flux. The author
takes you on a journey through the wilderness of anxiety,
disillusionment, and humanism. From antiquated concerns like the
separation of church and state, to post-modern issues like global
warming, The State that I'm In illustrates how we all share the
same problems in any time period, and how we are all connected in
this macrocosmic universe. The author walks you through the inner
city blues of the urban metropolis, however, he remains optimistic
in a grave situation, and interprets every experience as positive
no matter how painful. The State That I'm In challenges the reader
to look into inner space for answers that seem overwhelming when
you feel all alone in a bleak existence.
Urban Politics: The Political Culture of Gangs is a juxtaposition
of street gang organizations and government theory and
organization. It is a civil philosophy reference book that examines
street gang behavior and culture in an unconventional way. It
assesses political phenomenon such as: social contracts, the media,
political parties, city council structures, budgeting, and other
forms of political conduct, within a street gang organization
context. Urban Politics offers a unique perspective into gang
culture that challenges the reader to view street gang
organizations from the inside with a creative slant. Urban Politics
is a fascinating, yet horrifying insight into the underground
culture of street gang organizations.
