This book analyzes the domestic relations which British men came to establish with native Indian women in early colonial Bengal. It provides a fresh look into the history of imperial expansion and colonial encounters by studying the large number of wills left by the British men who came in an official or economic capacity to India. It closely engages with these wills, considering them as unique personal records. These documents, where the men penned down details of their native mistresses, give a glimpse of what their lives, interpersonal relationships, household objects, and everyday affairs were like. The volume highlights how commonplace such non-marital cohabitation was and constructs the social history of these connections. It looks at issues of theft, violence, rape, bequeathment, and property rights which the women had to contend with, and also studies some of the early experiences of the mixed-race children who were a product of these relationships. As stories of Indian dance's renaissance span almost a full century, there has emerged a globally dispersed community of Indian dancers, scholars and audiences who are deeply committed to keeping these traditions alive and experimenting with traditional dance languages to grapple with contemporary themes and issues. Scripting Dance in Contemporary India is an edited volume that contributes to this field of Indian dance studies. The book engages with multiple dance forms of India and their representations. The contributions are eclectic, including writings by both scholars and performers who share their experiential knowledge. There are four sections in the book - section I titled, "Representations' has three chapters that deal with textual representations and illustrations of dance and dancers, and the significance of those representations in the present. Section II titled, "Histories in Process" consists of two chapters that engage with the historiographies of dance forms and suggest that histories are narratives that are continually created. In the third section, "Negotiations", the four chapters address the different ways in which dance is embedded in society, and the different ways in which the aesthetics of a form has to negotiate with social, economic and political imperatives. The final section, "Other Voices/ Other Bodies" brings voices which are outside the mainstream of dance as 'serious' art.

Among the microorganisms, the filamentous fungi, as a group, have contributed much to biotechnology particularly for the production of enzymes and antibiotics and continue to have considerable potential for further exploitation as producers of new products. Few research groups have developed fungal expression systems using specific host strains like, Aspergilus sojae, but their promoters are already under IPR protection. Availability of expression vector is a prerequisite in developing expression system and for that strong promoters are needed. There, however, are no reports on the catR promoter or its use in expression systems. Therefore, its promoter is a legitimate target for cloning and exploitation. This is the first report describing the identification of the regulatory element of catR gene in Aspergillus niger. Clarifying the specific induction or repression of the catR promoter provides the possibility for utilization of this promoter in industry. Finally, a finely controlled promoter can be used in studies of functional characterization of essential genes.
