Psychodynamic Art Therapy Practice with People on the Autistic
Spectrum offers a valuable counterbalance to the phenomenological,
cognitive and behavioural theories that currently prevail in the
wider field of practice and research. The result of a decade of
work by a group of highly experienced art therapists, this book
presents eight frank and compelling accounts of art therapy with
either adults or children with autism, supported by a discussion of
the relevant theory. The book begins with an overview of the
theoretical context and the subsequent chapters give varied
accounts of practitioners' experiences structured in a loose
developmental arc, reflecting issues that may arise in different
settings and at various stages of therapy. Each is followed by an
afterword which describes the author's reflections in the light of
their subsequent knowledge and experience. The conclusion brings
together some of the common threads arising from their encounters
and considers how these might be relevant to current and continuing
art therapy practice in the field of autism. Psychodynamic Art
Therapy Practice with People on the Autistic Spectrum is a
thoughtful consideration of where art therapy meets autism and the
particular challenges that arise in the encounter between the
autistic client and the therapist. Presenting honest reflections
arising from lived encounters and highlighting general principles
and experiences, this book aims to orient other practitioners who
work with people on the autistic spectrum, in particular art
therapists and art therapy trainees.

BOOK CLUB 'Ruth Jones is excellent on human nature and why we make
the mistakes we do. I felt for every character. Unputdownable.'
Jojo Moyes The past has a habit of tracking us down. And tripping
us up. When Kate was twenty-two, she had an intense and passionate
affair with a married man, Callum, which ended in heartbreak. Kate
thought she'd never get over it. Seventeen years later, life has
moved on - Kate, now a successful actress, is living in London,
married to Matt and mother to little Tallulah. Meanwhile Callum and
his wife Belinda are happy together, living in Edinburgh and
watching their kids grow up. The past, it would seem, is well and
truly behind them all. But then Kate meets Callum again. And they
are faced with a choice: to walk away from each other . . . or to
risk finding out what might have been. Second chances are a rare
gift in life. But that doesn't mean they should always be taken . .
. - In her unmissable debut, actress and screenwriter Ruth Jones
shows us the dangers of trying to recapture that which was once
lost and failing to realise the beauty of what we already have.

In May 2008, five temporary art events by artists Alastair
MacLennan, Maura Hazelden, Simon Whitehead, Anna Lucas and Yvonne
Buchheim, took place in public spaces in Cardigan exploring themes
of ritual, community and place. Holy Hiatus sought to examine the
ways that artists can draw audiences into different, often
unexpected experiences of place through ritual. The temporary,
mobile and in some cases, understated nature of the works meant
that the impact was often subtle, but the artworks nonetheless
created a ripple of effect for audiences, leading witnesses to
wonder what they had just seen and to what extent had they
knowingly, or unknowingly, participated in it? The book also offers
a contextual framework for the project within a field of cultural
theory that ranges from contemporary art to anthropology, sociology
and religious studies
